Sherri grinned at Jezem. “It’s hard to argue with that when it’s all laid out before you. It sounds like he knew what you’d need in order to want to make the leap with them. Have you been together long?”

Lt. Sherri Watts

“He knows me far too well but I can’t say I mind. We’ve been together for almost three years.” Jezem said, that same hopelessly fond expression upon his face, “Though we’ve known each other for longer. I was a general goods merchant way back when. Argam was one of my buyers.” It was love at first sight for Argam. Jezem kept him at arms length until the Ferengi proved himself.

Jezem

Sherri nodded in understanding. “I met husband after I was stationed here. Wasn’t my first choice in assignment either, but it’s a funny place. It grows on you. And then I met the man I ended up marrying and got a promotion, so I say Oed’s done me quite well,” she said with a grin.

Lt. Sherri Watts

Jezem couldn’t help a returning smile. Maybe it was all this talk of Argam that put him in a good mood. “Grows on one like a tumor. . . a benign one. But in all seriousness the colony has done us well too. I’ve never seen Argam happier.” The man had a gift for business. Shame he had such a distaste for their old life but no one was perfectly perfect. “And I get to enjoy a life of luxury. I even learned how to cook.” He added with no small amount of pride.

Jezem

“Well that makes one of us,” Watts said as she moved and peered out the window at the docking port she was waiting to be occupied. A small vessel was maneuvering with thrusters into a docking position. “Finally,” Sherri said, letting out a breath before looking back at Jezem. “Her ship is here, though it’ll be a good ten minutes before she can disembark and clear customs. At least I won’t be too late for my meeting.”

“Ten minutes to clear customs on a good day,” Jezem said with a knowing look. Things rarely went smoothly or as planned in busy spaceports. For any number of reasons be that the weather, the ships, the people, the staff or the whims of fate and subtle touch of the chaos. Though today has been rather quiet in the spaceport, something that trickles down to the people who in turn are more forgiving, more lenient and more happy to get through the day. “Is this her firs time to Oed?”

Jezem

Sherri shook her head. “Second. She made the trip for my wedding, but it’s been two years and I haven’t been off Oed so it’s been awhile. And the colony has changed a lot since then too. She was here when there was still a dome.” She was excited Kari was here and that she’d been staying awhile too. Regardless of the chaos of their childhoods, the two were quite close.
