Kaden noticed a message blinking on his station when he sat back down after getting back from the Science lab. He opened the message and saw all the data inside the message about the upcoming mission. He knew he needed to share this with everyone and wanted to call everyone in. He wanted to prepare some engineering pads for everyone. He then hit is comm badge and said =/\=Chief Engineering Buchanan here, all engineering staff, please report to my office in engineering. I have some data to present to everyone about the upcoming mission.=/\=
He then waited for the engineering staff to show up in his office.
Lt. Buchanan
Chief EngineerOnly a few hours had passed since Waban had first met the head of engineering. Her furry head now covered in soot as she happened to be working on a manifolds which happened to be leaking plasma. She could only close her eyes and let the digits on her hand paw to do the job. Tracing over the line itself until the damaged source could be found. Though the junior grade’s hands were still shivering. A chirp emerged from her badge before Alba even bothered in paying attention to the words.
She was about to reach for a tool left discarded on the ground before someone approached. Though the shepherd’s mind was set on fighting against that ruptured area. A group of footsteps abandoning the area as they were muffled by sliding doors had reached her attention. Alba called out without an answer to received. “Not again…” those muttered words came out of her muzzle before she could stop them. Dusting off her uniform, she used vibrations beneath her feet and the sound of loud chattering down that hall leading towards the office.

Kaden noticed that Alba has shown up. He then said as Alba walked in, “Welcome Alba. Please, take a seat.” Kaden handed the Lt a PaDD what a ton of data related to the upcoming missing. He then said as he was sitting down himself, “Please look over the PaDD and see if you have any specific questions about the data. The PaDD contains data for the following items: Engineering Annex data, Power Systems Assessment, Structural Integrity Assessment, Warp Drive Assessment, Impulse Systems Assessment, Shield Interaction Assessment, Environmental Effects Brief, Transporter Systems Brief, Computer Systems Brief, Replicator Operations Brief. I believe the mission is very critical for everyone to understand these items due to the nature of what we are going into. Please let me know if you have any questions.” He then paused to see if Alba had any questions about what she was reading. He knew it would take her a while since she would have to listen to it and not just read over it.
Lt. Buchanan
Chief EngineerThe white individual extended her arm to reach the chair’s backrest in order to take a seat. Once Alba found herself facing Lt. Buchanan, a shallow breath escaped the junior officer’s maw. Once the PADD was left over the desk’s surface, she reached for it, feeling a smooth surface which the Canidin was all too familiar with. A Federation issued PADD just like every cadet had trained with at the academy. Only there was one problem… her lack of sight. Meaning a screenreader would be proven necessary to perform all tasks assigned to her accordingly. Yet, these sectors were much too different from space stations which Lt. JG. Waban was used to. Minutes went by as the device assessed each Jeffries tube. Deck by deck. The information appeared overwhelming when being heard over audio rather than read. Triangular ears flattening ever so slightly coming as a sudden reaction.
“Understood, Sir.” Even the words coming out from her mouth were raw, concerned that she wouldn’t be prepared to reach the same performance level as a crew that had been trained with the intention of keeping an exploration vessel running. Having spent her entire Ensign period as an engineering officer to Space Station 17. “These specs are certainly more complicated than the manual that had been previously sent to my last posting,” Alba admitted with an embarrassed laugh which almost resembled choking. The whole scenario had developed to be as expected, that awkwardness when meeting a senior officer capable of outranking a task with a single flick of their hand. She had never been court martialed before, yet the opportunity remained open for anyone who dared challenge the chief of department’s commands.
Lt. JG. Alba Waban
Engineering Officer
U.S.S. Wolverine - NCC-99199 (Brazen Class MK. II)On Alba’s PADD, the screen reader came to life with a system prompt from the introductory section of the Engineering Annex…
MISSION-SPECIFIC ENGINEERING CONSIDERATION
Several Wolverine systems may produce observable characteristics inconsistent with potential civilian or non-Starfleet cover identities. Specific compatibility requirements cannot be determined until Command establishes the vessel’s operational cover.
- The Bard
The white canid listened carefully as that voice pierced through her audition, purplish-red colored eyes facing beyond the PADD’s screen. Alba had been holding the device carefully, almost as though showing fear to drop it to the ground. It wasn’t unlike the 27 year old engineer to show some nervousness the first week at this job, exploring vast regions of space nobody would have imagined. Many blind individuals had come before her, mostly human, of course. She had been one of the first, few Canidins after Rynak ch’Sorel, who had served during early exploration ages for Starfleet. Not to mention Commander LaForge, who had come to serve under Captain Picard. Her muzzle would point down on the screen, then back to where she assumed Lt. Buchanan happened to be.
The audio was long and detailed, explaining every system and crevice running vital functions beneath their feet. Each of those components was an important part to keep the ship running, along with every officer walking down her halls. Starships often spoke a different language than the one an average Federation citizen would often bother speaking. That was intended to become a starfleet engineer’s task, knowing how to listen for those troubles. Helping one another remain alive, even when all hopes seemed lost. Alba had been the light to her parent’s lives as a child. She hadn’t been treated any different than the average pup on Lupora III. Yet, a life without sight hadn’t come easy when enrolling to a widely known academy. As a teenager, Waban hadn’t been a straight A student and happened to be someone very clearly flawed. Insecurity often hidden beneath thick layers of sarcasm and snarkiness.
A small breath escaped light tinted lips once the audio faded into the background, placing her paws around the PADD in order to hand it back to Buchanan. Waban nodded her head in understanding, all those protocols weighing down on her. White paws were shivering just lightly as their conversation went on, mostly tilting her head to one side or the other to better depict the source from a specific sound. “It sounds like a grand adventure is about to begin.”
Lt. JG. Alba Waban
Engineering Officer
U.S.S. Wolverine - NCC-99199 (Brazen Class MK. II)As Buchanan received the PADD, the introductory section of the Engineering Annex closed and a mission-preparation worksheet appeared.
ENGINEERING ANNEX — PRE-MISSION PREPARATION
Command has not yet established Wolverine’s operational cover. Engineering cannot determine acceptable signature parameters until that decision is made.
Prior to departure, Engineering should identify which shipboard systems are most likely to produce observable characteristics inconsistent with a civilian or non-Starfleet identity.

All Alba could hear was the slight clatter of plastic against a wooden surface, the desk in front to both of them. Who were sitting on opposing sides. Only the light ping of a notification on the PADD’s screen had gained the young officer’s attention for white, triangular ears to face forward. No words came out from her mouth immediately in hopes the lieutenant would be explaining whatever text had shown on his device. Her eyes blinked twice in order to regain their moisture, but however little light the Canidin could see was enough to make them sting.
This made the junior grade officer lifted her arm to rub that left eye with the back of her hand, shaking her pelt immediately afterwards. Yet her attention had been caught on the human officer sitting up front. Only a year older and already the head to his own department onboard a Federation starship, this had come as something surprising to Waban. More than the wolffish looking officer would admit if at all. Yet, she had made the choice to stick her head in Jeffries Tubes from a young age. But one thing was for certain to her…without darkness, they wouldn’t be able to see the stars.

U.S.S. Wolverine - NCC-99199 (Brazen Class MK. II)Kaden forgot that Alba was unable to see. So he said, as he was stepping back to sit down, “Lt Waban, I have placed a PADD in front of you. It contains the data required for the upcoming mission. The generics mostly say this, ‘ENGINEERING ANNEX — PRE-MISSION PREPARATION** Command has not yet established Wolverine’s operational cover. Engineering cannot determine acceptable signature parameters until that decision is made. Prior to departure, Engineering should identify which shipboard systems are most likely to produce observable characteristics inconsistent with a civilian or non-Starfleet identity.’. I would like you to help determine what might be effected for this. Do you have any questions at this time?” He then waited to hear back from the young Lt.
Lt. Buchanan
Chief EngineerAlba almost immediately shook her head as she pushed the chair back from where she had been sitting just moments prior to the notification’s arrival. “None currently, sir.” She provided a reply, turning her muzzle to face him directly based on the voice’s source. A white pelted paw reaching into one of her pickers for what appeared to be some kind of earphone resting against the side of her face, almost imperceptible through layers of snow colored fur.
Without any instructions for the time being, they wouldn’t be able to prepare shipwide systems for departure. Instead needing to wait for further commands along the way.

Alba could hear the notification light up the screen, yet her lack of sight would require for someone to read the annex out logic if there wasn’t a text to speech program installed on the device both engineers had been using. She was currently standing behind the desk, her posture straight and a white cane gripped tightly amongst four digit paws.
The white Canidin was about to open her maw to protest when all of a sudden the text to speech program enabled. It took a few minutes to read the entirety of the screen Buchanan was holding in front of him, leaving her to ponder what the lieutenant’s next choice would be. She took her seat again, tail curled around her back, tail flicking up and down against the cushion.
