Conrad raised an eyebrow as he donned a playful smile. “Oh! Am I serious distraction now?” he chuckled as he moved forward ever-so-slightly. “Is that a good thing or a bad thing?” he added with a hint of flirtatiousness.

She mirrored his lean and her slate blue eyes glittered. “It depends entirely on your intentions,” she said before pushing herself up to her feet. “Tell you what, Captain Michael Conrad. I really should get a couple things done and maybe reach out to my sister. Since your schedule is so open, why don’t we meet for dinner, say 7 pm? You pick the place, just tell me the dress code.” Was Kristina ever this forward? Not generally. But at this point, they were well past pretending anyway.

Conrad grinned, quite pleased with her forwardness. “There’s a nice place called Swing On By. It has the feel of an old terran jazz club. You by chance familiar with that style?” he spoke, eyes meeting her blue ones with curiosity.

“I know of it,” Kristina said. “I don’t mind it at all, though I can’t say I’ve gone out of my way to listen. But it sounds perfect for dinner.” She rose to her feet. “I guess I will see you there at seven.” She was actually excited at the prospect of continuing their conversation in a different sort of setting. The ship was his space. WOuld he be just as open with her elsewhere? She would find out.
