Ever's Quarters- Working from Home

Posted by Lieutenant Commander Ever Zeanar (CNS / Medical Researcher) in Ever’s Quarters- Working from Home
Life had been filled with great joy and terrible sorrow. Both measures beyond imagination and equally weighing on mind and spirit, cracking the heart twice along the same fault line. Surviving love, left empty by one meant for two, loneliness drowned by despair, silent screams, tears left fallow, yet filled with the returning ebbing of shadow memories. Sweet scents, trembling hands, softly whispered secrets, carless carefree encounters. Life held no restraints that death could not recall. What mysteries of the soul only faith abound. Birth, death, love, grief, there in lies the struggle who’s conflict could never end in glorious ascendancy. Yet Ever struggled on as if to somehow justify her existence even if only  to appease own reflexive esteem. Comfortable with light and dark to each it’s own value, settled akin to truth, peace and horror settled back to slumber, waiting for night to follow.

Time to rise mortal being, Ever thought to herself as she pushed the blanket from her bare legs. This bed seemed no more her own than any other since she had left Betazoid some decades ago. Well, two to be more accurate. While far from old, the counsellor felt heavy with age in soul, burdened by far too many hours standing in a lab, extrapolating answers that seemed just out of sight. Wiggling her toes, moving blood flow, the replicator automatically produced her favourite coffee, filling the recycled air with luscious caffeine infusion. Grabbing the mugs handle, Ever moved towards the sonic shower, taking long sips, enjoying life’s precious moments. Showers, unlike baths, were not for comfort, but function. Cardassians knew and understood the pleasure of bathing she mused as she finished cleansing and for go clothing. Today could be spent working in her quarters. Tomorrow Ever would venture to the medical department and find her private labs.

Settling in at her desk, Ever carefully unpacked her PaDDs and other various materials and neatly arranged the space for maxuim efficiency. Boxes stacked to one corner, Ever sat the empty mug back to the recycler and checked the inventory once more. Security personnel had given her a double look, but had not questioned the contents. What has inside had been well above their security levels and all in order. Curiosity was an emotion even a non telepath could have easily discerned, yet passed through without a word, like a trained Starfleet officer. If only they had known what the beautiful counsellor was researching, would they have still been curious or terrified? Ever wasn’t sure herself anymore, she thought as she flicked the screen in front of her to life, cursing the day she had meet Captain Isabell Rodriquez and all the lies and secrets that followed. Until Ever had the answers, she would be tormented and stuck in this hellish nightmare. Touching the screen, flicking up the next image, settling in for another long day, exhaling slowly and deeply, deep dark eyes melted into the screen, lost and troubled.
