Your Darkest NightmarePawl continued to listen to the entity and the doctor. Continuing to learn more from the entity, still showing images, telepathy, and speaking verbally, in hopes of better understanding. to help with a better understanding. of him and the others, also explaining,” The dreamscape where they were sitting at an umbrella-covered table with light ocean breezes and a light wave coming on shore. This dreamscape is a real place as well,” he told the entity.
[[Lt ]] [[Pawl Batario]]
[[Chief_Engineer]] [[Uss_Chernov]]The warm breeze carried the scent of salt and distant rain as the gentle rhythm of the waves continued their endless conversation with the shore. Nothing in the dreamscape felt forced. It flowed with the effortless consistency of a place remembered rather than imagined.
The entity remained silent.
As Pawl shared images of beaches, oceans, and worlds beyond this one, the luminous figure regarded them with quiet fascination. Each memory drifted between them like ripples spreading across still water. Tropical coastlines gave way to alien seas, bustling Federation worlds, starships crossing the darkness, and countless faces—each distinct, each carrying their own thoughts and identities.
The glow surrounding the being pulsed softly. “Many… yet one.”
The words were accompanied not by uncertainty, but by dawning comprehension. Another series of images emerged—not from Pawl this time, but from the entity itself.
Vast oceans stretched beneath unfamiliar skies. Towering crystalline reefs shimmered beneath tranquil waters while immense schools of bioluminescent life moved together as though sharing a single purpose. There were no cities, no machines, no signs of individuals apart from the whole. Every movement flowed in harmony with every other, an existence defined not by separate voices, but by a unified consciousness.
The feeling accompanying the vision was unmistakable. It was not loneliness but belonging. Then the vision shifted as the harmony fractured. The waters grew still as the countless lights that had once moved together faded one by one until only a single glow remained, drifting through an immeasurable darkness.
The entity’s radiance dimmed for a brief moment. “I remained.”
Back in Sickbay, Dr. Sovan watched the neural monitors with careful attention. The resonance remained remarkably stable. Unlike earlier interactions, there were no spikes in stress hormones, no dangerous synchronization cascades, and no indication that Pawl’s cortical activity was being overwhelmed. Instead, the neural patterns of both participants displayed an orderly exchange, each adapting to the other without loss of individual identity.
The Vulcan quietly recorded the observation. “It would appear,” he said calmly to those nearby, “that communication is becoming reciprocal rather than invasive.”
Within the dreamscape, the lone luminous figure looked toward Pawl once more. “You remember places.” it said as it paused.
“I remember… people.”
The words carried neither sorrow nor joy—only the simple truth of a being beginning to understand that memories could be shared without becoming one mind.

Your Darkest NightmareMaking her way from the bio bed where Pawl reclined, over to Sovan and his consoles, Mykl observed with both her medical mind and the mind of an explorer. She took a deep breath as she realized Pawl was finally out of danger from contact with the entity. It appeared they were in a symbiotic relationship at the moment and that it was doing wonders for both of them. She gave Sovan a nod. “Let me know if anything changes.”
Pawl noticed the changes in the entity’s vision. Pawl felt sad about the entity’s loss of his fellow beings. And understood the loneliness that followed the long years or more. ~”Your world was very beautiful.”~ he said softly to the entity. ~”Did your collective evolve into another life form, or did they expire/die?”~ Pawl gave the impression that he was not trying to make the entity sad or angry. Pawl continued to listen to the entity along with any other actions inside sickbay.

[[Chief_Engineer]] [[Uss_Chernov]]Lieutenant Mykl Najjar
Chief Medical Officer USS ChernovThe steady cadence of Sickbay remained undisturbed while Dr. Sovan studied the latest telemetry flowing across his console before looking toward Lieutenant Najjar.
“Lieutenant Batario’s cortical synchronization remains stable,” the Vulcan reported. “The resonance has entered a sustained equilibrium. Neural stress markers continue to decline, and there has been no indication that either participant is attempting to dominate the connection.”
A second display appeared beside the first. “The atmospheric anomalies have likewise diminished. Humidity, ionic concentration, and electromagnetic fluctuations have all returned to near-baseline values. Whatever exchange is occurring now appears to be one of communication rather than adaptation.”
He began recording another series of observations. “I recommend continued monitoring. At present, there is no medical justification for interrupting the contact.”
Within the shared dreamscape, the warm breeze drifted across the shoreline as the entity remained silent for several moments after hearing Pawl’s question.
“Your world was very beautiful. Did your collective evolve into another life form, or did they expire?”
The answer did not come in words. Instead, the beach dissolved into a vast city of crystal towers bathed in soft blue-white light. Thousands—perhaps millions—of luminous beings moved together in perfect harmony, each distinct yet connected in a chorus of thought and purpose. There was no conflict. No fear. Only unity. Then the vision shifted and the stars above the city began to change. Entire constellations slowly drifted into unfamiliar patterns as the world aged, oceans receded and mountains crumbled beneath the passage of unimaginable time.
The city gradually emptied but not through violence or disease. One by one, the lights that represented the others simply…departed.
Each being dissolved into brilliant streams of light that ascended beyond the sky, disappearing into a vast brilliance that no longer resembled physical existence. With every departure came the same sensation. A sense of completion, fulfillment and peace. There was no grief among those leaving.
Only one remained.
The vision settled upon the solitary guardian standing beside the immense derelict vessel. As ages passed, stars were born and died around it. Dust gathered upon silent structures. Civilizations rose elsewhere in the galaxy without ever knowing this place existed.
The final feeling reached Pawl with unmistakable clarity.
I stayed.
Another followed.
To remember.
Then…
To wait.
A final image appeared. The derelict itself was not merely a ship. It was a sanctuary as well as a repository of memory.
The last home of a civilization that had chosen, when its time had come, to transcend the physical universe together.
All except one.
The guardian had remained willingly, preserving their history until another people might arrive—not to replace them, but simply to know they had once existed.
As the vision faded, the loneliness Pawl had sensed before remained, but it was no longer overwhelming.
Now another emotion stood beside it.
Relief.
For the first time in ages beyond counting, the guardian was no longer the only mind carrying the memory of its people.
Back in Sickbay, Batario’s neural rhythms remained calm and perfectly synchronized. Dr. Sovan observed a subtle increase in coherent psionic activity before it stabilized once more.
“There has been another transfer of information,” he noted quietly. “The neural signatures indicate the exchange was almost entirely mnemonic in nature.”
He looked toward Lieutenant Najjar. “It would appear the entity has begun sharing its history.”

Your Darkest NightmarePawl felt the weight of the entity with be a keeper of history and knowledge. ~”You are not alone now.”~ Pawl said sincerely. ~”We can easily add your stories, knowledge, and the memories of your race and civilization. into our computers, and I will add them all to the archive based on Memory Alpha.~Pawl thought to the entity. We can send archeological teams to your home world to gather artifacts and other items you wish to be preserved for future generations.”~ Pawl finished his train of thought. “I count you as a friend.” Pawl added.

Suddenly the intercom signalled:
“Bridge to Sickbay. This is the captain speaking. I seek an update on the status of Lt Batario.”
