Pawl was not sure what to say about the man leaving, even though he understood the reasons. “Of course we can still communicate; I would like that.”Pawl said with a neutral tone. Even though his heart felt the change of everything. “I won’t speak of this condition with anyone. I know you have a system for letting whoever he wanted to know. “Until we meet again It was an honor to serve with you Kasarak.” Pawl said with sincerity.[[Lt ]] [[Pawl Batario]]
[[Chief_Engineer]] [[Uss_Chernov]]An honor to serve with you, Kasarak. A formal acknowledgement of their professional time together, accompanied by Pawl’s own pronunciation of Kastarak’s name. Kastarak felt a sudden pain in his gut, one that he named as an emotion: disappointment. He considered a moment what he was disappointed about. Pawl was his underling, his chief engineer. It was entirely professional and heartfelt. Pawl had also promised him secrecy, and was warm.
But Kastarak had hoped Pawl would mention something else: their relationship, their time together, their… love.
But Kastarak had not mentioned it either. Neither had Pawl.
Kastarak had a year ago broken up with Pawl, re-defined their relationship. Why would Pawl go against that now? Even though Kastarak wanted.
“Likewise, my friend,” Kastarak replied. “Thank you for everything.”
He meant it. The word friend. Gratefulness for everything. Everything.
Kastarak looked Pawl in the eye, lifted his right hand up in a Vulcan salute.
“Live long and prosper.”
Kastarak noticed his throat dry, his eyes tense. Before Pawl would notice the physiological changes in him, he left Pawl.
Kastarak, Cpt
Commanding OfficerPawl raised his right hand and returned the Vulcan salute. “Peace and long life! My Friend.” Pawl said, doing his best to control himself. “Please keep in touch.” Pawl requested. Hoping Kasarak understood him. a single tear left his right eye and rolled down his cheek. As he watched his leave for now he hoped.
It was difficult watching Captain Kastarak have a whispered conversation with Pawl, because Najjar had been notified as soon as the decision had been made about him stepping down from command because of Tuvan syndrome, and he must be telling Batario good bye. She’d finished her coffee and sandwich by the time Kastarak left.
Mykl motioned to Pic that she would return in a moment and went to find Sovan who had returned from eating. “There you are.” She said as she spotted him. “Listen, there’s going to be a change of command ceremony on the bridge within the next hour. We can leave sickbay in the hands of everyone else since our patients aren’t in bad condition anymore. Do you want to attend the change over with me?”
Lieutenant Mykl Najjar
Chief Medical Officer USS ChernovSovan nodded, “I would be honored, Doctor.” He said surprised that she was including him in what was normally reserved for more senior officers. Given that it had been scheduled on the bridge. He set down his datapad and nodded to one of the nurses who acknowledged that she was watch over Pawl. The man probably needed a bit of alone time at the moment.
Exit Sickbay with the CMO the two made their way to the bridge.
Doctor Sovan
Ensign Sutalo nodded at them. “I’ll check on Pawl and any other incoming patients while the ceremony goes on.”
Sutalo, Ens.
Nurse / Medical Officer
USS ChernovSovan returned to Sickbay with the CMO. He nodded to Sutalo, before heading over to the medical console where he live activated all his scans again. “Any change in Lt. Batario’s condition?” He asked.
Doctor Sovan
OOC: Pawl, have you had enough of communing with the entity or would you like to continue? Nosferatu
“I am open and flexible on the entity front.”

[[Chief_Engineer]] [[Uss_Chernov]]Sickbay had settled back into its normal rhythm following the brief change of command ceremony. Medical personnel quietly resumed their duties while the soft cadence of biomonitors filled the room.
Lieutenant Pawl Batario remained comfortably reclined upon the biobed, the neurological displays above him presenting a markedly different picture than they had only hours before. The erratic cortical activity that had accompanied first contact was gone. In its place were two synchronized neural patterns, distinct yet harmoniously intertwined.
Doctor Sovan reviewed the latest scan results with characteristic Vulcan precision. “The lieutenant’s neurological activity remains stable,” he reported as another diagnostic completed. “Cortical synchronization continues without indication of cellular degradation or elevated neural stress. The psionic resonance has entered a sustained equilibrium.”
He compared the newest readings with those recorded earlier in the encounter. “There remains no medical justification for interrupting the connection. Physiological indicators continue to support the conclusion that both participants have achieved a stable symbiotic exchange.”
As Sovan continued monitoring the telemetry, Pawl once again felt the familiar transition as the sounds of Sickbay slowly faded.
Warm sunlight settled across his face as a gentle breeze carried the scent of saltwater. White sand stretched beneath his feet while calm waves rolled rhythmically onto an endless shoreline beneath a cloudless blue sky as the Entity stood nearby.
Its luminous form appeared calmer than before, its shifting patterns no longer carrying the uncertainty that had marked their first encounter. Instead, its radiance possessed a quiet serenity.
When it spoke, the communication entered Pawl’s thoughts directly. “Your sorrow… is now understood.”
The shoreline shimmered as the beach dissolved into another memory.Towering crystalline structures rose beneath a brilliant sky, connected by streams of shimmering light flowing effortlessly between countless beings. Thoughts, emotions, knowledge, and memories passed freely throughout the collective in perfect harmony.
“We never truly departed from one another.” The vision slowly changed and the streams of light began disappearing. One after another.
Entire cities gradually fell silent until only isolated strands remained. The immense psychic lattice that had once connected an entire civilization faded until a single point of light endured against an otherwise quiet world.
Alone.
The vision lingered only briefly before the shoreline returned and the Entity regarded Pawl with quiet understanding. “When the final voice faded… I remained to remember.”
A pause followed as the surf continued its gentle rhythm. “When your captain departed, I perceived not merely separation… but the hope that accompanies farewell between those who believe they shall meet again.” Its luminous form seemed almost to brighten.
“Hope is… a remarkable expression.”Far away aboard the Chernov, the medical monitors continued to display nothing more concerning than two remarkably stable neural patterns maintaining their peaceful communion.
Nosferatu
Your Darkest NightmareNajjar followed Sovan over to where he was monitoring the telemetry between Batario and the entity. “So, really, what you’re saying is that there hasn’t been any change for quite some time and that the Lt is still mentally and physically stable?” Pawl looked fine as he reclined on the bio bed, calm and quiet. Mykl wished she knew what was going on with the away team. What were they finding? Would they be able to contact the same entity Batario was dealing with?

Chief Medical Officer USS Chernov
Pawl understood the entity. ~”You’re right. There is hope it’s a powerful motivator.”~ Pawl thought with a smile. As he looked around sickbay. “Doctor? When can I resume my duties??” He asked calmly. “Will it be ok to get a padd so I can get my reports done? And all the information I have collected and get it down in writing?” Pawl asked.
