Sovan studied the medical telemetry for several moments, comparing the current readings with those recorded during the earliest stages of Batario’s contact with the Entity.“That is correct, Doctor,” he said to Najjar. “Lieutenant Batario’s physiological condition has demonstrated no significant deterioration for several hours. His neural activity remains unusual, but stable. The synchronization between his cortical patterns and the external resonance continues without measurable neurological distress.”
One eyebrow rose slightly as another set of readings appeared. “In fact, his current neurological stress indicators are lower than they were when the connection was first established. Logically, continued observation remains prudent, but there is presently no evidence that the contact itself is harmful.”
As Pawl drifted back into REM sleep, the change was immediately visible to those gathered around the biobed. The neurological monitor shifted as a familiar secondary pattern strengthened alongside Pawl’s own, gradually matching the rhythm that Sovan had documented during the previous periods of direct communication.
Sovan leaned closer to the display. “The resonance is increasing again.” There was no alarm in his voice as he continued. “His vital signs remain stable. REM activity has intensified, and the secondary neural pattern has returned to its previous synchronization.”
Within Pawl’s perception, Sickbay disappeared once again as the warm shoreline returned. Gentle waves rolled across pale sand while the endless blue ocean stretched toward the horizon. The Entity waited nearby, its luminous form shimmering softly beneath the sunlight. Pawl’s question seemed to linger between them.
What should I call you?
For several moments there was no answer. Instead, something changed. A sound entered the shared space and it was unlike any spoken language Pawl had encountered, beginning as a deep harmonic vibration before separating into several overlapping tones. The sound seemed impossible for a Human voice to reproduce, carrying meaning through resonance rather than syllables.
Images accompanied the sound. The crystalline cities of the Entity’s people appeared briefly, followed by thousands of luminous beings joined through the vast network Pawl had witnessed before. Within that collective, the same harmonic pattern repeated whenever attention turned toward the being now standing before him. The vision faded. That was what I was called
There was a pause before it went on Your mind cannot form it
Pawl felt the Entity regarding him for several moments before the light within its form shifted warmly.
But you have given me something my people did not
A feeling accompanied the thought.
Individuality
The Entity had once existed as part of something vastly larger, one consciousness among countless interconnected minds. A personal name, at least as Pawl understood the concept, had possessed little importance. Now it understood why Pawl had asked.
If I am your friend, Pawl… The Entity extended a luminous hand toward him. Then perhaps you should give me a name
Back in Sickbay, the monitors continued displaying the same remarkable synchronization as Sovan watched the patterns for several seconds before speaking. “Whatever communication is occurring, Doctor, Lieutenant Batario appears to have entered another sustained exchange.” He indicated the two waveforms flowing almost perfectly beside one another. “And the Entity appears to be responding.”
Nosferatu
Your Darkest NightmarePawl took in all the information and thought quietly for a moment as he took in all that he saw and felt as he started to think of a name.
~”How about Tamm?”~ Pawl asked the entity. Pawl waited calmly to see how the entity liked it.[[Lt ]] [[Pawl Batario]]
[[Chief_Engineer]] [[Uss_Chernov]]The Entity remained motionless after Pawl offered the name. The gentle waves continued to roll against the shoreline, but the luminous figure seemed to withdraw into contemplation.
Tamm
The word returned through the connection, not spoken so much as examined. Pawl could sense the Entity turning the unfamiliar collection of sounds over within its consciousness, comparing it against concepts drawn from Pawl’s own mind.
Tamm
This time the thought carried curiosity. The light within the Entity shifted subtly as countless fragments of memory seemed to move behind its translucent form.
Does this word have meaning? There was a pause.
Among your people, are names chosen because of what they represent? Or is Tamm a sound you believe belongs to me? The Entity looked down at its luminous hands, seemingly contemplating the strange concept of possessing something that belonged exclusively to itself. For a being that had spent its existence as part of a vast collective consciousness, even the idea of my name remained profoundly unfamiliar.
Its attention returned fully to Pawl. If I am to become Tamm, I wish to understand why you chose it. For several moments, the Entity waited patiently for its friend to explain.
What does Tamm mean, Pawl?
Nosferatu
Your Darkest Nightmare~”Well, Tamm it’s means is roughly means, total honesty and truth and truly innocent. “~ Pawl said simply. ~”There are some scholars and ancient priests who went by that name as well in the past. “~ Pawl was very sincere about his description of the meaning of Tamm. As he relaxed more in the dreamscape setting.
[[Lt ]] [[Pawl Batario]]
[[Chief_Engineer]] [[Uss_Chernov]]The Entity listened without interruption as Pawl explained the meaning behind the name. The shoreline remained peaceful around them, waves washing gently across the sand while the luminous figure considered the concepts he had offered.
Truth. Honesty. Innocence.
Each word passed through the connection separately, accompanied by impressions rather than simple definitions. The Entity seemed less interested in the literal translation than in understanding why Pawl believed those qualities belonged to it. Its light brightened softly.
Then Tamm has meaning because you saw these things within me.
The Entity looked toward the endless horizon. My people did not require names as you understand them. We knew one another without them. There was no need to distinguish one voice from another when all voices were joined. Its attention returned to Pawl. But I am no longer joined to them.
There was no sorrow within the thought this time, only recognition of what had changed. Then I will be Tamm.
Warmth flowed through the connection, carrying something Pawl had not sensed from the Entity before: acceptance of an identity that belonged to it alone. And I will remember that my friend gave it to me.
The peaceful rhythm of the shoreline abruptly stopped, the next wave reached the sand and remained there. Tamm turned sharply toward the horizon and the warmth within the connection changed as its attention moved elsewhere. Pawl received fragments of sensation through their link: the immense derelict drifting in space, its ancient internal pathways stretching outward like dormant nerves, and then something foreign moving among them. The were small, artificial and uninvited.
Several points of awareness appeared within the vessel where none had existed before. They were not living beings, nor were they part of the derelict. They moved deliberately through passages and chambers, separating from one another as they penetrated farther into the ancient ship. Unmanned probes.
The dreamscape began to distort around Tamm as the blue sky flickered with brief images of unfamiliar corridors while ripples spread across the previously motionless ocean. and the Entity Tamm’s luminous form intensified. Something has entered. Through the connection came another impression: the probes moving through the derelict, observing, searching and transmitting.
They are not your people and they have entered without invitation. . Tamm reached toward Pawl, and the connection between them strengthened. For the first time since Pawl had encountered the Entity, something distinctly different accompanied its thoughts. Concern.
They are searching the vessel.
Back in Sickbay, Sovan’s display changed immediately. The synchronized neural patterns remained intact, but the secondary waveform suddenly increased in amplitude as several unfamiliar resonance spikes appeared across the monitor.
Sovan studied the readings closely before looking up toward the CMO. “Doctor, there has been a significant change in the Entity’s resonance pattern.” His fingers moved across the medical console, isolating the sudden fluctuations. “Lieutenant Batario remains physiologically stable, but the Entity appears to be reacting to an external stimulus.” Another resonance spike crossed the display that made Sovan’s eyebrow rise in surprise . “Whatever has attracted its attention, Doctor, it appears to have occurred very suddenly.”
Nosferatu
Your Darkest NightmareNajjar took up a position next to Sovan and let her dark eyes take in the readouts of his work. “Keep watching. As long as Batario is stable we won’t interfere, but if either his or the entity’s readings change in a negative way, let me know immediately.” She began to walk away but turned back to face the Vulcan. “Your work is exemplary, Lt. good job.”
After giving him a nod, Mykl stepped into her office for a moment of respite.
Lieutenant Mykl Najjar
Chief Medical Officer USS ChernovPawl came out of his REM state. But was still in contact with the entity. “Something has entered the entity’s ship without permission; the entity is now named Tamm and is concerned about this new intruder.” Pawl said quickly. Pawl did his best to stay calm. Feeling the intruder’s presence. Pawl attempted to get a better understanding of the new arrival. ~”I will help you if I can.”~ Pawl said to the entity.

Mykl wound up having a coffee in her office and a few moments off of her feet. Pic had returned to their quarters a couple of hours earlier. She and Sovan had been watching over Batario for several hours now, but there had been no major changes in quite a while. Returning her mug to be recycled, she exited the office and returned to where the Vulcan doctor still stood.
“Any changes?” He shook his head in the negative. “Alright, let’s discharge him. He appears to be fine and if he is still in contact with the entity, it doesn’t seem to want to do him any harm. Najjar walked to Pawl’s bed.
“Lt, I want you to return to work now or to your quarters. There doesn’t appear to be anything else we can do for you. If you feel a change in your status, headache, lack of control, anything really out of the ordinary, please come back.”
