Finn stepped out of the briefing room and onto the CIC. He made his way over to his seat and nodded to the relief officer there, taking over command. He glanced at a few status reports to make sure there were no pressing issues and then looked over to the helm station.

“Helm, set a course for the Scallax system, Warp 7.5, and let’s get moving. Keep an eye peeled for the Favereau so we can link up with them along the way.”

He settled back into the seat and waited for the familiar shift in the ship that would indicate they had gone to warp.

Lieutenant Commander Grady - XO

“Sir,” the duty officer stated. “Station Operations has confirmed the last crew member was returned approx 20 minutes ago.”

– GM Amadeus

Hammond stepped into the C.I.C a warm cup of coffee in hand and kilo at his side. Late night calls had kept him up most the night and now the rushed deployment meant he would not likely sleep till late. “Commander,” he said.

Colonel Jaxon ‘Hawk’ Hammond
Commander 7th Marine Expeditionary Unit “Iron Valkyries” (CAG)

Sean had been at Helm for a few moments, checking status reports and getting things ready. He had work to do to prepare for the mission ahead, but he wanted to get the Chimera going first.

“Course set, commander,” Moore called out. “Departing system and engaging warp… now.” He tapped the console and the ship lurched into motion. “ETA approximately 2 days, 12 hrs, sir.” The helmsman remained at his posting for the time being, ensure the beginning steps went smoothly.

((OOC: If that timing is bad, just pretend I said something else lol ))

Lt., j.g. Sean Moore
Operations/Helm Officer, USS Chimera

Finn nodded, “Thank you Lieutenant. Feel free to see if you can shave off any of that time with magic pilot tricks or short cuts.”

Satisfied that their journey was underway he glanced over at Colonel Hammond and noticed the cup of coffee. He realized that he hadn’t yet taken the opportunity to get something for himself since he got dragged out of bed earlier in the morning. He stood and went over to one of the replicators to grab himself one. He decided on a mocha this morning to give himself a bit more comfort and then made his way over to where the Colonel was standing.

“Colonel, sorry about the early morning,” he said with a nod.

Lieutenant Commander Grady - XO

“mmm, Is what it is, I’m up early just did not get my workout in” he said with a grin. “I’ll have the knight start prepping I would like them out the gate the moment we drop out of warp, We should get a CAP up quickly” he noted he let out a sigh. “We got a lot to planning to do in the next 12hrs, the moment we drop out of warp the insurgents are gonna know we are in system. ”

Colonel Jaxon ‘Hawk’ Hammond
Commander 7th Marine Expeditionary Unit “Iron Valkyries” (CAG)

Finn nodded, “I suppose the Chimera is not exactly subtle so you’re probably right. Let me know what you need for us to do to provide support once we get there. As we get closer we can figure out a more precise location to drop to impulse, maybe there are some features in the system that would at least allow us to get a bit of a jump on them.”

Lieutenant Commander Grady- XO

He requested the system be brought up on the view board, He looked over the system for gas giants with ionized rings or other features that might shied their approach. “If we can find the right place then maybe we an get a team in unnoticed?” he asked.

Colonel Jaxon ‘Hawk’ Hammond
Commander 7th Marine Expeditionary Unit “Iron Valkyries” (CAG)

Finn stood next to the colonel and glanced at the star map. “Unnoticed is exactly what should be on the menu for this mission, I think. Of course we are going to have Favereau hanging around with us too. Maybe we can have them take up position outside the system while we go in.... or… maybe they can be a diversion to get us in there with less of a welcoming party.”

Lieutenant Commander Grady - XO

“I would say have them out till we get a better picture of what’s going on”, he shifted, “here there were a lot of reports of smuggling in this sector, long range scans will look like they are just following up and its a quick jump here” he said looking over the system data.

Colonel Jaxon ‘Hawk’ Hammond
Commander 7th Marine Expeditionary Unit “Iron Valkyries” (CAG)

Finn nodded, “That makes good sense. Hopefully we will rendez-vous with them soon and can coordinate the plan.”

He took another look at the star map and let out a small sigh. “I have to admit, this seems like it might be quite the pickle we are flying into. Separatists and hijacked star ships? When was the last time anything like this even happened? I trust that the crew is going to do what needs to be done but this is… daunting to say the least.”

Lieutenant Commander Finn Grady - XO

The Comms officer chimed in “Sir, I have a long range communication from the USS Favereau.”

– GM Amadeus

Hammond gave a small nod, “I guess the Marines are a little more prepared for things like this, thought those on this ship are pretty green. His thoughts drifted back to the dominion war and a few of the hold outs that had to be put down. “Not for a long time com…” he was interrupted by the incoming message.

Colonel Jaxon ‘Hawk’ Hammond
Commander 7th Marine Expeditionary Unit “Iron Valkyries” (CAG)

Finn turned toward the viewscreen and then addressed the Comms officer, “Put it on screen.”

As he waited for channel to open he wondered briefly what they were getting themselves into. While he didn’t know anything about the Favereau, he had great trust in the abilities of the officers aboard the Chimera and the marine officers they carried with them. Still, two starships, no matter their skill, against an unknown rebellion that seemed to have successfully taken over an entire colony system was going to be a formidable task.

Lieutenant Commander Grady - XO

Hamond waited to see what the Favereau wanted, they had barrely left port. His eyes shift to Kilo, she huffed as if she was anoyed with just sitting around, and she likely was.

Reid stepped into CIC and approached the two senior officers. “Cmdr. Grady, security is—apologies.”

He stopped mid-sentence after noticing the incoming message from the Farveau. Taking a step back, Conner waited patiently for the forthcoming conversation.

Lt. Conner Reid
Chief of Security-USS Chimera

Finn gave Lt. Reid an acknowledging nod and a ‘don’t worry about it’ smile as he waited for the comms to open. He was glad to have these two officers here in case the conversation with the Favereau turned to strategy.

Lieutenant Commander Grady - XO

A Vulcan woman of indeterminate age sat in a seat with a bulkhead behind her. From the fact that there was no expansive bridge layout, it was fairly apparent that the Favereau was a Olympic Class medical frigate. “Captain Y’lar of the USS Favereau. We have just received orders to rendevous at the Scallax system and to forward all enquiries about this matter through your vessel. Where is your Captain, my ship was administering a vaccine for the Endometric measles Canamar. I will have to abandon that mission or leave my officer’s behind to rendevous at this co-ordinates in time. Can you explain why as I am loathe to do such a thing without good reason.”

– GM Amadeus

The course had been input and the computer calculated the vectors. The only thing left was to determine where in Scallax the ship wanted to drop out of warp.

<Response>

The course and insertion point having been finalised the warp engines engaged and the stars blended into streaks of light on the view screen. The count down to arrive at Scallax had begun

OOC: Just so there’s no doubt :)

– GM Amadeus

The soft hiss of the pneumatic doors announced an arrival to the CIC just as the starfield outside elongated into the familiar, brilliant blur of warp travel.
Lieutenant Junior Grade Samuel McIntyre stepped through the threshold, a datapad held loosely in one hand. As the ship’s Chief Counselor, he wasn’t here to calibrate warp vectors or adjust tactical grids, but the sheer velocity of this morning’s deployment meant his job was already well underway. A sudden, high-stakes launch following a late-night crew recall was a recipe for baseline anxiety, and Samuel knew that monitoring the emotional climate of the command staff during a crisis was just as vital as monitoring the warp core.
He paused near the perimeter of the command well, deliberately keeping his posture relaxed and non-intrusive. He nodded quietly in greeting to Lieutenant Reid and gave a respectful, brief inclination of his head toward Commander Grady and Colonel Hammond.
The air in the room was thick with the scent of replicated coffee and the low, rhythmic hum of the Chimera’s engines pushing past Warp 7. Samuel quietly stepped off to the side, leaning back slightly against an auxiliary console. He stayed just out of the operational flow of the bridge crew, his eyes calmly scanning the room to observe how the senior staff were settling into the heavy silence that always followed the jump to warp.

Finn nodded at the counselor and turned his attention back to Captain Y’lar. “Hello there Captain, I’m Lieutenant Commander Grady, the XO of the Chimera. Captain Andreassen is elsewhere at the moment. Apologies for the interruption to your vaccination efforts but we’ve been dispatched on a pretty serious mission as well.”

He paused for a moment, considering how to navigate the situation. It was sometimes hard to tell if a Vulcan was actually irritated (or their version of that) versus asking a serious question in the most direct way possible.

“I assumed you would have been briefed on the situation in the Scallax system? Sounds like its quite the pressure cooker brewing there. I would guess potential for casualties could be high if it blows.”

“Negative, I have been told nothing. I received emergency recall orders by an encrypted tight beam communique from Star-Fleet Medical with orders to report at all possible speed to a rendezvous in the dead of night. This is most illogical, unorthodox and I want to know why.”

Lieutenant Commander Grady - XO

Hammond just stood his hands behind his back, it was clear that there were two different missions in play, he was going to have to play this carefull. He did not want to lie to the captain but he was under orders.

Ensign Shau was manning the tactical station in CIC, doing his best to prepare for this mission in the Scallax System.

One of the most obvious concerns was the capabilities of these insurgents. He pulled up the available data for any ships they had on file for Scallax. He focused on combat craft… but also any ships that could potentially be modified with weapons or heavier shields. Even weak or unconventional weapons could be deadly if they caught the Chimera unprepared.

MJ sighed, realizing that he’d been avoiding something. Slowly, but purposefully, he forced himself to pull up the specifications for the Cinzano.

The last thing he wanted to do was fight other Starfleet personnel, but the Risian knew he wouldn’t be doing his job if he didn’t help prepare the ship for that eventuality.

OOC: Trying to get specifics on the Cinzano and any other ships/classes we might expect to find in Scallax.

Ensign MJ Shau - Security Officer - USS Chimera

The read out spat out the following information

USS Cinzano NCC-358910
Long Range Battlecruiser
Memorial Class

OOC:(Memorial Class)

– GM Amadeus
USS Chimera

OOC: This is either before or after the conversation with the medical ship’s captain.

The GM previously said:

The only thing left was to determine where in Scallax the ship wanted to drop out of warp.

I’m taking that as he needs some guidance from the players to set up the next part of the sim.

IC:
Well… that certainly complicates things. MJ thought as he leaned back at his console, staring at the Cinzano’s specs.

The Memorial-class was smaller than the Mjolnir-class… but somehow it was more powerful. It was like the design philosophy of the Defiant-class was somehow upscaled into a full-sized Battlecruiser.

And its sensor range was greater than the Chimera’s too.

Ensign Shau’s original plan was to recommend the ship drop in from warp at the edge of its sensor range, and take advantage of the fact that Starfleet systems generally outstripped those of most civillian craft. That was no longer viable.

“Sir… given the presence of the Cinzano in system, its sensors will likely pick up our arrival if we drop out warp within its high resolution range. Instead, I recommend we drop in from warp well outside of her range to get the lay of the land and proceed at impusle.”

It wasn’t ideal, but Ensign Shau wanted to make sure the XO had the best information available. “Commander, I suppose we could also try masking our presence with an astronomical anamoly of some sort… but we’d probabaly need to loop in the science department to see if there is anything suitable nearby.”

Warping directly into orbit above Scallax Prime seemed inadvisable… or anywhere in system for that matter. There were just too many unknowns in MJ’s mind… they needed to clear away some of the fog of war before they attempted direct contact.

Ensign Shepherd could have been considered one of the Chimera’s newest lower deckers, most of her time had been spent researching within those biology labs. Sometimes accompanied by Nytha’rae or on her own. This would mark the beginning as to work on a bridge console, targeting sensors to the unknown. The hybrid lowered that Petri dish which she had so desperately worked on for a few days, leaving it on the counter as her communication badge came online.

“Ensign Shepherd, over.”

Her voice was careful as to not be disrespectful to a head of department or even an officer in a higher rank. Being the daughter to an ambassador and Starfleet officer, she had been taught to value Federation citizenship. Everyone could come from different planets, but that didn’t change their value as individuals, necessary to keep the ship up and running.

Letting recycled air fill her lungs, Skye immediately began walking backwards until her spine met the cold bulwark. This seemed to ground her in the moment instead of just focusing in biological samples which the Vaelari had asked for. This had been one of the first few shifts spent on her own, waiting for Zephram to be boarding as soon as the U.S.S. New Jersey could spare a shuttle of their own for transport. She was no stellar cartographer to understand the many questions which the universe had offered for them to discover, but at least the 23 year old Ensign was willing to try.

=/\=”Shepard, this is Shau at the Tactical station. We could use some scientific expertise up in CIC. It’s time sensitive, and the roster implied you were off shift and not doing anything.” MJ winced as he implied off duty activities weren’t important… but didn’t address it verbally over the comlink.

Ensign Shau was already pulling up likely celestial bodies in the Scallax system and surrounding areas, but he knew there was a lot of work to be done. More hands… and expertise… could be useful.

He tapped his comlink again. =/\=”Shau to Shaw… we need your help looking for a weakness or blind spot in the sensor suite of a Memorial-class starship. If you think you’re up for it, can you come to CIC?”
