The Rift churned with silent violence—eddies of gravimetric distortion and ribbons of subspace light that bent around nothingness. To most, it was uncharted peril. To the Vehlari Syndicate, it was a hunting ground.

Six armored figures drifted in formation, mag-grip boots clinging to fractured debris, tether-lines glinting as they reeled themselves along the Rift’s edge. Their armor shimmered in and out of visibility, adaptive camouflage bending to the Rift’s eerie glow. Recon drones spiraled ahead, vanishing in brief cloaks before reappearing with pulses of encrypted data.

Weapons hung ready. Disruptor rifles tracked arcs across the void, their coils crackling faintly in vacuum silence. Plasma blades glowed with restrained menace at their belts. Every motion spoke of discipline, precision, and a shared understanding of violence.

Then they saw it.

A shape took form in the distortion—massive, skeletal, half-formed. At first, it seemed a shadow of the Rift itself, but then the details sharpened: hull plating warped, fractured decks bleeding into subspace, and a spine of alien architecture stretching into darkness.

The derelict.

The patrol slowed, drifting into a holding pattern, their helmets angled toward the ship that should not have been there. HUD glyphs flickered in alien hues, fed by the drones’ scans. Thirty-seven percent phased, unstable. The rest… ripe for salvage.

Their leader raised a hand—armor plating shifting as the gesture froze the squad. Drones wheeled inward, relaying closer scans. The vessel was ancient, pulsing faintly with energy, yet broken in ways that whispered danger.

For a long moment, the Syndicate patrol hovered in silence, staring into the carcass suspended between dimensions. Not fear, but recognition.

In the Rift, this was no ordinary wreck. This was treasure. Or a trap.

And either way, the Vehlari would claim it.
