Yavia had laughed non-stop at Sharah that morning. She had no idea what to wear for work. She’d always worn her Star Fleet uniform. What did a doctor wear when working but not on duty? When she was actually at the hospital she would wear scrubs, but she was meeting with people today and Yavia decided she needed to look like she controlled a board room. Sharah had no idea how to do that. Yavia said the outfit would do it for her.

Dr. Fayth, DoMSS

Sharah arrived early at the government tower, stepping through the security and orientation and getting her credentials. It was all amusing to her, since she’d had access before, but it was different now. She enjoyed every moment of it. It all went rather smoothly, and she had to wonder if Charles had something to do with that. She fiddled with the ring on her finger as the lift took her all the way to the top floor and Governor Hyrushi’s office.

Stepping off the lift she walked over to Dorma’s desk. “Good morning Ms. Fen. I have an appointment with Governor Hyrushi this morning. I’m a bit early.”

Dr. Fayth, DoMSS

Dorms smiled and said ” Ah, yes. Director Fayth, always good to see you.” and she gave Sharah a small laugh. ” The Governor is expecting you. Please go on in.” and she tapped her desk and the large doors swung in and open.

Dorma Fen, Governor’s Aide

“Thank you Ms. Fen,” Sharah grinned trying to contain the bounce in her step.

As Fayth entered, Hyrushi stood and clasped his hands behind his back. “Good morning, Director. I trust you are well today. Please, do be seated.” and he gestured to a chair in front of his desk.

Hyrushi, Governor

Sharah walked into the office. It was no different than the last time she was here, but everything was different. Now more intimately familiar with Kenzo’s own gifts, she had a tight empathic reign on her own emotions. However, for a man as observant as Kenzo B’tren-Hyrushi, it was easy to see the joy and excitement in her. A noted change from the quiet lost nearly defeated she had been when they first met. “Good morning, Governor. I am quite well, and how are you this morning?” she asked as she took a seat he indicated.

Dr. Fayth, DoMSS

“I am alive and working… much to the consternation of more than a few, I assume.” the governor replied dryly. “Do be seated, Director. And tell me what we are discussing today.”

Hyrushi, Governor

Sharah sat and glanced at her PaDD. “I would like to know what you need from me. I know what I see, having been in Sacred Heart, but as a whole, outside of the hospital what does the colony need from my department?”

Dr. Fayth, DoMSS

“Presence, Doctor.” Hyrushi said. ” The people need to know that you are there. That there are options available to them- especially with regards to mental health and social services.” He stood up and turned to face the window, hands clasped behind his back. “We have an issue on Oed that makes me uncomfortable.” He was silent a moment and then said “We have an larger than average population of orphaned children. This distresses me because I do not know why that is. But I think a part of the issue may be that we have failed to provide the social programs necessary to help parents raise their children. And I want to see that investigated and addressed.”

Hyrushi, Governor

Fayth nodded. “I’ll make sure it happens. I’ll reach out to Director Enger to see about getting information into the hands of more parents.” She thought a moment. “And I know the perfect person to look into it. I’ll reach out to Commissioner Karlson as well. To see if his department can get me some statistics on situations involving families with children and orphans.” She was making notes on her PaDD. “I’ll look into what is being done directly for these children as well. Adoption, foster care, training.”

Dr. Fayth, DoMSS

“And make sure that we are providing more than adequate care for those children.” Hyrushi said flatly. ” I will not tolerate anyone having cause to criticize how we care for our most vulnerable. Housing, medical care, education, vocational training, adoption services with thorough vetting of prospective parents… I want all Directors with any input working together to make Oed V the pinnacle of social support for our citizens.”

Sharah nodded as she took taking notes. She couldn’t help but smile. Not out of amusement but pride. Pride in the colony that she had chosen to call home, pride in her friend and the man he was, and for one of the few times in her life, pride in herself. That he had chosen her to take on this role because he believed she could do it. “I’ll reach out to all of them and get their input. Then once we’ve looked into the current conditions, I’ll schedule a meeting with everyone involved.” She’d have Arno pull medical records and she would search the current social services records to see what was there. “Will a week be alright? I want to make sure we have a solid basis for where we are.”
