The first sign wasn’t an alarm—it was a feeling.

A faint shiver ran through Sickbay as the Merrimack pushed deeper into the Expanse, the deck plates humming a half-tone lower than normal. Bio-beds compensated automatically, their inertial dampers tightening by fractional degrees, but the change was still perceptible—like a ship drawing a careful breath and holding it.

Medical displays flickered with transient static as the Expanse’s subspace interference washed across the hull. Vital readouts remained stable, yet several panels recalibrated twice before settling, their MABEL bands briefly skewing off-spectrum before snapping back into alignment. Gravity held firm, but it felt… thicker. Not heavier—just resistant, as if movement required a touch more intention.

A few patients stirred. One crewman shifted restlessly, brow creasing in his sleep as the bio-bed adjusted to a micro-variation in spacetime shear. Another reported a momentary sense of vertigo—gone almost as soon as it was noted. The EMH-less Sickbay relied on trained hands and instincts; the staff moved quietly, checking pupils, monitoring neural activity, logging the Expanse’s subtle fingerprints on living bodies.

The air carried a soft ozone tang from overworked field emitters, and somewhere beneath it all was the steady, reassuring rhythm of the ship’s heart—engines synchronized, systems compensating, life signs holding.

Whatever the Expanse was doing to space around them, Sickbay could feel it.

And it was watching just as closely in return.

OOC: Not hugely important and maybe a little geeky, but the Merrimack does not have LCARS (the graphical Library Computer Access/Retrieval System which was a computer operating system first used in TNG). We have something that is in between TOS and TNG. We have MABEL 2.0 and Windows Panorama. MABEL 1.0 was a part AI operating system (similar to the M5) fitted to the Merrimack that a little got out of control. So, we now use the second updated version. This version was also souped up after contact with the AI ENTITY from the future ship, the NX Memorial, and an alien called Q, which has resulted in us having a secret hidden Library of future-known events and facts which is password protected. For most practical purposes, MABEL 2.0 works exactly like LCARS.

Every single person seemed to have stopped what they had been doing , wondering what was going on and for a moment all eyes where on the CMO .

‘’Everybody keep calm ‘’ Cross said in a steady voice , the last thing she wanted was for medical personnel and patients to freak out ‘’The ship has entered the Expanse and into the unknown’‘.

Then she made contact with Bridge =/\ All the medical displays flickered with the transient static at the Expanse’s interference. Vital readouts remained stable, yet several panels re- calibrated twice before settling, though for now everything seem to have gone back to normal ....I’ll keep in contact =/\= her message was straightforward to let them know what happened.
