Najma C. Moreino

Najma Chaandi Moreino comes from a well-to-do family. She has always felt suffocated by her parents so she quickly left home when she finished her basic primary education and enrolled in college in another solar system to get as far away from them as she could.

Najma’s Parents’ Background:
Her father, Boreas, a human of Spanish/Guyanese descent, grew up on Earth and came from a good family with worthy resources. As a young man, he always had a knack for entrepreneurship and got involved in the mining industry, eventually opening a “rare” gem and “precious” metal outlet on Risa. Najma’s mother, Marwe, grew up in one of the more impoverished regions on Earth in what used to be Cameroon in the United States of Africa. She was working in the mining fields when she met Najma’s father. Najma’s mother was caught stealing one of the gems she was mining and was taken to the merchant (Boreas) who was to buy the gems she had pocketed so he could decide her fate. After seeing Marwe, Boreas asked her why she would steal from him and she said”I need them to feed newborn daughter; you have plenty of these and plenty of food! What is it to you for me to take but one?”
After hearing this Boreas, internally, was no longer angry because he was not a monster. However, he said to Marwe, “You could have asked. Stealing is a grave crime. Anyone else would have ordered your hands, both of them, chopped off….or worse. What would become of your child then?”
Marwe looked Boreas in the eye and said “Would you have so willingly given it to me or would you have laughed?”
Boreas didn’t answer for a moment then countered by saying, “I would have given it to you. I am not who you think I am.” He quickly changed the subject and continued, “Although you attempted to steal from me, it was for good cause. I will pardon you and I will give you a job so you can care for your daughter. So you are to clean yourself up, come work for me and I will compensate you. Do not steal from me again. You may not be so lucky next time.”
It was the turning point for Marwe because that arrangement eventually led to a relationship, marriage, and stability for her. Najma was eventually a product of this union.

Najma’s Profile:
Najma has three siblings. She is the middle of two children born to her parents. She has an older and younger brother and Najma’s older half-sister was born to her mother before she met her father.

Appearance:
She has a deep brown smooth complexion, hazel eyes sometimes a pale green, and springy, loopy, curly just past the shoulders-length black hair, which she keeps parted on the right. According to human standards, she is beautiful, and physically fit but has an abrasive personality which offsets all her attractive features. She has not ever suffered from any major illnesses. She loves to sprint race and rock climb. Najma is smart, only because she puts effort into it. At the Academy, she discovered she enjoys engineering, cybernetics, and anything technical-related so decided to major in it at the Denebian Academy of Science on Deneb IV. After graduating she enrolled in Starfleet’s Science Academy to Study the Universe and become a scientist on one of its Star Ships. After being discharged from Starfleet she pursued a career in Journalism.

Najma’s Personality:
Najma thinks very highly of herself, so some may view her as a narcissist. She loves the males, of all kinds, but specifically prefers tall athletically built humans and the attention she gets from them. She has issues with relationship commitment and fidelity, as a result, she has had many failed relationships. She has been married once (was annulled) and engaged three other times. She does not like to be told no but will confirm if she has no choice. However not ever loyal to her partners she is very loyal to her work and tends to bury herself in it when she does not have a partner to share her time with.

Once a renowned Starfleet officer, her vanity and narcissism caught up to her and she was unhonorably discharged from Starfleet. She did face some minor charges relating to an incident on a starship, however, since she wasn’t able to meet the terms of the probation, it was revoked and she was ordered to pay a fine and attend mandatory anger management classes.
After completing these terms, Najma decided that Starfleet was a bust and turned to a new career that would better suit her personality, journalism! With her father’s money, she returned to school on Earth, majored in Interstellar Journalism and Investigations, and discovered she liked it because there were essentially no rules. She could pursue leads to big stories, harass people for information, and talk about anyone she wanted. After all, she wasn’t afraid to put people on the spot and ask hard embarrassing questions.
A few months after graduating with her new Journalism degree, she heard there were some journalists needed on Oed V, so she packed her bags and headed there, hoping the governor would grant her citizenship to the planet despite her background.
