Side Sim (Before Departure): Checking in with Medical

Ander’s first impressions of the Curie were not very good. The ship had been stripped pretty heavily during her time in mothballs. So much so, that she had been slated for scrapping. The crews assigned to get her ready for their mission had done a fantastic job, but the ship was quite the mess. Open panels and accessways had equipment in various states of assembly scattered everywhere. Crews with plasma welders were installing new conduit, replacing missing grav plating, and shoring up old bulkheads. Picking his way through the corridor, Ander arrived in sickbay. Half the door opened at his approach, the other half emitted a terrible shrieking noise. Ander shimmied through. Several biobeds were still wrapped in packing material. The sockets where they should have been able to connect were missing, and tangles of optical cabling hung limply from the walls. The main diagnostic bed was setup, and judging from the monitors it was functioning. Ander walked over to it and hopped up, feeling the bed shimmy uncomfortably as it took his weight. He tried rocking and felt the frame shift. Climbing down he inspected it and found that it hadn’t yet been attached to the floor. Looking around he saw an open engineering kit and grabbed a couple of the tools, completing the job himself in annoyance. They’d be lucky to leave spacedock at this rate.

Zan was just in the back working with a more primitive storage system for supplies than she was used to. She heard the doors screech to life and she held her ears for a moment before grabbing her tricorder and walking out into the main area. Her voice went into a sort of confusion as she saw him hop off the bed and almost eat said floor. At the same time was going “may I… Help you?” she smiled once she realized who it was and seemed almost relieved.
“been trying to unwrap some of it but you see how this is going.”

Ander nodded as he finished properly installing the main biobed.
“It’s like this all over the ship,” he said in frustration. He tossed the tools into the open toolkit and climbed out from under the bed, then hopped back on it once more. It was reassuringly stable. “I thought I could use a break, but there isn’t anywhere to go that’s really relaxing on this ship. So I thought I’d better get my physical out of the way. No sense in you trying to chase me down once we’re underway.” Ander’s eyes glazed over for a moment. ‘If we get underway,’ he told himself. He was beginning to wonder if they would actually make their launch schedule.
