The students responded with polite murmurs of greeting, their faces reflecting a mix of excitement and apprehension. Some shuffled in their seats, adjusting their PaDDs and other devices, while others leaned forward with rapt attention, eager to begin.

Elijah’s eyes twinkled with appreciation for the thoughtful question. “Ah, cultural identity,” he began, his voice tinged with enthusiasm. “It’s a fascinating aspect of social dynamics, isn’t it? “Dr. Mercer, how do economic factors influence interstellar trade agreements?” asked Thyr, an Andorian student, his antennae twitching with anticipation.

Elijah nodded, acknowledging the question. “Ah, economics,” he mused, “a driving force in interstellar relations. Economic factors, such as supply and demand, resource allocation, and currency exchange rates, play a significant role in shaping trade agreements between different species. Understanding these factors is essential for fostering mutually beneficial relationships.”

As the students filed out at the end of the last class, there was a lone figure sitting in near the back, having blended in before, but was now clearly Director Enger.

As the last student departed, Elijah finally noticed the Director’s absence but couldn’t suppress a smile. “Director Enger, my apologies for not meeting with you earlier. I intended to seek you out before today’s session, but in your absence one of the other permanent instructors kindly offered to give me a brief orientation instead, I am aware you’re very busy so I am thankful that you decided to take the time to sit in on my first session. Additionally, some unexpected tasks cropped up outside of my teaching responsibilities, leaving me short on time. I was actually on my way to your office when you graciously beat me to it,” he explained apologetically.

“No need to apologize. We are a team here, that’s why Dr. Poval filled in for the orientation. I always try to attend a class the first week.” She stood and walked toward him. “So what are your impressions of your class?”

“They are all eager to learn, some more than others but the average quality is much higher than other institutes I have known, there are certainly future entrepreneurs, politicians and Starfleet officers here not that is all in the world to achieve, OED would do well to initiate some form of work placement to offer students the opportunity to move into roles within the government here if one does not exist, it could accelerate them greatly,” Elijah replied.
