Zaril walked into the mess and back toward the kitchen. He was excited to see the kitchen, what tools he would have and what ingrediants the chef had managed to stalk up. He looked into the back with a grane of his next and a turn of his head, oozzing peach and calm. “Hello?” he said finally.

Gorshin, an older portly human man. Walked out, wiping his hands on his sauce stained apron. “Hello young man, what can I do for you?”

Cpt. Asam, CO

The mans demenor made him happy, Gorshin could feel the shift in his own emotions. “I was hoping to use the kitchen, I was going to try and prepare a delatan meal if it’s permisable, ” he said, his hand folded infront ofhimself. “I realize I may have to improvise some of the course and well reduce the numer of them,” he laughed slightly.

Gorshin slapped his hands together and then rubbed them. “Excellent! I wish more people would ask. Come, come,” he waved Zaril into the kitchen. “2 things, you clean up after yourself, and two leave me a list of everything you are using. That way I can adjust the menu accordingly.”

Gorshin, chef

“That is very generious” he said following the man. “Deltan meals are some where between 15 and 20 courses, lasting around two hours.” he noted. “But the courses are small, but filled with flavor, smells, texture, but I’m not sure what I can substatute can you help me find substatutes.?” he asked.

Gorshin nodded, “Of course! I need to keep preparing, but let me know what is missing and I’ll help you find substitutes.”

Gorshin, chef
Zaril smiled. “I have a list of the detlan ingrendents I need” he said handing him the list. This is all deltan, but I’m hoping you have simlar items with the same taste, aromma and texture” he paused. “i’ll be making mine as we eat, do you need some help preparing for the afternoon meal?” he asked

Gorshin took the list and read through it, making notes next to the ones that he did not have.

“There you go. I was able to get a few when I heard you were coming on board. You are welcome to use as much as you want. As for help, that would be wonderful. Thank you, Lt.”

Gorshin, chef

He lowered his head a little but the joy could be felt clear enough. “Im honored that you took some much care in making sure I had native food to eat, that is very kind of you” he noted. “I love to cook, let me wash up and then you can point me to where you need me” he noted moving to clean his hands and find an appron

Gorshin grinned and handed him an apron. “I try to get something familiar for everyone. Back in the NX days, there was a chef on board. We didn’t have food synthesizers. We had to keep fresh or grow it or preserved food. But it still had to be prepared. Then new technology made the need for returning home for fresh food less necessary. But I think we lost something. Food is an equalizer and a tether. Reminds us of where we came from, keeps our roots strong while we stretch across the stars.”

He picked up a paring knife and flipped it around and offered it handle first to Dovek. “Here, if you are up for it, I need that whole collection of vegetables over there chopped so I can get them added to the pot for a new stew I’m trying tonight.”

Gorshin, chef

Dovek smiled. “Sensory input is a wounderfull reminder of home” he noted. “And the synthetic foods trigger the memory differently, its the same but some how the mind knows its not” he said moving to the staion. He secured his appron, cleaned the vegatables and soon was cutting them up, he speed and acuracty with the knife was both impressive and a little frighting.
