OOC: Split off per the XO’s request.I’m imagining this takes place prior to the talk with the CO of the medical ship.
The GM previously said:
The only thing left was to determine where in Scallax the ship wanted to drop out of warp.I’m taking that as he needs some guidance from the players to set up the next part of the sim.
That’s why I started this line of thought/sim.
IC:
Ensign Shau recapped the situation. “The Scallax System just declared their independence from the Federation and we are going in to help rescue any starfleet citizens and personnel that we can. Unfortunately, a Federation Memorial-class starship named the Cinzano defected and sided with Scallax.”
MJ tapped the console and zoomed out in the star chart to show the Scallax System and surrounding space. “We want to get the lay of the land before doing anything drastic, but the Cinzano has better sensors than we do. They’ll likely pick us up the moment we jump in.”
“My original thoughts were to find a celestial body that could hide us completely, or to find and exploit a flaw in the Cinzano’s sensors.” The Risian gestured to his fellow Security Officer, Ensign Snowden. “Derek though a hybrid approach might be more viable. Finding an area in the system that could mask our presence somewhat, while also throwing an overload of information at the ,Cinzano’s sensors. The goal is to try to get lost in the chaff. While it won’t work forever, it should give us a window to get some real time data from the system and come up with a plan.”
“Think you can help with that, Skye?”
Ensign MJ Shau - Security Officer - USS Chimera
Skye’s eyes kept track about what the security officer had shown on screen. 10 different sized planets orbiting what appeared to be a massive star. Hearing that a Federation vessel had deflected by choice made the ensign’s muscles tense. That meant several citizens would be trapped on the surface.
This would be a walk in the park for the daughter of a man mostly known to spend his time studying the path home through different star charts. Their sensor numbers were limited compared to the Memorial Class vessel, meaning they would become sitting ducks if there wasn’t a way to cloak the entirety of their vessel. She listened carefully to every word that was mentioned. Most crewmembers had been debriefed prior to the mission taking place. But the hybrid had made her choice by remaining inside that biology lab analyzing some sort of virus on a Petri dish.
“Palaria should make due as a gas giant to confuse their sensors.” The scientist gestured towards the screen at the second planet orbiting that star. Large enough to hide the entirety of Chimera without leaving any traceable tracks behind. Shepherd offered a firm nod towards both security officers before getting to work at the nearest science console she could find.

Science Officer
U.S.S. Chimera - 98730 (Mjolnir Class)MJ glanced at Derek to see if he had any input, but zoomed in the star chart to focus on Palaria.
“One of the problems is, we don’t know where in the system the Cinzano has taken position. Tactically, we can guess it is somewhere central so it can scan the whole system, and somewhere close to Scallax so it can intervene if we get close.”
He didnt like it was only the 5th planet in orbit, but had to admit that the outer planets offered little to mask a ship’s signature. Plus… given its current position, Palaria is a good bit away from the other planets at the moment.
“Jumping to the far side of Palaria could work… but I imagine we’d need to get close… very close, to hide our signature.”
He waited to see if Skye or Derek had any other concerns. If not… he would recommend they brief the XO, since they formulated the bulk of the plan.

Skye offered a slow nod before focusing all sensors she could into hiding their chroniton trail. A few taps on the screen from rapid working hands. Over her shoulder, glancing at the two officers dressed in gold speaking about the other ship’s current position. Not even two seconds since her arrival and they were already discussing how to defend their vessel from that Memorial Class.
If there was even the particle trails from their nacelles, the Mjolnir Class would become an easy target. Reporting to the First Officer would be proven as the best choice to make. Take it up to senior officers leading each department. The hybrid continued looking up and down the pair of holographic screens in front of her, trying to figure out a course. But she hadn’t been trained as a stellar cartographer. Not the way her father had been.

U.S.S. Chimera - 98730 (Mjolnir Class)Ensign Snowden studied the enlarged projection of Palaria for a few moments, watching the sensor overlays shift as Skye worked.
“Close is probably the point,” he said finally.
He stepped nearer the display and traced a path along the gas giant’s outer magnetic bands.
“If the Cinzano’s expecting a direct approach toward Scallax Prime, then hiding on the far side of Palaria buys us more than cover.”
A slight tap against the console.
“It changes our angle of arrival.”
He glanced toward Shau.
“They’ll likely be watching the inner system harder than the outer edge. Especially if they expect Federation ships to move quickly toward the population centers.”
Another pause as he looked toward the science data Skye was pulling up.
“If we ride the interference from the gas giant closely enough, maybe we can mask the initial transition from warp long enough to drift into passive scans.”
Snowden frowned slightly.
“But once we move away from Palaria, they’ll probably find us eventually.”
A brief glance between the two officers.
“So we use the time to learn as much as possible before they realize we’re there.”
Then another thought occurred to him.
“And the Favereau probably shouldn’t enter the system with us immediately.”
He gestured toward the outer system boundary.
“If the Chimera gets detected early, a medical ship becomes an easy target or proof Starfleet’s preparing for a humanitarian crisis.”
A slight pause.
“We could have the Favereau hold position outside the system under communications silence until one of two things happens: either we confirm a secure extraction corridor… or things deteriorate enough that medical support outweighs the risk of exposure.”
Snowden looked back toward the display.
“That way we don’t expose both ships at once, and if the situation turns hostile, we still have a clean support asset outside the system.”Ensign Snowden, Derek
Security Officer — USS Chimera NCC-98730Ensign Shau thought for a moment, but couldn’t see any obvious holes or anything to add. He finally nodded. “Seems well thought out to me.”
He glanced over to Skye and Derek. “Since you two came up with the bulk of the, do you want to brief the XO on our recommendation? They may have another plan, one that incorporates information we dont have, but i think we came up with a viable option.”

She offered a slow head tilt forward before glancing at those dressed in gold. Her blue-gray gaze returning to the screen sprawling with data about those planets available in that solar system. Skye hadn’t offered a verbal response. But she didn’t really need to. After all, it had been their idea to cloak the ship using Palaria.
Cross-referencing the star charts, they were able to determine coordinates for a safe passage. Those being sent to higher ups awaiting patiently for an assessment.

OOC: Were you going to talk to the XO in person? Were you waiting for Derek? Or did you send them through the computer? Just trying to understand what the next step is.
IC:
MJ scrolled through the the data they had on the system, doing his best to ignore the information on the Cinzano for the time being.
He highlighted potential evacuation sites… locations with a large presence of off world Starfleet and Federation personnel. Those individuals would be the least likely to side with Scallax if they continued their separation efforts… and the most likely to suffer attacks if hostilities increased. The entire situation was ambiguous and could teeter in either direction based on the actions of the Chimera and her crew.
One of Ensign Shau’s professors had said something that seemed applicable in this situation. “If they want to talk, diplomats are the best choice. If t hey want to fight, the Marines. For everything in between, call Starfleet Security.”
It was that sentiment that drove MJ to train so hard… to make sure he was ready for whatever situation they encountered.
