David strolled down the corridor, glancing down at his PADD that held the latest reports from Security. He wasn’t overly concerned with anything he read, but as he’d set out to hold these check-ins, here he was. He stopped at the door, ringing the chime and straightening his uniform. “Commander Claire? Do you have a few minutes?”

Alita looked up at the mention of her name. She had met the first officer, but not really had much chance to engage with him yet. No time like the present.

“Yes, come right in and sit down. Would you like some scones? They’re hot.”

“Oh, yes please, that sounds wonderful,” David said, taking the offered seat. “I haven’t enjoyed scones in a while.”

“So, the reason I’m here,” he said, after a small bite of scone, “I’m just trying to meet all of the senior officers in a more informal setting and check in on all the departments. From what I’ve seen, you’ve done a phenomenal job. Any concerns you have with your department, or questions for me as the new XO?”

Alita set looking across her desk at this new first officer. She felt like she had grown a lifetime since joining them Wolverine and now there was a new person on the scene and he would have to grow a lifetime also if he was going to fit in. Questions, what questions she could ask but probably not all of them on their first meeting.

“Thank you, I pride myself on keeping this little department up and ready for just about anything. If you read any of our mission logs you know anything is just about what we get into these days. I just want to know how you intend to deal with such an interesting ship as this. Also, phaser practices and anything else I plan to put the department through is open to you to observe and be a part of. I am a firm believer in Cross training and that means command staff too. So, do you have any questions for me?”

“I’ve been on board for some time, now, so I already have a feel for the ship, but I intend to keep learning and getting suggestions from the crew - of course there’s the command hierarchy, but a ship, especially like this, doesn’t last without trust and feedback between the people on board. I’ll certainly try to be by when I can find the time - I’m not very experienced in the tactical field but I agree - cross-training is important, and for this ship, everyone should be able to defend themselves. Do you have any concerns as to the crew?”
