Karilan looked at the space for a long moment, turning and looking, looking and turning. A slow smile spread across their face as they began to see something. “I have an idea… but I will say it is one of my more eclectic ones. So bare with me, and if you hate it, we can do something more traditional.” He took the PaDD and began sketching. It took longer this time, but when they finished they handed Eela tha PaDD with a hesitant smile.

Ever patient with the creative process, she took the PADD and studied it.

The room was rendered quite well. But the most noticeable change was the windows. They were still present, but now they were floor to ceiling transparent bookcases with a rolling ladder and track to get to the higher shelves. There were small cubes around the room on the walls, also transparent, where pieces of importance were singled out and displayed. And where the rug was, was a spiral staircase going into the floor and a cozy reading nook with an overstuffed loveseat and low table. “We can install a sliding cover over the stairs so you can walk uninterrupted around the room. Transparent aluminum so no danger of a break and the nook is still visible.”

Dasca gazed at Karilan, her eyes wide and her smile wider. “This is very unexpected but I love it.” For a moment she looked around the room, trying to envision it as they had so expertly designed. “It’s definitely more of a renovation than I was expecting and that will have some drawbacks.” She wasn’t even sure what the clearance below her one-level apartment was before the next. She knew it was different being the top floor and set to be more secure in the first place. “But if I’m going to have a proper space, I might as well get what I want. And I don’t plan on going anywhere any time soon either. How long do you think something like this would take?” It was going to mean work crews that needed to be cleared by security and a whole host of security issues she likely hadn’t thought of but her team will no doubt remind her of later.

Karilan thought for a moment and then said “I believe we could get it done in three to four days. A week at the most. The most difficult part will be the floor, and we will do that first. We will ensure we have all the needed materials and permits first. That will take only a few days. All in all, I believe we could be done by the end of next week if that is acceptable to you.”

She let out a delighted little laugh. “Why the hell not? Let’s do it!” Eela rubbed her hands together. “Honestly Karilan, my life is a whirlwind and there are some really difficult things going on I have to deal with. I can handle a bit of upheaval if it means this residence can really be a sanctuary and home for me.”

She looked to the technician. “What do you think Fren? Any issues we need to consider in drafting up the plans? Everything that gets done and everyone that comes through here will need to be vetted by security so expect that to add a tiny bit to the timeframe though they won’t hold things up unnecessarily.”
