Tovar sat at the coffee table, swirling his mocha absently in his right hand as he observed the bustling crowd around him. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafted through the air, mingling with the chatter of patrons and the soft hum of conversation. His gaze flicked to the metal table before him, where a menu lay neatly beside a recorder and a PaDD.As he waited for his new acquaintance to arrive, Tovar took a sip of his mocha, savoring the rich blend of chocolate and espresso. The recorder rested beside his PaDD, ready to capture any noteworthy moments or insights from their upcoming conversation. Despite the lively ambiance of the coffee shop, he remained focused, his mind already turning over questions and topics he hoped to discuss.

OEDNajma took a deep breath as she entered the coffee shop, her eyes scanning the room until they landed on Tovar sitting at a table, absorbed in his mocha. She approached him with purpose, her steps confident.
“Hey there,” she greeted him with a warm smile, sliding into the seat opposite him.Civilian Moreino
(Independent Reporter)Ah miss or is it Mrs Moreino?” He asked as she sat, “I’m glad you accepted my invite, care for a drink or a slice of cake I highly recommend the Danubian drizzle loaf”

OEDNajma’s smile widened as Tovar acknowledged her presence. “Just Najma is fine,” she replied, her voice smooth and confident. “And I’ll take your recommendation on the Danubian drizzle loaf, thank you.”
Taking a moment to observe him discreetly, Najma leaned forward slightly. “So, Tovar,” she began, “what’s on your mind today? I assume this isn’t just a casual meet-up over food.” She kept her tone light, masking the anticipation building within her. “What do you think about the death of Dashiel Jones? Do you think he was murdered? What are your thoughts on the OED officials’ vague answers regarding the progress of their investigation?”

(Independent Reporter)He shrugged, “There’s certainly more to it, but that’s the challenge here on OED. The government tends to operate with limited transparency. It’s clear he was murdered, but the motives remain known only to Mr. Jones and his killer. If I were to hazard a guess, it likely involves the current peace talks and trade negotiations. Perhaps an underground faction seeks to derail the process entirely. OED has a history of struggling with diplomacy, and I’m honestly surprised Starfleet continues to maintain a presence here.”
“As for why I’ve brought you into this conversation, I believe we possess a higher level of networking compared to typical journalists. By pooling our resources, we could form quite the formidable team, sharing bylines and potentially even influencing political landscapes. As Terry Pratchett so aptly said, ‘The pen is mightier than the sword if the sword is very short, and the pen is very sharp.’ Journalism holds the power to shape public opinion, influence government decisions, and guide the trajectory of nations. Together, we could wield that power effectively.”

OED
Najma’s mind raced with all the words that Tovar spoke, they certainly resonated with her own ambitions. She maintained her composed facade, nodding thoughtfully as she processed his proposal. The death of Dashiel Jones was a puzzle with missing pieces, and Tovar seemed to hold the OED government in the same regard as she did.
“You make some compelling points, Tovar,” Najma replied, her voice measured. “Collaboration could indeed yield substantial results, especially in a place like OED where information is often obscured.” She chuckled. “I have only been in the colony a few months and it is one of the first things I have realized. And your insight into the potential motives behind Jones’s murder is intriguing.”
She leaned back, crossing her arms gracefully as she thought over his proposition. Joining forces with Tovar could open doors she hadn’t even dared to knock on before. “I’m inclined to agree,” she continued, her gaze meeting his. “Pooling our resources could yield remarkable outcomes. But trust is paramount in such partnerships. Can I trust you, Tovar, to be as committed to the pursuit of truth as I am?”
She held his gaze, searching for any hint of deceit or hesitation. In the world of journalism, alliances were fragile, and betrayal could come from the most unexpected quarters. Najma had learned that lesson the hard way, and she wasn’t about to repeat her mistakes.
