He let them just soak it in a few moments before opening a ship-wide comm. =/\=All hands, this is the Captain. We’re on our way. It’s a fairly quick jaunt over to the next uninhabited system of Koros where we’ll get in a little target practice in the large asteroid belt. As you know, this is essentially a shakedown cruise, not for the ship, but for us its crew. We’re new to each other and this is a chance to see how we work together, work on the flaws and make sure we’re ready to face whatever might be thrown at us. On Oed we’re often going about our own business, but let’s not forget that we are a part of the first line of defence for four million people. They depend on us and the colonial defence force to keep them safe. The stakes are high for the colony right now, so let’s show them we’re ready. McBride out.”
He allowed the words to settle in before he rose from his chair. “Woods, you have the bridge.”
McBride turned to the mystery man. “Commander, join me, will you?” he said, before heading into the small ready room.
Captain McBride, Starfleet CO
Mark nodded. “Aye sir. I have the conn.” Pushing off from the Science station he padded over to the center seat and parked himself there. New to the Centurion, he could appreciate the vessel. A few months ago he would have been nervous, on-edge perhaps, about taking responsibility for the Centurion. But after the events of the Viking’s last voyage, he was more comfortable here. This wasn’t his first rodeo. Or even the fifth. But more than that, those had been terrible circumstances. This, by comparison, should be a milk run.
Tiberius was excited about firing practice. This will allow him to test his skills as a tactical officer as well as see what this ship can really do, both from a weapons standpoint along with a maneuverability of the Centurion. This was his first time on the ship but he knew some about what everything was about the ship, especially from its weapon systems, but always seeing things in person was a different story than just reading and studying about. He would enjoy the flight along with making sure everything was in tip top shape when the training began.

An hour later, the comms picked up a signal. It was a distress call.
Captain McBride, Starfleet CO
Tiberius began running a scan in the surrounding area to keep an eye on things and see if anything was out an about. He wanted to make sure and be prepared for anything. One never knew what might be out there. He also was running a quick diagnostic on the weapons and shields in order to verify everything would work as expected when needed. He always liked to be prepared and verify things were good to go when needed. He never wanted to be seen as if he had his pants down, when needing something related to protecting the vessel he was running Main Tactical from. Tiberius continued to monitor everything and keep an eye on the diagnostic running.

COS/CTONE Baker spoke up from the comm station, “Captain we’re receiving a distress call. Putting it on audio.” He tapped the controls so the bridge could hear it.
NE Baker, Comms
“Commander,” Woods corrected, but with a smile. It wasn’t hard to feel the nerves and the excitement on the ship. The tactical officer was almost vibrating at his station. Oh, to be that young and exuberant again. “Let’s hear it, mister Baker.”
Tiberius looked up from his station when he heard Baker say something about a distress call. He was very curious to hear what was going on. He had just seen the diagnostic was completed and all systems were ready to go in case of a firefight. He was ready for hopefully anything coming at him but knew fighting was always the last resort. He waited to hear the distress call.

SFCOSA distress call couldn’t be that bad. But then again, he’d thought kind of the same thing about a mysterious message from a distant contact in deep space. Please tell me that this is just a simple emergency, he begged silently to whatever deity might be listening. Meanwhile he reached down and tapped the armchair controls and tapped out a message to send with priority to Captain McBride.

||This is a gen- … -tress call. … crash … five moons. We’re… los- life support. Archie not.... well. I repeat… this… a general… call.||
Woods frowned. “Baker, see if you can clean that up, and get us any carrier data on the source.”
A few moments later, McBride stepped out onto the bridge. “Report.”
Captain McBride, Starfleet CO
Mark stood to vacate the chair. “Distress call. The transmission is broken and garbled. Seeing if we can clean it up. From what I could hear, it sounds like they crashed somewhere nearby, potentially around a celestial body with five moons. I am having NE Baker try to clean it up, and see if they were transmitting transponder data.” He paused for half a second. “I can check star charts in the meantime,” he offered.
