Oed Realty Group Headquarters - A Short Lesson In Physics
The call had come in via a routing system that ensured it could not be tracked to the receiver. As such, there was a delay from when the call had been made to when the receiver was alerted that they had a message.
The receiver in this case was sitting in a room with ice covering all the walls and surfaces around them. A large window, frosted over of course, did allow some natural sunlight into the space. A clawed hand picked up the customized communicator and they played the message.
“This is Davivica. I- I-… I’m sorry. I know I am supposed to call this only in an emergency and this isn’t exactly one, but… something is happening here at work. We have a new President. A human man who is trying to leverage his new position as a way of… well… I am the only female partner here. And the new President has made it very clear that he sees my success as something I earned… shall we say ‘outside of the office space’? He is trying to get me to… he’s… its very uncomfortable. The personnel department here won’t do anything. I complained and they said it was just ‘a new working environment’ and I need to get used to the new dynamic. But today… today he told that we, he and I, were going to go on a relationship building trip. He’s making me go to a resort on some moon. I don’t want to go, but he told me that if I don’t it will look bad for me. What do I do?”
The clawed hand shut off the message and ten minutes later the Breen known mainly as Kodek Vonn walked out of the house and made their way to a public transporter and some blocks away and vanished in a swirl of lights.
Twenty-seven minutes later, the Breen walked into the lobby of the thirty-one story building housing Oed Realty Group’s headquarters. They strode past the security desk and went to the turbolifts. Security was a very good in the building and all visitors had to check in… but there was an exception made for the armored and helmeted Breen. The doors to the lift opened and Vonn stepped in. They rode the lift to the top floor, ORG’s executive level. Stepping out, the receptionist said “Oh hello Si-, er, Ma’-… um… Hello. I will get Ms. Hayden-Smythe for you.” A gauntleted hand rose and stopped the call from being made. Instead the Breen turned to the left and began walking down the hall towards the executive offices. A sign on one read “Davivica Hayden-Smythe, Senior Partner”. Vonn walked past it. Soon, they arrived at on that said “Chaz Romans, President’. The door was shut and locked, and a group if figures could be seen at a large conference table, including Ms. Hayden-Smythe. Shr looked up just in time… and she ducked.
An armored fist went through the door, causing all the figures at the table beyond it to scream and lurch away from the door as it splintered and the armored hand grasped it and yanked it off the slide, throwing it aside as so much trash. As the figures scrambled to get as far away from the monster at the door, Von strode in. The helmet swiveled slightly until the visor locked onto a singular figure: Chaz Romans.
“Mr. Romans, today is a good day for you.” the synthesized voice from the helmet said. “Today you learn an important lesson.” and they walked over slowly and deliberately to stand in front of the cowering realtor. With a speed that was wholly unnatural for a figure that size, the gauntleted hand grabbed the man by the front of the shirt and lifted him off the ground. “Your predecessor was in this same position. I hope you are as intelligent as he was at the time.” the voice said as they moved towards one of the tall windows. “Ladies and gentlemen. Today’s lesson is physics. Specifically the first universal law of physics.” As the Breen approached the window, they pulled a very intimidating looking pistol from the holster at their hip and aimed at the window and fired. A sickly-green bolt of energy hit the glass and it shattered and then disintegrated. The Breen shoved the struggling and screaming figure outside of the building, dangling them thirty-one stories above the bustling street below. “The first law states that an object will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled to change its state by the action of an external force. The object in motion in this experiment is Mr. Romans. The external force-” and the hand opened and the screaming figure dropped out of sight, “- is the ground.” The Breen turned and looked at the shocked faces for a moment when the room was lit by a bright light and Chaz Romans fell to the floor with a thud. The Breen walked over to the prone President. “You have something in common with your predecessor after all. His pants were similarly soiled at our encounter.” The Breen reached down and pulled the transporter tag off the man’s suit coat and picked up the mobile pad from the floor where they had dropped it. The helmet looked at Romans and said “This was your warning. The next time, there will be no transporter. Davivica Hayden-Smythe is to be left alone from your advances and your interference in her business dealings. And should you set your unwanted sights on anyone else, remember that I do not like you. And if I hear even a rumor of your past behavior reoccurring, I will teach you another law of physics. That being two objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time. In that experiment, one object is your heart. The other is my hand.”
The Breen turned and looked at the faces staring blankly at them. “I suggest a new President. But that is your business.” and they walked out of the room.
The next day, the Oed Realty Group announced the resignation of its President, citing ‘ongoing health issues’. A new President, one La’tin Descolu, was voted unanimously as President. Her first act was to name Senior Partner Davivixa Hayden-Smythe as Vice President of Concierge Services, a new department dedicated to servicing the firm’s most exclusive clientele.
