Essential setting information
Frontier Position
Oed sits on the edge of Federation space near Vren territory, approximately 90 light-years from Earth and at least a month away at common cruising speeds.
Planetary Recovery
Once a fertile M-class world, Oed was devastated by a comet strike. Planetary shielding and atmospheric engineering now support life while terraforming continues.
Economic Engine
Exposed mineral deposits transformed Oed into a major mining, manufacturing and trade center, attracting millions of workers, merchants and specialists.
Open Community
Citizens come from across the Federation and beyond. Aligned and non-aligned species are welcome so long as they respect the colony and keep the peace.
From survey world to planetary renaissance
Some historical records were lost during the comet strike. The timeline below reflects the best surviving account.
A habitable world is found
The USS Jerusalem surveys the Oed system and identifies Oed V as a temperate, fertile world suitable for colonization. Its proximity to Vren space delays settlement.
Construction begins after the Dominion War
Construction ships establish an outpost and the first colonial footings. Vren objections and later border raids force Starfleet to establish a garrison, spaceport and defensive presence.
A council and military governor take office
A civilian council is appointed, followed by Governor Sloane. The settlement around the spaceport grows into Arcadia, commonly called Oed City, and develops into a commercial starport.
The colony is destabilized from within
Vren spies and informants fuel unrest that becomes an uprising. Governor Sloane is murdered, Interim Governor Chegwidden is later killed, and the colony enters a difficult period of recovery.
Oed V is nearly destroyed
A rogue comet with a carbon-dioxide mantle and heavy-metal core strikes the planet. Greenhouse gases, atmospheric dust and earthquakes turn the once-fertile world into a wasteland.
Starfleet’s reinforced emergency dome saves approximately 15 square miles of Oed City, preserving the colony’s core when nearly everything beyond it becomes uninhabitable.
Mining secures the colony’s future
Geological surveys reveal enormous deposits of valuable ore exposed by the impact. Mining, orbital processing and commerce give Oed a new reason to survive and rebuild.
The colony enters a new political era
After several leadership transitions, Oed moves toward civilian government. Its population, resources and technological capabilities continue to expand.
Agriculture expands
A second dome is connected to the original settlement for food production and agricultural research, freeing additional land for housing and population growth.
The dome opens to a shielded world
Planetary shield generators and atmospheric systems create breathable conditions outside the domes. The Oed V Science and Engineering Academy is founded, and terraforming begins transforming the surface meter by meter.
The CCDA is created to defend the planet and administer customs and traffic, while Starfleet remains responsible for wider system security and exploration.

A Federation Council-appointed Governor and Lieutenant Governor lead an appointed Cabinet responsible for the colony’s day-to-day policy, growth and defense.
