USS Chernov

Main Sim: Engineering

Main Engineering maintained its steady rhythm as the USS Chernov remained on alert near the ancient derelict. The warp core’s blue-white glow pulsed through the chamber while engineers monitored the countless systems that kept the battlecruiser ready for whatever might come next. Although much of the crew’s attention was focused on the away team and Lieutenant Batario’s unprecedented contact with the entity, Engineering could afford no distractions.

Chief Petty Officer Giles stood at the primary systems console, reviewing the latest power distribution reports with the practiced eye of someone who had spent years learning the subtle language of a starship.

“So far, so good,” he murmured as another diagnostic cycle completed. “Warp core output remains steady. Structural integrity field is holding without any unexpected fluctuations.”

A nearby technician handed him another PADD. “The long-range sensor arrays are still drawing above-normal power, Chief.”

“I expected as much.” Giles glanced over the figures before nodding. “Science has been pushing those arrays since we found the derelict. Keep monitoring the EPS load across the dorsal sensor grid. If any junction starts trending toward thermal saturation, reroute through the secondary trunks before it becomes a problem.” The technician acknowledged the order and returned to work.

Giles looked across Engineering toward Ensign Shroni zh’Rohi’s station.

“Ensign,” he called, “I’d like you to perform a complete Level-One diagnostic on the shuttle support systems. Verify docking tractor response times, environmental support, launch control interlocks, and ensure recovery systems are standing by at full readiness. With our people aboard that derelict, I don’t want any surprises when they come home.”
Without waiting for a reply, he returned his attention to the engineering displays.

Another engineer approached from the environmental systems console. “Chief, all life-support systems are operating normally. No indication the harmonic emissions are coupling into the ship.”

“Good,” Giles replied. “Let’s keep it that way. Continue comparing shield harmonics against the environmental grid. If this anomaly changes its behavior, I want Engineering to know before anyone else.”

He folded his arms, watching the warp core for a moment as its familiar cadence echoed through the compartment.

“The bridge, Sickbay, and the away team all have enough on their hands,” he said quietly to the engineers nearby. “Our job is simple.”

He looked back across the compartment as every workstation remained active. “We make sure the Chernov is ready for whatever happens next.”

Around him, the engineering crew resumed their work with quiet professionalism, the ship’s mechanical heart continuing its steady beat while events beyond the hull unfolded one careful step at a time.
