<snip>Yavia laughed warmly. “Yes, spice is very important. I think part of her delicate is the strength she needs of the medicinal properties tend to over power the flavorful parts. Oh! She really enjoys apple butter. I don’t suppose you could find a way to put that flavor in a tea?”
Talen gave a warm laugh, “Oh it’s very possible! Believe it or not, I’ve found it to be a common tea during the cooler seasons. Quite refreshing! I can pack you some now if you like?”
The woman smiled, “That would be wonderful. Could you also include a detailed list of exactly what is in it. She’s very careful of making sure that she doesn’t take anything with negative interactions.”
Talen replied, “Most assuredly!”
Her smile was dazzling and warm, her eyes danced too. The smile took over her whole body. “Thank you, I really appreciate the extra effort.”
Something about her body language made him smile a bit more, a warm feeling filling his mind as he turned to complete that task at hand. He wasn’t sure if the warmth reached his cheeks, though he wouldn’t surprised if it had.
“And what about yourself, hmm?” He inquired curiously.
-Talen Veyl, Ash & Petal
“Mmmm that might be more difficult. I very much enjoy all the various flavors of tea, but I find their scents and flavor are too weak for my Deltan senses. I must balance a long steep for strength against the burn of over steeping.” She shrugged elegantly, “But the more unique and unusual the more I like it.”
Yavia
Talen eyed her for a moment, trying to get a feel for the woman. Bold flavors. He already had some teas brewed very recently that might meet that quality.
“You know, I’ve been around the galaxy a bit. Learned a lot. I have some special teas that come from other worlds. And they have a bit stronger effect on the drinker. As for the taste, it’s all dependent on what you might like. I could let you sample a one or two if you like?” He proposed to her.
-Talen Veyl, Ash & Petal
“Oh I would like that very much. I’m always happy to try samples,” she smiled and leaned against the counter.
Yavia
Talen gestured to one of the tables requiring a seat to be taken low to the ground. “Please, get comfortable and I shall be right back. I have three different brews that could use some feedback perhaps.” he said with a joyful grin.
He quickly moved back behind the counter and disappeared into the back area of his shop.
Yavia moved over to the table and sank down on to the low seat. She shifted until she was comfortable and then sat. She watched him disappear with a smirk. Inhaling deeply, her sensitive nose picked up the earthy floral scents. The polish, the wood, the lacquer on the porcelain. The shop was aesthetically pleasing to the eye as well. She liked it. Not over powering, but lots of nuance.
After a few minutes, he reappeared and stepped to the table setting down a rather large tray of utensils and drink. He then sat on the opposite side of the table from Yavia, only a couple feet distant from each other. Talen offered the woman a small glass cup with intricate leaf patterns carved into the clear glass. Talen had one for himself as well. A few small wooden bowls were set upon the table, each with a unique ingredient. Along with those were also set three small pots of already brewed tea.
One was a deep, dark red with steam escaping the spout of its holder. The second was a bright orange with the scent of a sweet citrus coming from it. The third was an icy blue color with very light whisps of of the what could be the drink hovering in the air above the frost tinged pot .
Talen eventually stopped fussing over the various odds and ends. He sat down and took a deep breathe before focusing his attention on his guest once more. “I will definitely explain these teas to you, but it would be nice to get your name perhaps? I’m Talen Veyl. And you are?” he inquired as he observed her.
-Talen Veyl, Ash & Petal
Her voice was light, musical, without trying. She bowed her head, and it was so elegant it was magical. “It is a pleasure to meet you Talen Veyl. I’m Yavia Crockett. As I told your previous visitor, I’m a nurse at Sacred Heart.”
Yavia
Talen gave her a genuine smile, one reaching his eyes. Her voice was fitting for the environment the pair were surrounded by. Light and musical. And her elegance was a pleasant surprise as well. “Ah, the pleasure is mine Yavia Crockett. Please, call me Talen if you wish.”
“Thank you Talen. You may call me Yavia,” she inclined her head in a graceful show of respect.
He gestured to the few teas available at the table. “And now that we have names, shall I introduce our the teas to you? You can try them in any order you please.” he said with small humorous laugh.
She leaned forward slightly inhaling the various aromas. “By all means please introduce me.”
Gesturing to the hot red one, he said, “This here is a blend between a Betazoid Dream Infusion and a Pulsefire Tonic. It’s designed to provide a boost of energy while maintaining a sense of heightened emotional awareness. It has pulsefire berries, dreamflower petals, lunar nectar, with a white tea base. I went light on the berries as they can be quite potent. You may end up feeling more than you expected with this one.”
Interesting. She made a note to examine the teas at home to make sure there were no pulsefire berries in them. Yavia would not want to unknowingly give them to someone.
Then moving on to the orange tea, he said, “This one is called Ferengi Emberbrew. It is meant to be drank at lukewarm temperatures. It’s a bit rich for some. It has ember flowers in it, from Ferenginar of course. It also contains spiced bark, citrus, and specially made ferengi sweetener. It’s typically served to highlight particular moments, emphasizing the value of it. Sweet with spice, of course. Two very memorable tastes.”
Yavia laughed quietly. “Oh good. I thought you were going to tell me it was made with beetles. I tried them once, never want to have them again.”
Talen laughed. “Haha, no. No beetles here. Doesn’t sound very good to be fair. Doubt you’ll find them here.”
And finally, he touched on the icy blue one. “This is a special blend from Andoria. It’s cold to the touch. Crisp, icy, and slightly electric to on the tongue. It has frostleaf herb, blue citrus rind, and a special andorian glacial melt infusion. It’s designed to bring mental clarity and focus. The cold brings it in, allowing distractions to seemingly melt away.”
He opened his hands in welcome. “So, Yavia, what shall we start with hmm?”
-Talen Veyl, Ash & Petal
“Hmmmm,” the sound was melodic as she glanced over the teas. “Let’s start with the Ferengi Emberbrew. That seems a good place to start. Then the Andorian blend and finally the Dream Infusion - Pulsefire Tonic blend.”
Yavia
Talen nodded. “That’s an excellent choice.”
He leaned forward, his shirt loose a bit. “Ferengi Emberbrew,” he started as he poured each of them a small cup. “There are ferengi who use this tea as a means to honor a new agreement or business venture. It’s designed to highlight the value of the moment. All good things in moderation. Or at least, that’s what they portray. I don’t really trust the ferengi too often.”
Yavia chuckled, “Yes well I have never seen any Ferengi do anything in moderation for themselves, only for their marks.” She lifted the cup, inhaling the aroma, holding her breath with it and then slowly letting it out. Her eyes danced over the color and the cup, feeling the material and appreciating the design.
He set the pot with the orange brew aside and took a moment to look about the shop. “It’s been a slow morning. There are times I don’t see anyone until the afternoon to be fair. And that’s ok. It’s good. We’ve all got to keep going in our lives.”
His gaze soon settled on Yavia once more, his eyes appreceiating her perfect symetry and his ears soaking in the moldious sounds of her voice. “It’s a real treat to share experiences with strangers. Getting to know others is one of life’s great delights. Tell me, Yavia. Is there anything in this moment that you find particularly valuable? Now, I’m not asking for praise. I simply want to know the woman before me a bit better.” he said with a broad warm grin.
-Talen Veyl
She took a sip of the tea while he spoke. She wasn’t particularly fond of the luke warm temperature. It just seemed wrong for a tea to be bland like that. The flavor wasn’t bad, but it really wasn’t too memorable. Yavia looked around the shop, “The balance of the space. Deltan senses are very heightened and many places outside our home world tend to feel chaotic and untamed. But this space is very well balanced and appealing.”
Yavia
Talen nodded thoughtfully, taking in her response. “Heightened senses you say? Fascinating. I’m glad the space suits you well. There’s a time for chaos and intensity. In a teashop, I feel subdued allows the tea to pop.”
Yavia nodded, “Yes, all of our physical senses are much more sensitive than other species. It makes every day experiences much more intense.”
Pointing to the Emberbrew, Talen added, “What did you think of that? Not very loud tasting, especially with the mellow temperature in my opinion. The other two may have a bit more zing than this one. Can you handle taking it up a notch?” He asked with great curiosity, his eyes looking to hers as she spoke with her delightful voice.
-Talen Veyl, Ash & Petal
“Mmmmm,” her head tipped side to side. “I do not like the tepid temperature and the flavor, though good, is nothing remarkable. All things in moderation, but there seems to not be anything there.” It wasn’t a criticism, in fact she said it so pleasantly it might have been a compliment.
Yavia
Talen gave a slight chuckle. “Well, I’ve never been too keen on ferengi cuisine and drinks. Perhaps the other tease will be more in line with your tastes.”
He then reached for the ice blue pot and gently poured another cup for each of them. “This is a special andorian blend. The glacial infusion is what gives the tea a slight shock as it hits your tongue. And it’s very cold. Do not worry though. No risk of frostbite!” he ended on a chuckle.
The drink was a vibrant icy blue. There was a hint of fuity flavor to it, giving it a particular andorian sweetness to it.
It was cold and sent shivers down her spine and made goose bumps pebble her skin. It was just what was needed on the more barren areas of Oed. The work was hot out in the never ending sun. “This is very good. The fruit…” she took another sip, eyes closed focusing on the flavor, “4 different fruits?”
After taking a sip, he added, “The cold is meant to create focus, leaving distractions to fall to the wayside.” He blew a slight breathe out, allowing the chill to be seen in the air.
For Talen, the rest of the shop was just the edge of everything in the moment. His eyes focused in on Yavia, curiosity catching him off guard. “I am curious, besides your job, what keeps you here on Oed?” he asked. “And please, if you feel like asking any questions, be my guest.”
-Talen Veyl, Ash & Petal
“Family, friends, community. I love Oed. I’ve lived many places, but this is the only one that ever made me want to stay. I love everything about this colony.” She took another sip and the cold made her shiver again. “Delightful,” she hummed. “Why did you come to Oed Talen? It’s very out of the way.”
