Deep within Engineering, the steady hum of the warp core shifted—subtle at first, then unmistakable. The normally even cadence of antimatter flow developed a low, almost sub-audible resonance as the ship’s forward sensors began to taste the rift’s influence. Power conduits thrummed along the bulkheads, their vibration just a shade sharper than standard cruise, as if the hull itself were tightening in anticipation.Structural integrity fields compensated automatically, cycling micro-adjustments along the primary frame. EPS relays flickered amber for half a heartbeat before stabilizing, rerouting power to inertial dampers that worked a little harder than usual. The Merrimack responded the way she always did—methodical, stubborn, refusing to be bullied by strange physics.
Plasma pressure rose by 0.7 percent. Not dangerous, but telling.
Engineers at their stations traded quick glances as readouts scrolled faster than normal. The warp field geometry wanted to shear, just slightly, tugged by subspace turbulence bleeding outward from the rift. Confinement held, but it was like keeping a steady grip in a rising current.
The deck plates gave off a faint, uneven vibration—not the clean thrum of warp, but something rougher, almost like distant thunder carried through metal. Somewhere forward, a diagnostic tone chirped, then silenced as the system corrected itself.
The Merrimack pressed on.
She was built for this era—thick-skinned, over-engineered, her systems analog enough to feel the strain and digital enough to adapt to it. Each kilometer closer to the rift brought more resistance, more noise in the numbers, more stress along the edges of the warp bubble.
And still she held course.
In Engineering, the ship’s heartbeat remained strong—louder now, more insistent—but steady. Whatever waited ahead, the Merrimack was meeting it the only way she knew how: engines hot, fields tight, and every bolt and conduit daring the rift to try harder.

Your Darkest NightmarePawl really had his hands full with engineering and the more complicated issues the rift was now providing. But he took it in stride. =^= “Batario to the Bridge, this is engineering. I recommend holding our position here for a moment or two so I can get things stabilized. “=^= Pawl stated calmly as his fingers danced across his console in main engineering” =^= “my teams are in the middle of trying to get things squared away fast.” =^= As pawl went quiet as he waited for a response. As he attempted to add some insulators to help with the shielding of wires and conduits.

Your Darkest Nightmare=^=Bridge to Engineering. This is the captain,=^= Kastarak said. =^=Let’s hold position. Complete your stabilization procedures. Coordinate directly with Tactical when needed.=^=
Kastarak, Cpt
Commanding Officer=^= “Engineering here Batario. Here, go ahead, Pawl sir.” =^= Pawl commented plainly as he was occupied with the adjustments. He listened as the captain spoke. =^= “Aye, sir! Thank You, Sir!” =^= focused on his repair efforts.
[[Lt ]] [[Pawl Batario]]
[[Chief_Engineer]] [[Uss_Chernov]]Coordinating with Tactical, Pawl and the Engineering team were able to make adjustments to the shield harmonics, the SIF and using the deflector dish, to bleed off any excess. It would take constant calibrations but if they kept on top of they should be able to make it through the area with little damage to the ship.
