After he finished his conversation with Karilan, Raf sat at the comm unit and stared at the link he had inputted. All he had to do was hit the key to activate the signal. He wasn’t quite sure why he was hesitating, except that he was on a new world, with his past more than likely to be made a point of an investigation he had nothing to do wth other than knowing the man that had died. He needed to take steps, he knew that. But this was harder than he thought it would be.

Taking a deep breath, Torres put in a call to Dr. Sharah Fayth, trusting Karilan that this was a good idea.

Rafael Torres, Resident

When Fayth was in her office to do so, she answered her comms, no matter what she was doing. She wasn’t always in her office though. Torres lucked out that she happened to be where she could accept the call. The screen flashed to life on the image of a very beautiful woman with gorgeous black hair with an abundance of curls, obsidian eyes and a kind expression that put people at ease. She was wearing a blue Star Fleet uniform with the violet lab coat of Sacred Heart Hospital over it. “This is Dr. Fayth. How can I help you?”

Lt. Cmdr. Fayth, SFCMO

“Ummm, hi. I…” Raf took a breath. “Sorry. I’m Rafael Torres. Karilan Massat said I should call you and inquire about some services. Umm, for addiction support. Maybe also a counsellor or something. I uh…” He looked away and shook his head. What was he doing? But he trusted Karilan and so Raf looked back and sighed. “I’m just having a hard time. A friend of mine just died and Mx. Massat you were the best person to call given some complications with my situation.”

Rafael Torres, Resident

“I am sorry for your loss, Mr. Torres,” the woman began. “Mx. Massat is correct. I can help you with those things. It would be more confidential to discuss this in person. Would you be willing to come to the hospital to speak with me? Or would you prefer somewhere more neutral?”

Lt. Cmdr. Fayth, SFCMO

On the surface, it was a practical question, but for Raf it was far more of an emotional one. He wasn’t keen on being at a hospital, given his experiences, but then reality came into play as well. Being elsewhere in public would be possibly worse, but his concerns there were leaning towards paranoia. He just didn’t want to create problem for the doctor and he wasn’t interested in people tracking his movements, even if they would undoubtedly be doing so anyway if his name had come up at all. He assumed it would, just as Karilan predicted.

Torres sighed. “The hospital will be fine. When would work for you?”

He could hear her tapping on her console, “I have time today at 1300 or tomorrow at 1045, 1700, or I can look later in the week.”

Lt. Cmdr. Fayth, SFCMO

This was a strangely easy decision. “Today. I know from experience that if I put it off I will likely not make to the appointment.” He shrugged. It was the reality of his addiction and he understood it a lot better than before. It made him even more grateful he had listened to his instinct and stayed here at the Quill last night.

“I will see you then, Mr. Torres. I will wait for you in the main lobby. Everything will be alright, I assure you. If you feel you are in trouble between now and then, contact me at this signal. Alright?”

He gave a silent nod.

“I will see you soon.” The doctor closed the comm link.

Raf sat there for a moment and steadied himself before he went and found Karilan, updating them on the plan.

Later that day, Torres arrived at the hospital, trying to steady his nerves. He was dressed in simple khakis and a casual pinstriped blue top, but he knew even dressed as he was, odd behaviour might be a flag and he didn’t want his nerves getting him into trouble.

Thankfully, he spotted the raven haired woman and approached. “Doctor,” he greeted with a nod.

She smiled warmly. Being around her seemed to make everything calm. “Mr. Torres. Please, this way.” She led the way to a lift and they went up to the third floor and past a lobby and into a very comfortable room with chairs and a couch. “We have a replicator or I can order from the cafeteria if you would like something.”

Lt. Cmdr. Fayth, SFCMO

He shook his head. “No, I’m okay. I ate at work. But thanks,” he said, taking a seat in one of the chairs. Raf braced his elbows on her thighs and rubbed his hands back and forth. “And uh, thanks again for meeting with me. It’s a bit weird meeting with a Starfleet officer, truth be told, but I think I understand Karilan’s reasoning.”
