“I do appreciate a person of efficiency,” Dasca said as she rose and stepped around the desk to stretch her back. She was very glad for her foresight in suggesting they order dinner. She had a bunch of calls to make in order to get her side of things squared away and there was no point running back and forth between offices.

Hands on her hips as she stretched out her neck, Eela turned back to gaze at Kenzo, breaking into a soft smile. Something else had shifted today and she couldn’t pinpoint it exactly but it made her feel more grounded on this colony. It was like she finally pulled those threads from her starship captain days and found the way to weave them into her work here. Those threads were the essence of Eela the Leader. For better or worse she was knee deep in the more with them all and it rather delighted her. “I think I might be enjoying all this too much.”

Kenzo shrugged slightly and said “Why Ms. Dasca, I do not believe you shared your fondness for pain before.” sarcastically. “This is a work place, Lieutenant Governor. We do have an Employee Relations officer I could report you to.” and he gave a dry chuckle.

Hyrushi, Governor

She held up her hands defensively. “Hey, to each their own.” Eela moved back towards the desk. “Besides, it wasn’t an invitation,” she deadpanned, though inwardly was highly amused. It was interesting to compare their first meeting with their banter now. My how things had changed.

Hyrushi continued to work on the draft with Eela until the comms beeped and Ms. Fen said “Governor, there is a courier here for you. From Ambassador Mathis.” Kenzo stood and left, then came back in with a diplomatic pouch. Inside was a locked PaDD with the permission Sindra had requested. “Step one.” He placed a call and the PaDD was picked up, again sealed against prying eyes, and half an hour later Sindra sent word that she had it and the probe had just been delivered. She was departing for Vren space within the hour.

Kenzo looked at Eela and said “Why do I have a sudden urge for something very strong to drink…” and he shook his head slightly.

Hyrushi, Governor

“Because we’re about to do something really big that feels really stupid even though we know better. I’m trying to be mindful of those urges though. I’ve had them a lot and if I let Oed have it’s say I think I’d drink far much.” She was only partly joking. “Let’s save it for after the statement,” she said, pressing her eyebrows into her forehead ridge. “And remember to wear our protective vests.” More half-jokes.

“Indeed. Although they do not serve us well in the event of someone shooting us in the head.” Kenzo said flatly.

“Then we won’t care?” she said with a shrug.

Eela gazed at Kenzo intently for a moment before offering a soft smile. It was one that held a knowing. They were in this together. Rising to her feet, she placed a hand on his shoulder and blew out a breath. “When the Steadfast and went down and my life went to shit, I never thought I’ve have another work partnership like I had with Benji. I am delighted to be proven terribly wrong,” she said, breaking into a grin. “Thank you for letting me in.”

Kenzo inclined his head slightly and said “And thank you for proving me wrong. I trusted the Federation to send a Lieutenant Governor who would do as little as possible, and flee at the first sign of difficulty. I am either glad they saw through past mistakes… or that they made a mistake in our favor. Either way, I am glad that you are the one here.”

Hyrushi, Governor

She winked and gave his shoulder a squeeze before moving away.

Eela spun on the ball of her foot and looked back at him. “I know I’m a bit of hypocrite for saying this, but let the Vren not exist for short while. Go home, take a break. Tomorrow will be a busy day, and I myself want to soak in a tub and pretend I haven’t invited trouble on two fronts into my life.” Between the Vren and the Starfleet scandal this week was a rough one. And amongst all of that was the bachelorette auction. What a life!
