Ka'sora Pru'moa Daveyla

Name: She is referred to as Ka’sora alone and Zaharans have no surnames.

Physical Characteristics:

Ka’sora has warm medium-dark taupe coloured skin, medium grass coloured hair and deep set, narrow gold eyes. She has tall, slender pointed ears measuring 15 cms. The pads of her fingers and toes are slightly rough, allowing her to climb rough organic surfaces easily. Her species evolved from a type of feline and as such, she is very lithe and quick, with a thin, flexible body. However, due to a slightly lower gravity than Earth and subsequently, her light bones, her body is more fragile.

Background:

Born the night of a meteor shower, her given name means Night of the Showering Stars. Like all Zaharans, she has three names and is addressed only by the first.

Ka’sora was raised in the canopies of Daveyla but as a teenager moved to the capital city of Labriiss to pursue her desire to be a scientist. She studied sociology and anthropology with a focus on social activity in the development of scientific knowledge and the evolution of society as they gain more technology. She is very interested in the ancient tools and tech the Zaharans, and other societies used to mitigate the challenges of their environments. She delved fully into her field and ultimately received an advanced degree (equivalent to a Doctorate) and is considered a distinguished member of the science community on Zahara.

Her current interest is in the xenosociological studies of social change and development, especially as affected by technological advancements.

Her mother is a healer and her younger brother is a civil engineer who lives in Labriiss. Pru’moa adopted a rather practical stance to her childrens’ adventurous nature and let them explore often. She was not surprised when both moved to the city to pursue higher education.

With Zahara’s increased involvement with the Federation, Ka’sora expanded her knowledge of other species and attended conferences on other worlds. Between her expanded worldview and her friendship with the only other Zaharan to have lived extensively off-world amongst other species (La’kia Sata Kosiite), Ka’sora felt compelled to commit to a life in the stars and applied to the Academy under a mutual academic sponsorship program.

She has spent her training years immersed in all the different cultures around her and that has only fuelled her love of sociology. Due to her extensive academic work, she completed an accelerated officer’s program and graduated as an Ensign. The USS Manhattan is her first assignment.

Zahara and Its People:

The Zaharan are a forest dwelling species who traditionally lived in the canopies of the great forests that cover their world. They are a matriarchal people and a peaceful society. In what is known as the Great Wave of Knowledge, the Zaharans gained technological knowledge above their very simplistic ways. Though it isn’t clear how they got this knowledge, ancient texts describe meetings with the ‘Star Spirits’, their spiritual guides. In more recent times, a good many Zaharans believe that these Star Spirits were actually another species who made contact with the Zaharans and imparted their advanced knowledge to the intelligent and curious people.

With this newfound knowledge, the Zaharans built up a more advanced civilization but still clung to their forest roots, finding a balance with some choosing to live traditionally and others in the small cities. Given their connection with the world around them, they tend to favour the sciences and medicine and have become well known in their sector for their holistic healing methods and advanced scientific knowledge.

In 2366, the Federation made first contact with this warp-capable species, though the Zaharans had not explored too much past their local area, given that they only adapted the ancient knowledge about warp they were given about fifty years prior. When the Dominion War hit, there was little contact with the Zaharans, but the Federation was concerned about them being conquered. After the war was over, it was decided to try to formalize their relations. A small trade agreement was established and within a year an exchange program was set up on a trial basis. La’kia Sata Kosiitte was one of almost a hundred applicants for this program and assigned to the USS Genesis. She ultimately became an ambassador for her people, paving the way for Zaharans like Ka’sora to seek our lives far beyond their homeworld.

The Zaharans live communally and share everything willingly. Family is very important, and this includes everyone in one’s village, or kijia. Names are given based on the circumstances of the child’s birth, including time, day, season and any other details that are important. A person’s second name is their mother’s and the third is the village they hail from.

Personality:

Ka’sora is a friendly person who would consider herself an ambivert- she is energized by social interaction but needs periods of quiet alone to recharge. Deeply curious, she tries to be aware of the social mores or other cultures but would rather try to interact and risk a faux pas than hang by the sidelines. She isn’t afraid of making mistakes and welcomes opportunities to learn and grow. In her mind, every person she encounters has something to teach her.

Hobbies

Cooking, music, climbing, spelunking, swimming, sewing and weaving. Ka’sora is also a very skilled hunter.

Medical Record

Ka’sora is a very healthy member of her species, and like most Zaharans, does not get easily sick. She is at higher risk for contracting serious illnesses that her people have not yet encountered, but Starfleet Medical has done extensive testing to ensure she can be vaccinated against many of the standard illnesses Starfleet personnel may come across.

Due to her world’s lighter gravity, Ka’sora requires quarters with alterable gravity settings and has a system of relieving the fatigue and soreness that comes with extensive time in 1 G environments. Her bone density thus needs to be monitored to ensure she’s not even more at risk for breakages than she already is.

The only vaccine that was not effective on her biology was for Rigelian Fever, and thus she should avoid contact with ill individuals or visiting places where that illness is known to be active.

Due to their deep connection to their world, they must consume particular plants from there or risk deteriorating health. It has also been shown to be beneficial for Zaharans living off-world to use living walls in their dwellings to mimic their arboreal homes.

Under extreme stress, Zaharans are biologically wired to drop into a state of torpor. During this time, metabolic rate, temperature, heart rate, all were very low but just high enough to keep someone functioning and alive. The standard protocol is to allow for a natural resuming of bodily function and return to consciousness, though intervention if the situation requires it will not harm Ka’sora.

Psychological Record

In addition to her social nature, she has a high degree of self-discipline but also loves trying new things and likes to have fun. She doesn’t take herself too seriously.
