- their grandfather, Rafa, often read to them his favourite science fiction novels and journals to occupy them while their family slept in on the weekends, sparking their interest in science.
- they were an average student in most subjects, struggling to pay attention to what didn’t excite them, but they excelled in natural sciences (which felt almost like a puzzle).
- initially interested in paleovirology, Amparo ultimately decided to pursue medicine in the hope of facilitating the application of clinical findings and therapies by scientists like Rurthath and Shehu.
- they were billieted with a Caitian science cadet, Hrusar, during their Academy years. They slowly forged a friend(-ish-)ship that has withstood the tests of time… and Amparo’s idiosyncrasies.
- during sampling of a bog near the outskirts of the capital city for signs of an endemic virus believed responsible for an ancient plague, Amparo was exposed to a parasitic amoeba that resulted in severe illness. They cite it as the worst two weeks of their life.
- while working at Starfleet Medical, they had an young Andorian patient suffering from xenopolycynthemia who loved myths and fantastical tales, so they would often read (or recite the stories of their childhood) to her during their visits. As a surprise, they began learning Andorii to read her an Andorian tale in her native tongue, and they continue to learn in her memory.
