“It did. But that was the simple part. I am most anxious to see how the statement is received… both by the representatives and the rest of the government.” He thought in silence, staring at the door, until his black eyes flicked and focused on Eela. “How are you? Your week has certainly not been boring. How are you feeling?”

Hyrushi, Governor

Eela was, in a word, contained. It was the one way she was coping just now and it seemed necessary. “Work is good,” she said softly. “Beyond that…” Eela averted her gaze and sighed. “It’s mixed.” She shifted her gaze back to him and shrugged. “I’m here.”

Kenzo stood and came around the desk. he leaned back against it and leaned forward and took her hand. “What can I do to help?” he asked, and he let the physical connection create a small connection between them.

Hyrushi, Governor

Eela sucked in a breath but didn’t move her hand even though allowing the connection meant it was impossible to keep up her shield. Especially with him. Underneath that wall that was so necessary here in the Tower, Eela was a swirl of confusion, sadness and resentment. “I don’t know exactly. I wish I had a map for everyone to follow, but all I know how to do right now is put one foot in front of the other,” she said, her hazel eyes shining. “And it’s not all bad, either, and I’m trying to hold on to that, but it’s too easy to just sweep everything else away and focus on the good things. Some might think that to be a positive attitude, but this is too big to ignore the complexity of it all. I was twenty-three when I married him Kenzo. That’s a lot of life to unpick and sort through and make sure seeing things clearly; not as I want them to be but also not interpreting things differently than they were.” And of course do all that while simultaneously being fully the leader people expect of her. Regardless of her assertions in her response, she understood the expectations of her all too well. The colony was counting on her and Kenzo to guide them safely through everything (especially the Vren).
