Hannah’s pace was much lazier, but then she wasn’t timing it. Somewhere along her current lap the back and forth motion of the water got to her, or maybe it was just the exertion and she suddenly felt sick and her stomach cramped. She rolled herself onto her back and just floated for a moment. Then slowly kicked her feet, propelling herself toward the ledge.

She bumped the deck gently and turned letting her hand grab the ledge. She started to lift herself out and decided that was a bad idea. She lowered herself back to the water, ducked under the lane robe and made her way to the ladder. She climbed out and made her way to the bench where she sat still for a minute, taking deep breaths. She glanced at the clock and sighed. Yep, that was the problem. She reached into her bag and grabbed a hypospray and pressed it to her neck. Then she dried her face and around her ears. She reached into her bag again and fiddled with her hair and around her ears.

Spotting Cort she waved. “How’d you do?”

Hannah

Cort hauled himself out of the water and dried off his face before he faced Hannah and held out his hand, wiggling it up and down. “Could have been worse. I made up some time but that’s me done with any speed today,” he said with a laugh. “That’s okay though, I was only a little bit slower than my first attempt.”

“How was your swim?” he asked.

“You said it’s been awhile? Might want to try the hot tub or sauna before you go.” Hannah shrugged, “Not as useful as I hoped. I think I may avoid the water for awhile.” That was crazy though, the movement of the water made her sick but climbing was perfectly fine. This kid was driving her bonkers. “It’s good to get the break though. Everything thing feels stretched to its limit and ready to snap.”

Hannah

Cort nodded. “Some heat sounds like a good idea actually.” He studied her for a moment. “You doing okay?” Maybe it was intuition based on her wording or maybe it was something else but having to avoid the water when you loved it never suggested everything was all right.

Hannah stilled a quizzical expression crossing her face. “Oh.” She smiled slightly. She didn’ttalk about it much because she still was trying to wrao her head around it. It wasn’tlike her to avoidbthings because it was easier though, “Yes I am. I suppose. I never know what will make me queasy these days. The baby can’t make up its mind.”

Hannah

Understanding bloomed across his face. “Ahh, that it could. Double-edged sword. Swimming is a fantastic exercise but only if the motion feels good to you. How do you find it with climbing?” He asked reaching for his water and taking a swig.
