OOC: Since we appear to agree, we’ll go on foot.
- Dave

IC:
The quiet hum of the shuttle bay was punctuated by the occasional chirp of diagnostic equipment as one of the engineering technicians worked methodically around the waiting shuttlecraft.

Crewman First Class Dalen crouched beneath the port nacelle access panel, running a final calibration through the shuttle’s field coils. Satisfied, he secured the panel before moving to the landing gear, tricorder in hand.

“Structural integrity field emitters are within tolerance. Inertial dampers are green across the board,” he reported to no one in particular as the results scrolled across his handheld display.

Crossing beneath the shuttle’s nose, he connected a portable power cart long enough to complete the final systems synchronization before disconnecting it moments later.

Inside the cockpit, status indicators flickered from amber to green one by one.

  • Impulse engines: Nominal
  • RCS thrusters: Nominal
  • Environmental systems: Online
  • Navigation sensors: Calibrated
  • Shields: Standing by
  • Transporter systems: Operational
  • Communications: Verified

Dalen stepped back as the shuttle’s access hatch cycled smoothly.

“Pre-flight diagnostics complete,” he called toward the gathering flight crew. “Fuel reserves are topped off, emergency rations and medical kits have been replenished, and all mission equipment requested by Engineering, Science, Security, and Medical has been secured aboard.”

He gave the shuttle an approving pat along the hull.

“She’s ready whenever the team is.”

“Not today crewman!” said Captain Glen, “We’ve decided we’ll walk instead!”

Rynak had slowly descended off a turbolift before his boots met the ground, coming to stand right next to one of the engineering officers present. His eyes seemed to illuminate when mismatched eyes landed on their vessel, tail betraying a small wag behind him. Composure remaining steady as the last calibrations were ran.

He stepped off and carefully joined the rest of the away team. Beaming with excitement almost like a little child.

“If everyone is ready,” said the Captain, “Let’s go out and meet the Shiarians!”

  • Glen, CO

Rana could say one thing absolutely. He was not ready. But this is why he had joined Starfleet. And this was his job. He looked at the captain and smiled to himself. That

and trying to keep up with the captain. ” Indeed, captain let us march fort into the unknown so that ir can become known!

With the order given, Thalos fell in behind the rest of the away team as they made their way from the bridge. The journey through the corridors was quiet, each officer mentally preparing for the mission ahead.

Reaching the airlock connecting the USS Merrimack to the docked vessel, Thalos performed one final check of his equipment. His phaser rested securely at his hip, tricorder fully charged, communicator functioning within normal parameters.

His silver eyes swept over the team one last time before they proceeded.

“Security is ready,” he reported calmly.

As the airlock cycled and the inner door slid open, Thalos waited for the Captain and senior officers to proceed before following them through. The moment he crossed onto the other vessel, his training took over.

His gaze methodically assessed the corridor ahead, noting exits, possible cover, environmental conditions, and anything that appeared out of place. His antennae subtly sampled the surrounding vibrations, alert for approaching footsteps or movements beyond normal hearing.

He remained a half-step behind the senior officers—not leading the mission, but quietly positioning himself where he could react immediately should the situation change.

For now, everything appeared calm.

Thalos intended to keep it that way.

M’Mera padded swiftly down the corridor, her soft footfalls nearly silent against the deck plating as she caught up with the rest of the away team assembling at the airlock. Her ears stood high with alert curiosity while the tip of her tail swayed in an unmistakable display of eager anticipation. Every instinct she possessed urged her forward. Opportunities like this came perhaps once in a lifetime.

As the airlock cycled open and the team stepped across into Vey’lan, the Caitian engineer paused for the briefest moment, emerald eyes widening as she took in the impossible architecture stretching before them. There were no obvious conduits, no humming power relays, no exposed maintenance panels or service accessways that any Starfleet engineer would instinctively look for. Yet every surface radiated quiet purpose, every graceful curve and seamless junction hinting at engineering principles unlike anything she had ever studied.

A delighted purr escaped her before she could suppress it.

“Hrrr… by the Ancestorrss…” she whispered under her breath, her ears flicking forward. “Thisss iss… beautifful.”

She quickly recovered her professional composure, though the excitement remained evident in the rhythmic flick of her tail. Activating her engineering tricorder, she began recording everything it could perceive—energy emissions, structural composition, harmonic frequencies, and the subtle environmental readings that had proven so elusive aboard the Merrimack. Every step brought fresh data that she hoped would finally make sense once collected directly within the city itself.

She knew the scans from orbit had raised more questions than answers. Perhaps here, standing amidst the structures themselves, the hidden mechanisms powering Vey’lan would finally reveal their secrets.

Keeping a respectful distance behind Captain Glen and Commander Rana Singh while remaining close enough to assist should any technical issue arise, M’Mera continued sweeping the corridor with her tricorder, occasionally stopping for a second or two as an unusual reading caught her attention before quietly moving on to rejoin the group.

Her ears rotated constantly, taking in every unfamiliar sound.

“Hopefully,” she murmured with another soft purr, “we’ll finally get ssome sssensssible engineering readingsss.”

Lt. M’Mera CE

“Sensible readings would be nice,” Grahams laughed, falling into step with the rest of the team. “Nothing has made sense since we got here,”

He looked around too busy wondering if this Caretaker or the Silent One was watching them from somewhere out there now, for him to take in the true wonder of where they were now.

OOC: He seems semi back, we’ll wait and see if he chimes in.

OOC: I wasn’t too sure whether it would be a good idea to have Rynak in the away team if there’s no ship, he might be of better help staying onboard.

From her place in the procession that left the Merrimack, Elyss looked around wide eyed. It was beautiful but in a way she’d never experienced beauty before. Looking down to make sure her tricorder was recording, she saw it was collecting, analyzing, and recording environmental and scientific data, along with dozens of other variables.

Seeing they weren’t taking out the shuttle, the Canidin’s ears lowered slowly. Many members to the away team seemed exited to explore beyond the confines of their ship. With their CSO keeping a tricorder hanging similarly to a crossbody bag. Within his paw there was some odd looking tool which one could only assume happened to be a hyperspanner.

His gold uniform had scorch marks from messing with different kinds of wiring; getting the dirty work nobody else enjoyed done. At first, Rynak wasn’t too sure about heather or not his abilities would be required on the field. Perhaps making himself more useful by staying onboard. A white tipped muzzle shifter just slightly before stepping back. Perhaps words wouldn’t be necessarily mentioned as to the choice which the junior grade officer had mentally already made.

By remaining with the rest of the operations department, he would be able to supervise should an emergency arise for them to evacuate. Once the landing hatch opened, he remained with the rest of the crew dressed in red. Waving goodbye and wishing a few which he knew better good luck. In a way he seemed disappointed about the preparation which the shuttle craft had taken. Looking down the hallway from which they had come into the cargo bay.

With no seeming movement yet Rana began to look around. He was more concerned with the crew at hand than anything else. Idle people tended to become people. whose sharpness became dulled after a while. And he was no different. It was then he saw Lieutenant Rynak. had showed up. ” ” Ah Lieutenant! Rana called with a small grin. Fine to finally see you. Maybe your fine company is what someone has been waiting for so that we can get going. PerhOneaps you’ll be our lucky charm.”

Rana Singh Lt.Cmdr. Number One

The young lieutenant opened his mouth to speak before closing it. He appeared to be a fish out of the water gasping for a breath. With butterfly shaped ears now lowered, Rynak sighed. Commander Singh seemed genuinely excited for him to be joining the mission, but knowing he could be proven so much more useful by remaining onboard Merrimack. How could he deny such an invitation when someone had been already expecting him with arms wide open.

Heterochromia eyes seemed to dart from one side to the other, looking for the right words without causing much disappointment. “Sir I-“ but before the Canidin could utter another word; there was an officer that interrupted his statement.
