Najjar nodded, then looked over at Pic. “Don’t worry, I’ll be fine in a few minutes.” Her words did nothing to ease the worried lines between his brows. She stayed on the bio bed for a moment before jumping down. “It’s already easing up, Pic. You have to trust us…we’re doctors!” She smiled at her companion to let him know she was teasing, which in itself should reassure him she was on the mend.

A Ltjg entered sickbay at that moment and saw the three of them grouped together. “Excuse me, I’m really not feeling well. I’m pretty nauseus and have a terrible headache.” Mykl smiled and walked over to the junior officer.

“Not to worry, that’s a popular complaint today.” She ushered him to a bed and began a scan.

As Sovan turned to look at this newest patient, his eye was caught by the viewport.

Through the large forward observation viewport—normally a source of distant stars and reassuring black—the Veridian-73 Rift filled the view like a wound in space.

It did not resemble a nebula.

It resembled pressure.

Layers of distorted light folded over one another in translucent bands, gravimetric shears flashing in silent pulses. Veins of pale tachyon radiation flickered across its surface like electrical storms trapped behind glass. At irregular intervals, portions of the rift compressed inward, darkening to near-void before snapping back in luminous recoil.

Each pulse coincided with a subtle vibration through the hull.

Medical monitors reacted.

Sivan’s glance flew to the monitors as he studied them for a moment.

Biobed neuro-readouts showed minor spikes in stress hormones among conscious crew. Chroniton background levels—normally negligible—registered faintly above baseline, enough for the sensors to note but not yet alarm. A few instruments required recalibration as localized subspace interference rippled outward from the anomaly.

“Chriniton levels? Does that involve time?” He asked to the room at large as his eyebrow rose in surprise.

Dr. Sovan

Outside, the derelict vessel drifted at the rift’s edge — occasionally shimmering as gravimetric waves passed through it. When the distortion peaked, portions of the alien hull appeared briefly transparent, as if existing in overlapping layers of reality.

From Sickbay’s vantage, the scale was more apparent.

The rift was not simply ahead of them.

It surrounded the pocket they occupied.

Light bent unnaturally along its boundaries. Distant stars elongated and fractured. A ripple passed through the anomaly’s inner wall, slow and deliberate, like something turning in its sleep.

For a moment, the chroniton sensors ticked upward.

Then settled.

The biobeds continued their steady hum.

But outside the viewport, the Rift breathed — and with each pulse, the sense of pressure grew just a little heavier.

Sickbay remained ready.

Because if the Rift decided to exhale inward instead of out—

They would feel it here first

Leaving her patient resting on a bio bed, Mykl hurried to the large observation viewport where Sovan and Pic were standing. “What in the name of…” =/\=Najjar to Bridge. Captain, we are observing a large craft, it looks derilict. I assume what we’re seeing is the Veridian-73 rift but there is so much more happening. I think it would be wise to send someone down to witness what’s going on. From what I can see, your vantage point on the bridge isn’t nearly as good as ours. Also, our displays and computers are registering slightly increased chronitron levels and an increase in stress hormones with our patients here. The levels are nothing to worry about yet, but we’ll keep our eyes open for any changes.=/\=

A few minutes later, the tenant foster entered sick bay and said “ OK what do you need me to see from your angle?” He asked. Little interested to see what was going on.
