Quade sat in his ready room staring at the star charts. The Drift was an asteroid city on the border of the Romulan Neutral Zone, between the Carraya System and Starbase 234. The three powers, Romulan, Federation, and Klingon, all came together in this region. It also sat near the route across the Neutral Zone toward the Iccobar System and the far reaches of Federation space.Quade considered the danger they were about to face, the lack of official Federation support, and what would happen if they were discovered operating in or even near the Neutral Zone. Why he had agreed to take this position was beyond him.
He stepped into the corridor and made his way to the bridge with purpose. He paused only a moment as he entered, taking in the compact bridge of the Wolverine before settling into the captain’s chair. It sat near the back of the bridge overlooking the helm, a single station positioned directly ahead. Two additional consoles flanked the helm, while two standing stations occupied the forward and aft starboard sides of the bridge.
He looked toward the helmsman. The crew had all been forced to cut their shore leave on OED V short by a day, something he intended to make up to them once this mission was behind them. First, however, they needed to depart orbital dock and proceed to the Rock to pick up his First Officer and Chief Medical Officer.
“Helm, take us out.”
Colonel Jackson Quade
Captain, U.S.S. Wolverine“Aye Captain,” the helm officer plotted the course. “Orbital platform says we are clear to disembark, Sir,” the comms officer reported. The thrusters engaged and the helmsman followed the flashing beacons out of the very busy docking station. Once clear, “Course plotted and laid in for Black Rock Station warp factor 6, Sir. Engaging,” the helm announced and pressed the controls and the ship jumped forward.

Quade watched as the reports from various stations came in. He called up the transfer orders for his new XO and CMO and began reviewing them. It took him some time to review both, as they had extensive records. The special request from Fleet on behalf of the XO was something he had not been prepared for. He was not sure that he was prepared to allow an old man and a child on a clandestine vessel that was constantly in harm’s way.The Rock was not far, and the Wolverine dropped out of warp with a flash of light. “Begin docking procedures. There will be no leave. Summon the XO and CMO. I want them on board within the hour,” he said, looking over the bridge.
Colonel Jackson Quade
Captain U.S.S WolverineA very helpful and chipper yeoman had informed Shedda when the Wolverine was 3 hours out from Black Rock. She had requested the yeoman inform Dr. Astor directly and assist him if needed.
It hadn’t taken long to get their things ready and already waiting at the docking port when the time came. Cmdr. Mal’athar hadn’t unpacked knowing she wouldn’t be staying. Shedda was always punctual. If she wasn’t, it was important. So when the Wolverine docked, and the yeoman returned, she proceeded directly to the airlock doors with her father, and Maava in her arms.

Noah was in his temporary quarters, putting the final touches on his packing when the call came in.
=/\= Acknowledged Commander, I’ll be there in just a minute =/\=
He threw a duffel bag over his shoulders and hurried off toward the airlocks.

The airlock doors opened and 4 ops officers stood waiting. “Cmdr Mal’athar, Lt Astor, welcome to the Wolverine. I am Lt Omega. Ens. Alpha, Beta, Gamma will take your things to your quarters. All four of you have been requested to follow me to the Captain’s ready room. Please follow me.”
Shedda and her father handed over their things. Melul took Maava from Shedda’s arms. He waved the Dr forward, “After you Dr. Astor,” he said and then fell into step. They were led quickly through the small ship to the bridge. Omega pressed the chime and then with a quick salute left for other duties.

Standing and checking his uniform he pushed away from his desks, moving to the door he frowned, he was not looking forward to the conversaion he was about to have. He opened the door. He looked at the two officers infront of him and the rather large man holding the child, course he knew who they were he had read the file and the brief. His eyes were stern as he looked at the officers, but as his eyes passed over the child, he winked once smiled. “You mast be Maava,” he said. “Are you thirsty?” he asked he looked at the other. Please come in and help yourself to the replicator.
He reached into his left cabinent, a small little box slid onto the top of his desk. The room was small, and crowded with three extra people it, though it did have a small siting space on the far wall and two chairs in the front of the desk.
Colonel Jackson Quade
Captain U.S.S WolverineNoah gave a polite nod to the colonel before squeezing into the office and attempting to make himself skinny next to one of the chairs. Having a marine for a commanding officer was going to be a new experience for him, but, he noted the smile as the colonel met Shedda’s child and figured it wouldn’t be all discipline and hardness here afterall.

Maava lifted her head and looked at the man, then she broke into a wide toothless smile and giggled. She waved her hand toward him, little fingers grasping at air. Melul smiled adoringly at Maava at the happy sound. “That’s a yes,” he said quietly to Quade. His deep voice rumbled softly but seemed to fill the room despite his effort. He walked in and moved into the nearest corner. He wasn’t sure why he had been requested to be here, but he wouldn’t refuse. He was obviously uncomfortable with the new experience.
“Colonel. Or do you prefer Captain?” Shedda asked the sincere question. He was entitled to the designation of Captain, but he would have worked hard for his rank as Colonel and she wanted to respect that. Shedda requested a water for both herself and her father, and a bottle of something for Maave. She handed them to her father before turning back to Quade and standing at a strict attention. Well, at least as much as she could with a glass of water in her hands. Melul’s eyes held a fierce pride as he stared at his daughter.

“Either is fine, ” he said wriglling his hand the same way Maave did and grined. “Dr Astor, welcome to the Wolverine. Do you have anyquestions for me he said motioning to the seats infont of his desk. “Drinks?” he asked know one specifically.

Melul stayed in the corner, keeping Maava occupied and not making a lot of noise. Shedda sat and started to ask for coffee and changed her mind, “Just water please.”
“Thank you, sir,” Noah replied. “I don’t think I have any questions so far. I’m excited to get down to sickbay and make sure everything is in order there as well as explore the ship. I will say this is one of the smaller vessels I’ve served on so I’m looking forward to whatever that brings.”
He smiled shyly at the other occupants in the room. This was definitely not a ship that he was going to be able to disappear on.
Dr. Astor - CMO/CNS
“What is our current mission, Sir? I wasn’t given any details. Only that I would be informed upon arrival and the transfer was immediate,” Mal’athar said getting to the core of the questions.
