USS Chimera

Crew lounge

Lieutenant Junior Grade Samuel McIntyre waited several more seconds for a response from First Lieutenant Emberlee Atkins, but the channel remained silent except for the low hum of static. He glanced down at the blinking comm panel on his desk, then exhaled slowly and stood from his quarters aboard the USS Chimera.
The corridor outside was already alive with the quiet rhythm of the morning shift. Officers moved between duty stations with padds tucked beneath their arms while the ship’s environmental systems carried the scent of fresh coffee from the lounge several decks below.
McIntyre made his way there without hurry.
Inside the lounge, the atmosphere contrasted sharply with the tension hanging over the Scallax System assignment. Crewmen spoke in hushed conversations while stars drifted silently beyond the wide observation windows. McIntyre collected a mug of black coffee and a plate of eggs, toast, and replicated sausage before choosing a secluded table near the viewport.
He set his padd down beside the tray and activated the latest intelligence packet.
The tactical overview of the Scallax System rotated slowly above the screen — disputed mining colonies, unstable ion storms across the outer sectors, and increasing reports of unidentified vessel signatures near the border regions. Starfleet Command clearly believed the situation was escalating faster than local authorities could contain it.
McIntyre leaned back slightly, studying the report in silence.
