Jackson looked at the empty table, it was time to get this mission going and he was not looking forward to it. Fleet was not disciplined emotional when they needed to focus. At least he had other marines on board that would understand.

=^= “Colonel Quade to Senior Staff, report to the briefing room” =^= he called over ship wide.

Captain U.S.S Wolverine

Dr. Elbbirt walked into the briefing room not long after the announcement. She really didn’t want to leave Dradvia alone in sickbay, but at least the child knew most everyone there. Though emotionally she wasn’t doing well at all. That had been difficult news to give. She took a seat at the table and waited.

The Andorian had heard word that a new colonel would be coming on board, so when the announcements hit and the beckon to the briefing room came, he was ready to go. Valoru went up to Deck 1 and entered the briefing room.

“Colonel, sir,” he said, snapping to attention to the fellow marine. When dismissed, he would find a seat at the table as well.

Colonel Quade returned the salute, “Take a seat lieutenant , doctor, the others should be her shortly” he said then took a seat himself sipping a black cup of coffee. “Help yourself to the replicator” he said over the rim of his cup.

Valoru did indeed grab an espresso with sugar and then went to the table. “Doctor,” he said as a short greeting with nod. He owed the medics a visit at some point, as well as psych eval - they were on the bottom of his list, if he was honest.

Kaden looked up from his work when he heard the new commanding officer over the comms. He was a little surprised by the rank announcement. He then hit his comm badge and said =/\=Lt Buchanan here. I am on my way.=/\= He then stood up and left Engineering.

After a few moments, he arrived at the ready room on Deck 1. The Wolverine was not the largest ship so it did not take long. He straightened his uniform and then proceeded to walk in. He look at the head of the table, assuming it was the Colonel and said, “Lt Buchanan, Chief Engineer, reporting as requested. The ship is in tip top shape and ready for whatever you throw at her.” He then waited for a response from the Colonel.

Chief Engineer

Colonel Jackson looked over then engineer and smiled. “Have a seat Lieutenant” he said looking around the table. it was a solid crew most were hand picked for the ship. He scanned, the details of the mission details one last time before proceeding.

The corridor outside the briefing room was quiet—orderly, efficient, predictable. T’Pris found this agreeable.

She entered without hesitation.

The doors parted with a soft hydraulic whisper, revealing the assembled senior staff already gathered around the table. Her gaze moved once—precise, measured—taking in each officer: the Marine OIC, posture rigid even at ease; the Chief Engineer, recently seated; the Chief Medical Officer, whose expression carried the faint residual strain of recent duty. At the head of the table sat Colonel Quade.

A new command presence.

She stepped forward, hands loosely clasped behind her back, her posture straight and composed in the traditional Vulcan manner. There was no excess movement, no wasted gesture—only intent.

“Lieutenant T’Pris,” she stated evenly, her voice calm and controlled. “Chief Science Officer.”

A slight incline of her head followed—respectful, not deferential.

“I have reviewed the Wolverine’s current sensor logs and mission parameters prior to this assembly. All science systems are operating within optimal tolerances. I am prepared to provide analysis as required.”

There was a brief pause—not uncertainty, but completion.

Her eyes settled briefly on Colonel Quade, studying him in that quiet, distinctly Vulcan way—observing cadence, posture, emotional restraint. A Marine commander aboard a Starfleet vessel presented… variables.

Acceptable variables.

Without further ceremony, she moved to an open seat along the table’s left side, lowering herself with controlled precision. Her hands rested lightly against the surface, fingers steepled for a moment before relaxing.

Silently, she waited.

Attentive. Analytical. Ready.

The doors to the briefing room swooshed open to reveal Lt. Black Wolf handing his duffel bag to a crewman that had escorted him to deck 1.

Stepping into the room, he addressed the CO.

“Sorry, I’m late, Colonel. I just arrived and heard the announcement and didn’t want to miss anything. I’m Lt. Kohana Black Wolf, your new Intel Chief.”

Kohana’s gaze fell to the others gathered in the room. He nodded to each and acknowledged their presence. “Sirs, ma’ams.”

Kaden nods back to the Colonel and takes a seat at an open seat. He is curious to hear about the new mission they are going to be going on this time. This is always a surprise with the type of ship the Wolverine is. He was ready to get started.

Lt. Buchanan
Chief Engineer

T’Pris nodded in greeting to the two officers who had just entered. She really had not had much personal contact with either. But just enough to stay polite.

Kohana took a seat in the nearest empty chair at the table. He leaned forward and rested his forearms on the table, patiently waiting for the captain to begin the briefing.

Quade stood and moved toward the front of the room. “Lets get this started, shall we?”

The conference room lights aboard the USS Wolverine were dimmed slightly as the ship maintained high orbit over OED V, the colony world turning silently beneath the hull. Behind him, the wall display shifted to rotating sensor imagery of Karthos Drift, a Syndicate controlled asteroid station hidden deep within an unaligned sector beyond Federation jurisdiction. Smuggling, trafficking, narcotics, weapons, stolen technology, Karthos Drift was known inside Intelligence circles as one of the worst black markets in the quadrant. Starfleet ships entering the region openly would draw attention immediately.

“Kara Straum was operating under deep cover on Karthos Drift under the civilian identity Lena Vale,” Quade said evenly. “Thirty six hours ago she embedded a level seven panic signal inside a civilian shipping news feed routed through the station’s trade network.” A commercial article appeared on screen, harmless at first glance until a highlighted phrase blinked softly in red. “Most people would never notice it. Intelligence did.”

Quade folded his hands behind his back. “The signal translates to compromised operation, emergency extraction advised, handler at risk. Since transmitting it, Straum has vanished completely. No further contact, no scheduled dead drops, no encrypted check ins. At this time her status is unknown.”
The display shifted to a civilian image of a dark haired human male. “This is Karter Dorwin, Starfleet Intelligence operative. Deep cover assignment inside one of the trafficking networks operating through the Drift. Straum was his sole handler. No one else knows his active alias or extraction protocols. Straum intentionally compartmentalized the operation because she suspected internal compromise within Intelligence itself.”

The image of the Wolverine appeared beside the station schematics. “Which means from this point forward, we operate dark. Wolverine’s masking systems should allow us to enter the sector without advertising a Federation presence, but once we commit, we are on our own. No uniforms, no official authority, and no guarantee either operative is still uncompromised.”

Elbbirt listened quietly. “If I can access their medical records, I can program tricorders to scan and search for their biosigns. The ship’s sensors as well.”

Lt. Cmdr Rox, CMO/CNS

He thought on that a moment, “That is a good idea though the astroid belt is dense and full of dense metals which make long range scans problematic, see to it doctor” he noted. “Anyone else?”

Colonel Jackson Quade
Captain U.S.S Wolverine

T’Pris inclined her head slightly from her place at the table, fingers loosely folded before her.

“The Colonel is correct. The metallic density within the asteroid belt will scatter and attenuate conventional sensor sweeps, particularly at long range. However, that interference is not insurmountable.”

She activated a small display on the table, bringing up a rotating projection of the belt layered with shifting sensor shadows and interference bands.

“If Commander Rox can isolate the crew’s biosign frequencies from their medical records, Science can integrate those parameters into a multi-spectrum search algorithm. Rather than relying solely on broad active sweeps, we can combine passive gravimetric analysis, localized neutrino detection, and narrow-band biosign scans.”

The Vulcan adjusted the projection, highlighting several thinner corridors through the asteroid field.

“We may also compensate for the metallic interference by deploying probes or sensor buoys into the belt itself. A distributed telemetry network would allow the probes to scan locally and relay the data back to the Wolverine for composite analysis. It would be considerably more effective than attempting to penetrate the entire field from a single sensor origin.”

Her gaze moved briefly toward the Colonel.

“It would not eliminate the interference entirely, sir. But it should significantly improve our probability of detection.”
