Forster’s comm check reached T’Sol through a wash of static, confirming that communications were still functioning, although interference inside the derelict had noticeably increased.

As T’Sol entered the adjoining compartment, her tricorder struggled to resolve several intermittent readings. They briefly registered within the biological range before shifting toward something resembling active machinery. Whatever was producing them, the tricorder could not conclusively classify them as lifeforms.

The atmosphere was easier to determine. The compartment contained a breathable oxygen-nitrogen mixture within tolerable limits, though several trace compounds remained unidentified.

Archer was looking around, admiring the intricate lattice system that connected the various consoles to the hull and deck. He started to take scans of the dormant consoles, seeing whether he could glean any information from them.

Elsewhere, near the derelict’s command systems, the XO encountered a noticeable change. Several previously dormant consoles illuminated in sequence, their unfamiliar displays filling with geometric symbols and rapidly shifting patterns. One larger station appeared to show a three-dimensional representation of the derelict, with four points grouped together in one section of the vessel and several other areas—including the away team’s locations—highlighted separately.

Noticing the consoles come to life, he moved across to the larger station, and looked at the three-dimensional schematic of the ship. He could make out the locations of the away team, three of the points, but was curious about the 4th point.

Then the deck beneath the away team vibrated faintly.

Pale blue-white illumination spread across several wall panels as machinery deeper within the derelict began operating. A low harmonic resonance traveled through the surrounding structure.

T’Sol’s tricorder immediately registered another ambiguous biological-mechanical signature approximately twenty meters ahead. This one was moving.

At nearly the same moment, the command display near the XO changed.

A new point of light appeared within the three-dimensional representation—moving through the vessel toward T’Sol’s position.

=^= Archer to T’Sol - Look sharp, you may have company. =^= he stated, plainly, not entirely sure what the latest point of light was representing. He holstered his tricorder, and started to jog toward T’Sol’s position.

=^= Yes commander. This hallway is breathable too sir. You shoukd be able to come through no problem.=^=. She replied to him as sje was still being cautious about everything.

=^= Archer to Forster, fall back to where we originally split up. =^= he said as he made his way back down the corridors.

John responded to the communication =O= yes sir do you want me to get the shuttle already? Because things are coming online down here. =O= he said as he hurried down the corridor back to the main split

Lt. John Forster (CWO)

As the away team began converging on the original junction, the harmonic resonance within the derelict deepened. Blue-white illumination continued spreading through the walls and deck, activating in sequence along corridors that had been dark only minutes earlier.

T’Sol’s tricorder registered the approaching biological-mechanical signature again. It was now less than fifteen meters away and closing steadily. The readings remained contradictory: organic compounds, a weak energy source, and metallic structures occupying nearly the same location. Then the movement stopped.

Approximately ten meters ahead of T’Sol, a section of wall silently separated along seams that had previously been invisible. Beyond it lay a narrow chamber illuminated by the same pale blue-white light. Inside stood a humanoid-shaped figure.

Its body appeared partly organic and partly constructed, with dark metallic structures integrated through pale, desiccated tissue. It made no immediate move toward T’Sol, but several points of blue-white light illuminated across its upper torso as the harmonic resonance changed around it.

At the command station Archer had just left, the schematic updated again. The moving contact stopped directly beside T’Sol’s marker, while another previously unrecognized symbol began flashing near the away team’s original entry point.

Forster’s tricorder detected the change as he approached the junction. Something had activated near the route leading back toward the shuttle—an energy signature that had not been present when the team entered.

Then the derelict transmitted another harmonic pulse through its structure. For several seconds, every active tricorder carried the same repeating sequence. Whatever had awakened aboard the vessel was no longer confined to one section of the ship.

Will flipped the top of the tricorder open as he arrived at the junction. As he looked into the small display screen, he noticed the new signatures that had appeared. ‘Curious,’ he thought to himself, wondering why they had waited until the crew were deeper into the ship to reveal themselves.

Seeing Forster arrive, he motioned towards T’Sol’s position. “Let’s regroup with T’Sol, and find out what we are dealing with.”

John followed the XO and he ready his phaser. John was not sure if the phaser will do anything but it was better than nothing. As they moved down the corridor, John noticed a lot of the consoles and technology panels were lighting up “um sir I am noticing the ship seems to be waking up”

Lt. John Forster (CWO)

As Archer and Forster moved deeper toward T’Sol’s position, the derelict continued awakening around them. Blue-white illumination spread beneath translucent sections of the deck and climbed the walls in branching patterns, while machinery somewhere behind the bulkheads produced a low, rhythmic vibration.

Their route brought them past a broad chamber their earlier scans had identified only as another inactive compartment. It was no longer inactive. The doorway stood open, revealing four humanoid figures clustered near the center of the chamber. These were the four contacts the Chernov had been tracking from outside the vessel.

They resembled the figure T’Sol had encountered. Each was humanoid, but only partially organic. Pale, desiccated tissue remained stretched across portions of their bodies, intertwined with dark metallic structures that disappeared beneath the flesh and emerged again around their limbs, torsos, and skulls. Thin conduits ran between organic and mechanical components as though neither had ever been intended to function independently.

The four were not standing freely. Bands of shimmering blue-white energy formed a rough perimeter around them, extending from the deck to the ceiling. Whenever one approached the boundary, the field brightened and the harmonic vibration in the surrounding bulkheads changed slightly.

One of the figures slowly turned its head toward the corridor as Archer and Forster passed. Several blue-white points illuminated across its chest as the others followed almost simultaneously, looking toward the away team as well. It was eerie given the absolute silence of the beings. The only sound the crackling of the blue-white energy.

Forster’s tricorder registered the same contradictory biological and mechanical readings T’Sol had previously encountered, but another detail was immediately apparent: the field surrounding the four contacts was being generated by the derelict itself.

Then the ship released another harmonic pulse. For an instant, the lights across all four figures flashed in exactly the same sequence as the repeating pattern appearing on the Away Team’s tricorders. Farther down the corridor, something answered with the same sequence.

Continuing onward, Archer and Forster rounded the next junction and found T’Sol ahead of them near the narrow chamber she had discovered. The solitary biomechanical figure remained within, blue-white illumination still visible across its upper torso. The Away Team was together again.

And now there were five known figures aboard the derelict.

She looked up and saw the two come around. “Commander, Lieutenant. I’ve found some very unusual readings of some sort of living being. Not sure where but something is alive down here.” She reported. “I would recommend we go and head back to the ship and inform the captain.” She added.

OOC: Being pedantic… Will instructed the away team not to take weapons… he may be reconsidering this life choice, but we need to live with it.

IC:

“Yes, quite.” Will said, nodding toward the biomechanical figure that stood before them. “What do you make of it?” asked, both T’Sol and Forster.

Cmdr William Archer
First Officer

“Well, it’s clearly not Borg because the organic and mechanical are perfectly combined. I don’t see any weapons, but it looks extremely strong.” John said out loud “do you think we should try talking with them?” He asked

Lt. John Forster (CWO)

“It is only logical that we do try for a first contact. But I must give a warning. A bit of a primitive species we have yet to identify. The logical choice is to make first contact and being cautious about doing so. This species also seems to be ‘gentle’. Which of course isn’t the word choice that I would use. But having phasers even if it is a single phase may or may not provoke them.” She added.
