“ I believe a break is a wise suggestion, Captain,” Elijah remarked, his eyes betraying the pain he carried within.

Standing up, Elijah found himself restricted in where he could travel, so he remained in the room and began to observe the plaques adorning the walls. As he reflected on the conversation, the Lieutenant Commander’s comments about research stung. After all, he had extensively researched OED’s history before deciding to move here, the history and the declaration made by OED in the federation council. It wasn’t exactly a vacation destination, so his motives were clear.

What troubled him most was how someone could claim to research the things that weren’t public knowledge. Even Lieutenant Commander Keen, an active member of Starfleet seemed perplexed by the situation, and Captain McBride alluded to the fact that it was with the upper echelons of goverment. Once again, Elijah found himself amidst assumptions and hostility, though from one particular officer. However, he was heartened to see that the rest of the group seemed more willing to engage in a productive conversation. In thought he continued to look at the walls.

Tannenn had walked out soon after Sharah and Nia but she paused after a few paces and turned around and walked back into the room, she walked over to Professor Mercer and spoke softly, “There’s a section that is open to anyone, I was going to go there for the view. Would you care to join me?”

Lost in deep thought, Elijah was interrupted by the Lieutenant Commander. “I will not turn down the opportunity, thank you, Commander,” he replied, following her out into the hall.

As they stepped into the hall, Elijah couldn’t shake off the weight of the conversation. “I appreciate the chance to share your company,” he began, his tone earnest. “I must admit, Lieutenant Commander, that this situation has left me feeling rather conflicted. On one hand, I understand the frustration and concerns raised by the officers here. On the other hand, I find it challenging to navigate through the layers of complexity surrounding OED and its relationship with Starfleet.”

He paused, gathering his thoughts before continuing. “I acknowledge my own limitations in understanding the intricacies of this situation. Despite my research and experience, there are aspects that remain elusive, especially when it comes to matters not publicly disclosed. It’s a humbling realization, to say the least.”

Elijah glanced at the Lieutenant Commander, hoping to convey his genuine intent. “My goal, however, remains unchanged: to facilitate understanding and find a way forward, one that respects the needs and concerns of all parties involved.”

“I’m sorry, we’re supposed to be having a break.” He walked a little further, “I hadn’t realised you were also new to OED” he said looking to change conversation.
