____________________________________________ PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:

Kahu has light brown hair. He is named after his sky-blue eyes which is generally the first feature people notice about him. He also sports a nice tan/olive skin which becomes noticeably darker after he’s returned from leave. On his left arm he has a faint scar that winds up it from when he got it caught in some barbed wire as a teenager.

When Kahu is not on duty he tends to be wearing either rugby shorts or jeans and a long-sleeved shirt.

____________________________________________BACKSTORY:

Born as the third child of four, Kahu grew up on the family sheep station near Castle Downs. Growing up he lived an active lifestyle with his siblings who from an early age helped out on the farm looking after the animals and raising crops for winter. When they weren’t helping out the four siblings were constantly exploring and creating adventures for themselves. One of his favorite places to play as a child was on one of the rocky hills on the farm where he would climb to the top and look out across the landscape. It made him feel like he was on top of the world.

Outside of farm life, Kahu was very sociable and well liked in the small community. He never hesitated to help a neighbour out and excelled in team sports, particularly rugby, where him and his brothers represented their region in rugby as teenagers. Even his concussion playing rugby at 15 wasn’t enough to stop him from his love of sports. He had an exceptional talent at darts that wowed everyone at every party he went to. Despite being competitive he was known as good sport, congratulating winners and avoiding joining in fights when things became over competitive. Although quite popular with the young females Kahu never dated through his school years as he had a crush on a girl called Elle in his class but was initially too shy to tell her. Eventually he got the courage up to ask her to prom to, which she turned down as she had already been asked by another boy in his class who she later began dating for a year.

Despite being quite clever Kahu never put too much effort into his academic life, believing it to be pointless since he was going to continue the family legacy as a farmer. It wasn’t until his mid to late teens that he began to take more of an interest in academics deciding that he wanted to become a vet. This inspiration came after he assisted the local vet treating his favourite dog following an accident.

After graduating high school, Kahu, a couple of his school mates and a now single Elle all decided to go to Dunedin University together to study their various degrees. Hoping for another chance to ask his long-time crush out, he made every effort to help her with her medicine degree since both of their subjects were so similar. However, after only being there a month Elle hooked up with another guy while they were out clubbing with friends and later began dating him. One night after a day at the beach with Elle, her boyfriend and some of their new friends. Kahu went out to the bar to drink his sorrows away where he befriended a couple of Starfleet Ensigns on leave, James and Thomas, and spilled his woes about his unrequited love.

Over the few short weeks that James and Thomas were on leave, Kahu became fast friends with them. The trio just clicked and Kahu was wowed by the stories they had to tell of their adventures in space. Just before James and Thomas went to return from their shore leave, Thomas suggested that Kahu come back with them to Starfleet as a way to put some distance from him and Elle so he could hopefully finally move on. Kahu denied the offer but across the rest of that year he continuously thought about it. The freedom of striking out on his own, and partying was losing its thrill, not including the emotional torture of seeing the girl he loved with someone else.

Eventually deciding that there would be no harm in taking a look Kahu visited Starfleet academy and met with more Starfleet officers and cadets. The more stories he heard the more he was in awe. Starfleet appealed to his sense of adventure and freedom. After just two weeks Kahu decided he would change from a veterinary career to a medical one in Starfleet.

Kahu very quickly slotted into Starfleet and with his easy-going nature he quickly made lots of friends amongst the other students there and graduated with honours.

On his first posting on U.S.S Robin Kahu was taken under the wing on the CMO there and his talent for making patients feel at ease with his easy going attitude.

Personality:

Kahu is laid back and friendly it takes a lot to faze him, which makes him great in emergency or high-tension scenario as he doesn’t lose his head. He likes to keep fit and is always down for a game or some friendly competition. He especially loves rugby and keeps an old rugby ball in his office, but his adventurous spirit means he is always up to try new things. Kahu’s biggest failing is his cooking ability despite him thinking he is great at it and doesn’t understand why people never let him cook twice.

Kahu is secretly a huge lover of animals and hopes to one day get a pet of his own.
