Mykl contemplated Sovan’s words. “Is it just Barario or are any others on the ship in danger of becoming a conduit for the entity also?” Should they try to interrupt the contact between the alien life force and their officer or should they let it play out? How would they come between Pawl and the signals anyway? Would lead blanketing work? “Sovan, what if we cut offf Batario completely from the entity? Do you think that would be detrimental or would it find another way to interact with us?”

Sovan remained focused on the streams of neurological telemetry cascading across the medical workstation, his fingers moving with measured precision as he incorporated the latest sensor data into the predictive models. The displays reflected a growing web of correlations—psionic resonance, neural synchronization, and the increasingly unusual readings centered on Lieutenant Batario.

At Lieutenant T’Sol’s observation, he inclined his head slightly.

“That conclusion is consistent with the available evidence,” he said calmly. “The entity’s interactions do not appear random. The resonance patterns demonstrate structure and adaptation. Whether the communication is deliberate or instinctive remains unclear, but there is a measurable exchange occurring.”

He brought several projections onto a nearby display for both officers to review.

When Najjar posed her questions, Sovan paused briefly before answering.

“At present, Lieutenant Batario remains the primary point of contact. However, my analysis indicates low-level resonance signatures are present throughout portions of the crew exposed to the phenomenon. None have approached his degree of synchronization.”

His eyes shifted toward the engineer’s biobed.

“Lieutenant Batario’s neural patterns are no longer simply reacting to the entity. They are adapting to it. The distinction is significant.”

Another set of simulations appeared, each showing possible outcomes.

“As for severing the connection, I cannot presently recommend such a course of action. We do not possess sufficient understanding of the mechanism involved. If the synchronization has progressed beyond a superficial level, forcibly interrupting it could result in neurological trauma, cognitive degradation, or even permanent damage.”

His expression remained characteristically composed.

“Furthermore, there is no assurance such an action would prevent further contact. If the entity is capable of establishing resonance through means we do not yet comprehend, it may simply reestablish the connection through Lieutenant Batario—or another compatible individual.”

Sovan studied the latest readings for a moment.

“My recommendation is continued observation and containment rather than intervention. Every indication suggests the entity has had multiple opportunities to cause harm. Thus far, it has chosen communication instead.”

The Vulcan folded his hands behind his back. “That behavior should not be ignored.

Once again, Mykl gave a silent ‘thank you’ to the powers that be for having a right hand like Sovan. He processed everything so quickly and arrived with helpful ideas while she was still thinking options over. “Alright, we’ll keep an eye on everyone, but I noticed a dampness in the air around Batario’s bed just a moment ago—like he was blanketed with a layer of moisture. I didn’t notice it anywhere else.” She called for the computer to run an atmospheric scan on sickbay to see if the moisture was still present.
