SUBJECT: Anomaly Recovery Operation - Designation: ” Midas Touch “

MISSION OBJECTIVE:

Locate, analyze, and contain an anomalous object classified as a “reality altering artifact” exhibiting transmutation capabilities. The anomaly is currently assessed as posing a significant threat to the stability of local space-time and the safety of civilian populations.

ANOMALY DESCRIPTION:

The anomaly, designated “Midas Touch,” appears to be of [REDACTED] origin, taking the form of a simple hammered brass ring. Intelligence suggests the artifact possesses the ability to transmute matter, specifically converting various substances into [REDACTED].

PREVIOUS ENCOUNTERS:

Dorian would have rolled his eyes had this not been the standard. He never understood why ARU-HQ redacted the reports and briefings to official ARU personnel considering locations and involved individuals were critical information for investigations.

Sat in her office, Lieutenant Ashara Mavix whistled to herself as she scanned over the briefing notes, “Why is everythin’ always so darn vague?” She said aloud, before rising and tapping her combadge, “=^= Mavix to Jackson and Lavent, report to ma office as soon as ya can! =^=”

Adam sipped a glass of red wine in his office as he read through the report, he ran his clearance through it with a half frown. He hadn’t heard any whispers from homebase regarding this Artifact which was unusual. He started compiling what intelligence reports there were available for the briefing.

I was assigned to a routine survey mission in the [REDACTED] system when we encountered the anomaly designated “Midas Touch.” Our sensors detected a faint energy signature emanating from a small, uncharted asteroid. Upon closer inspection, we discovered a humanoid figure standing on the asteroid’s surface. The figure was bathed in a golden light and appeared to be transmuting the asteroid’s rocky surface.

As we approached, the figure turned towards us and made eye contact. Its eyes glowed with an intense golden light, and I felt a sudden surge of greed wash over me. I had to have that asteroid as I was convinced that it was going to be entirely gold pressed latinum, I had to possess it all. My rational mind fought against this overwhelming desire, but it was a losing battle. I lunged towards the controls, determined to steer our ship closer to the anomaly.

Fortunately, my commanding officer was able to subdue me before I could cause any damage. We quickly retreated from the area, and I was placed under medical observation. The effects of the anomaly wore off after a few hours, but the experience left me shaken.

Agent Report 2: CLASSIFIED: EYES ONLY

Subject: Anomaly “Midas Touch” - Unexpected Manifestation

While stationed undercover at Deep Space Station K-7, I observed an unusual incident potentially linked to the “Midas Touch” anomaly. A Tellarite merchant, known for his notoriously shrewd bargaining tactics and already considerable wealth, acquired a small, ornate box from a [REDACTED] trader. The box, according to rumors circulating the station, was said to bestow “unimaginable fortune” upon its owner.

The Tellarite, initially skeptical, became increasingly obsessed with the box over the following days. He neglected his business, dismissed his usual entourage, and spent most of his time alone in his quarters, presumably with the box. His behavior grew erratic, marked by extreme paranoia and violent outbursts directed at anyone who approached him.

Approximately one week after acquiring the box, the Tellarite emerged from his quarters disheveled and mumbling about profits and wealth. He claimed to be in direct contact with a “being of immense power” that promised him dominion over the entire sector. He then attempted to seize control of the station’s central trading hub, resulting in a brief but violent standoff with station security.

During the confrontation, the Tellarite exhibited unusual strength and resilience, withstanding multiple stun blasts before finally being subdued. He was subsequently taken into custody by Starfleet authorities. The box, however, vanished during the chaos. Its current whereabouts are unknown.

This incident suggests that the “Midas Touch” anomaly may have a more complex and insidious influence than previously thought. It appears capable of corrupting the minds and ambitions of those who come into contact with it. Further investigation is urgently required to understand the full extent of its capabilities and potential threat.
