USS Chernov

Sickbay - Batario

Snip

After conferring with Sovan, Najjar walked back over to Pawl’s bed and observed him. OOC: Is Pawl conscious? Can he interact with others? Or is he in a state inside his head while communicating with the alien?

Lieutenant Mykl Najjar
Chief Medical Officer USS Chernov

Pawl believed that he was getting somewhere with the entity, as he felt a minor, distant presence of the doctor. Pawl tried to move towards the doctor’s presence. As he attempted to speak. His voice was barely a whisper. ” Doctor, I am here.” Pawl said calmly. Not leaving the entity, but was focusing on both links at the same time. As the monitors picked up on the new interaction. a slight elevation of his telepathy, but nothing dangerous. The reading stated he was pulling out of an unconscious state, but still in between those states. “I am in contact with the entity. And I am trying to give the being a better understanding of what we are, and friendly interactions continue. as Pawl fell quiet again, trying to hear any questions or a reply from the doctor. Pawl continued his dialogue with the entity in hopes that the comprehension would get better for them.

Sickbay’s monitoring systems continued their steady chorus of tones as medical personnel observed the increasingly unusual situation unfolding around Lieutenant Batario.

The humidity field remained stable.

Dr. Sovan reviewed the latest environmental analysis before responding to the earlier questions regarding the phenomenon.

“The moisture itself appears to be ordinary water vapor condensed from the surrounding atmosphere,” the Vulcan reported calmly. “However, the rate and localization of the condensation cannot be explained by any known environmental system aboard the Chernov.”

Several data windows appeared on the display.

“The trace salts remain present, though in concentrations too low to present any medical concern. More significantly, the moisture boundary remains sharply defined. The effect is confined to an approximately two-meter radius surrounding Lieutenant Batario.”

He paused briefly.

“There is no evidence of equipment malfunction, contamination, or biological secretion. The phenomenon appears directly associated with the resonance field.”

Sovan’s attention shifted to Batario’s latest readings. “The neural interaction has also evolved further. Lieutenant Batario is no longer fully unconscious.”

Medical displays reflected the change.

PATIENT STATUS: SEMI-CONSCIOUS
RESPONSIVENESS: LIMITED BUT INCREASING
NEURAL RESONANCE LINK: ACTIVE

“As evidenced by his recent verbal response,” Sovan continued, “he appears capable of maintaining awareness of both his physical surroundings and the ongoing interaction with the entity simultaneously.” The Vulcan examined another set of scans.

“Remarkably, there remains no indication of neural degradation, cognitive impairment, or psychological distress. In fact, the synchronization appears to be reducing overall neurological stress rather than increasing it.”

Nearby monitors briefly brightened again as another pulse passed through Batario’s neural patterns.

Unlike previous spikes, this one was smooth, controlled, and immediately settled back into baseline.

Then something unexpected appeared. A second pattern emerged within the resonance field. Not a surge or an intrusion but a response.

Several displays automatically highlighted the anomaly. The waveform matched neither Batario’s brain activity nor the external pulses being received from the entity outside the ship.

Instead, it appeared to form precisely between them. Like a bridge or a translation layer.

Crew members watched as the pattern repeated several times before stabilizing.

Dr. Sovan raised an eyebrow almost imperceptibly. “Interesting.”

The Vulcan enlarged the display.
“It would appear the resonance field is adapting.” His eyes moved toward Lieutenant Najjar. “My preliminary assessment is that both participants are learning to communicate more efficiently.”

Within the shared mental landscape, the blue-green figure regarded Pawl with renewed focus.

The threads of light connecting the images he had shown earlier now appeared brighter and more numerous.

The entity seemed to study the concept of community once again.

Then another thought formed and it was stronger, clearer.

“Many…”

Images of worlds followed, with stars, ships and people. Countless individuals connected by light.

The figure paused before offering another word. “Learn.”

For the first time, the impression carried curiosity rather than confusion. And beyond that curiosity was something else.

Hope.
