Pangolin stepped aside and watched the Ambassador leave, one of the Constables at the end gave him a nod and he visibly relaxed, lowering his posture to a slight hunch and turned to the approaching crime scene investigators “Go in, I want a full holographic scan for the records, PS Lester, go deal with building security I want all of their data for the last twenty-four hours, if you have an issue call DS Lian he’ll get you a warrant” The group immediately went to work. The team of half a dozen or so CSU technicians and specialists walked around the apartment in their dark blue jumpsuits to avoid cross-contaminating the scene. Pangolin watched a feed from their head visors outside on a holographic display. He would go in once they’d finished their work but in the meanwhile he started to get a feel for the apartment.

While the CSU techs got to work another group was cleared and sent up. Two individuals in coveralls and carrying modified medical bags stepped out of the lift. An older man, Hikya Lail, would be familiar to Pangolin. The Bajoran medical examiner worked with the police force often enough. He walked over with his assistant. “Pangolin. I got a call.” He stared through the open door, but didn’t offer to go in until they were cleared to do so.
Hikya Lail, medical examiner
Pangolin turned to face the Medical Examiner, giving him a polite nod “Lail” He said in his usual professional manner “You’ll be free to examine our victim shortly” He said simply as he watched the team go through the apartment.
Laila nodded. He was in no hurry to contaminate the area, and since this wasn’t out in the elements there was no risk of the body or evidence being lost.
As CSU combed the apartment and gathered images and scans of the scene, a few details would surface:
- there was a mark of blood on the edge of the entryway into the sleeping area 180 cms up from the floor and DNA matched the victims. It looked like it was from a high impact.
-below that and smushed into the carpet by footwear was a tendril, organic in origin that was from a Flaxian.
-other than the tendril, there were no other DNA traces in the apartment that did not belong to Jones.
-the office was the most tossed about, as if someone was searching for something
-there were no signs of forced entry. The door and the electronic lock are intact, as also evidenced by the fact that it was closed and locked when Mathis and security arrived for the wellness check.OOC: I will provide more info as you ask for it, and try to keep the evidence post updated.

As CSU finished their last sweep Pangolin put his hands into his pants pockets “He’s all yours Lail.” He told the ME as he entered the room watching everything this time with his naked eyes. “Bag that tendril, I want it analyzed, probed, and all that” He ordered “Victim is Dash Jones, Aide to the Federation Ambassador, give me any information you can with just a quick scan then I want a full autopsy, overtime is authorized for this” Technically the same was true for any murder committed on the planet but he felt this might require it being said aloud.
Lail and his assistant entered the apartment and moved through to the body. They knelt down on either side of the body and Lial began dictating his initial observations. Then he pulled out his tricorder and did preliminary scans.
Pangolin walked through the apartment paying attention to where things were searched as his DS looked at the entryway, both the door and where Jone’s head had likely been smashed in.

The brief scan of Jones revealed several injuries to his face (fractures to left side of the mandible, right zygomatic, right maxilla) that has caused some swelling, a particulate in a laceration on the cheek that was of some sort organic material. There was also a contusion to the abdomen with a closed fracture, and his right arm was also broken. Contusions on his right hand showed he fought back. There was a small laceration on the left side of his skull. None of these injuries would have been life threatening.
Rigor mortis was still present showing death had been in the last 12 hours and there was evidence of cellular death.
“He went through quite a fight before he died, and he fought back. None of those injuries were severe enough to kill him. There is some organic material in the wounds. I will get it to the lab as soon as we get him back. Immediate cause will have to wait for the full autopsy. He is still in rigor with signs of cellular death. He died in the last 12 hours.” Lail moved the hand scanner over the Lowe abdomen for a liver temp. That would give a more precise indication of TOD. He called out to Pangolin, “What is the ambient temperature of the apartment and has that been changed in the last 14 hours?” He needed to know in order to calculate time of death with the liver temp.
Lail, ME
The liver temp was registering at about 33 C.
In the apartment itself, it appeared that the office had bene turned over the most. Jones hadn’t kept a lot of personal items in the space and so it had been pretty tidy until someone had ransacked it, clearly looking for something. His computer terminal was intact but the screen had been smashed with possible the force of a fist.

OOC: I’m going to say that the current time in this thread is ~0630 right now. Other threads are farther ahead but it all still works fine. :)
IC:
The apartment temp was set at a comfortable 20 C and a quick check with the systems would show it hadn’t changed.~Eela Dasca
“I want all local files sent to my office” He checked his hand console “No temp changes from the 20° Centigrade” He informed the ME after a quick check. He looked at the corpse “Can you tell right now if all those injuries occurred at the same time or if there was a time difference” Pangolin asked “I’m wondering if our victim was tortured before death”
DCI Pangolin
The ME did the quick calculations. “He’s been dead 4 hours. That puts the time of death at roughly 0230.” Lial did a scan of the bruises and broken bones. Based on the rate of cellular death, amount of blood leaked around the bruises, and the number of platelets and new fibers formed would give him a rough time of how long they had been healing before the body died. At least enough to tell him if there was a significant difference between the times.
Lial, ME
There was very little healing at all and so it was likely that death occurred within about fifteen minutes of the first injuries. The rate of clotting and healing (minute though it was) showed a sequence of events where Dashiel had managed to fight back in the middle of it, but the head injury was closely followed by the broken arm. Death likely followed closely after that due to still unknown causes.
~Eela Dasca
“The injuries all happened within 15 minutes before death. The defensive and offensive wounds came first, followed by a blow to the head, and then the broken arm. That’s all I can tell you, Pangolin, until I do the autopsy.”
Lial
Pangolin nodded “So not a professional job” He said to himself “Alright you can take the body and start the autopsy,” He said looking at the dead man’s face, putting each facet to memory. “Alright team, let’s start bagging and tagging and put this place through the ringer, if he had anything hidden that the assailant didn’t find I want us to find it” He turned on his heels “I’m going to speak with the ambassador” He said as he went for the exit.
DCI Pangolin
Lial and his assistant prepared the body for transport and then instead of taking the body out of the building, he called for transport to the morgue at Sacred Heart.
Hikya Lail, medical examiner
The team combed the apartment for any fingerprints and DNA but still found none other than Jones and the Flaxian tendril already bagged. In the office, there were PADDs collected as well as his computer, whose screen had been smashed.
