Elijah OED Odyssey: Eli's Apartment [Ongoing]
A-Day+1 - Dropping the Ball: Elijah’s Oops Moment
Elijah left the governor’s office with a sense of unease lingering in the air around him. The weight of his impulsive offer to craft a solution to a problem, which in part he had unwittingly contributed to, hung heavily on his shoulders. As he strolled through the corridors of the governmental complex, he couldn’t shake the nagging feeling of unpreparedness that had surrounded his attempt to bridge the growing void between the civilian population and Starfleet.
His intention had been genuine—to hit the floor running and become an actively involved member of the science community; he had retired so that he could focus more on science and less on its diplomacy. However, in his earnest desire to help, he realized he might have inadvertently exacerbated tensions. The stark reality of the situation settled in, leaving Elijah wondering how he could make amends and uphold his commitment to both the Starfleet principles he had lived by for so long and the well-being of OED and the political landscape that came with it.
With every step, he contemplated his next moves. How could he maintain his authenticity and stay true to the values that led him to OED in the first place? The delicate balance between his loyalty to Starfleet and the genuine connections he sought with the civilians on OED seemed to have tipped precariously. Elijah grappled with the challenge of rectifying the unintended consequences of his actions, questioning whether his eagerness to help had inadvertently widened the gap rather than bridged it.
His thoughts lingered on Lieutenant Commander Fayth as he reflected on the encounter. Her genuine displeasure and disappointment during his entrance and subsequent exit left him perplexed, struggling to grasp the full extent of the situation. In hindsight, he acknowledged that he should have waited for his official induction to OED before exploring the science complex. The fact that his old codes still worked should have raised red flags, but his eagerness for scientific exploration, coupled with a touch of naivety, overruled caution, leading to the unexpected eruption of events.
Considering the gravity of his actions, Elijah recognized that, by standard protocol, he should likely be confined to the brig. However, he refrained from complaint, acknowledging the lack of professionalism and coherence he displayed. Even in the heat of the moment, he blurted out the first name that came to mind—Oliver Loughty. To his surprise, Lieutenant Commander Fayth revealed that he was her uncle, a revelation that caught him off guard.
As Elijah contemplated the situation, he wondered if this newfound familial connection could serve as a key to extending an olive branch. Perhaps, in bridging the gap, he could find a way to address the missteps, demonstrate his commitment to collaboration, and work towards rebuilding the trust that had been inadvertently strained, though it was never there in the first place.
Retreating to the familiarity of his apartment, Elijah clutched onto a determination to set things right. The bottle Jason had given him sat on the shelf, a silent companion in the aftermath of his blunder. Pouring himself a generous measure, he took a swig, finding a momentary solace. Jason’s gesture reminded him that, despite the awkwardness, he did have at least one friend on this uncharted journey.
In the quiet of his quarters, Elijah pondered the path ahead. He recognised that sincerity and a true commitment to understanding the needs of both Starfleet and OED were essential. The challenges seemed formidable, but armed with his genuine heart and unwavering dedication to unity and science, Elijah was resolute in navigating the complexities. With a deep breath, he turned on his computer, fingers dancing over the flat-panelled keyboard as he titled the document: Strategic Framework for Interstellar Synergy: Facilitating Collaborative Excellence and Benefit Realisation between Starfleet and OED.
Like a therapeutic exercise, Elijah believed that drafting requirements and outlining a framework for the future could help alleviate the weight of his self-loathing and attempt of course to make himself feel better another selfish act. As the document took shape, he also set a reminder to reach out to the personalities of Starfleet stationed at OED. Apologies were due, and understanding the nuances of the situation was imperative. It was time to mend burnt bridges and uncover the mysteries that seemed to elude him in this new and challenging chapter of his career.
