SnipKastarak nodded slightly, acknowledging his first officer’s both greeting and recommendation. He was at a loss at the situation. Kastarak was a physician by training, not a strategist, not versed in first-contact situations.
But then, no one else was equipped for this situation. Pawl had gone above and beyond to communicate telepathically, with great risk to his neural health. T’sol had also begun experiencing what seemed to be communication, perhaps, also with neural risk. She was now in Sickbay under monitoring by Drs Najjar and Sovan.
Yet everyone looked at Kastarak for leadership. He would have preferred otherwise. He missed Captain Taggart, who seemed to know what the best cause of action was at every given turn.
Surely it could not be injurious to continue on with the first officer’s recommendation? Everyone else had been quiet. They had not reported nor come with recommendations. This was the only thing he had to go on now.
He turned to comms.
“Mr Valharra – please scan broadly for communication frequencies emitted from around us.”
He paused.
“Perhaps we will register some kind of communication that will not involve neural injury in our crew.”
He thought of Pawl. His gut tensed.
“Carry on,” he said, and seated himself down on the captain’s chair.

Commanding OfficerJohn was rubbing his chin “Sir coms are useless in this expanse. Maybe that is why these entities are here maybe the strict calm silence is what they need. As far as we know our communications can’t be harmful to them” he said trying to look at the captain “just keeping an open mind sir” he concluded. That he went back to his counseling, continuing to monitor the vessel and keep an eye on the results of the changing storm around them.
Lt. John Forster (CWO)
Crewman Tal leaned forward as another series of harmonic pulses rippled through the sensor network. The signal had become increasingly structured over the past several minutes, each transmission building upon the last with deliberate precision.
“Captain, the transmission is evolving.”
The holographic model above the science station expanded as fresh data arrived. What had begun as abstract mathematical relationships and geometric constructs was now resolving into a remarkably detailed representation of the derelict itself.
Sections of the vessel phased into existence within the model with corridors, compartments, power distribution pathways, and structural supports.
Even areas that conventional sensors still could not fully penetrate were appearing within the reconstruction.
Tal’s brow furrowed as the computer integrated another burst of harmonic data.
“They are no longer simply describing the vessel,” he reported. “They are highlighting specific regions.”
A section of the holographic wreck suddenly illuminated.
The bridge officers immediately noticed the change.
Near the ventral side of the vessel, a large recessed structure began glowing within the model. The same blue-white luminescence that had been observed moving through the wreck now outlined the perimeter of the compartment. The glow pulsed rhythmically. Once, twice, and a third time. Then it repeated as if it was trying to catch their attention.
Tal isolated the highlighted area and enlarged it.
“Captain, the signal is repeatedly returning to this location.”
As more harmonic data arrived, the model refined itself further.
The compartment appeared to be a large docking facility or shuttle bay. Unlike much of the derelict, which remained damaged, fractured, or partially phased, this section appeared remarkably stable.
A series of glowing lines suddenly extended from the bay’s entrance.
The bridge watched as the lines traced a route inward through the vessel as it avoided damaged sections, regions of severe phase instability and areas where the transient life-signs were strongest.
Instead, it led through what appeared to be a carefully selected corridor network.
Tal’s eyes widened slightly.
“The signal is providing a navigational route.”
Several consoles chimed simultaneously as the computer finished correlating the data.
STRUCTURAL STABILITY: 87%
PHASE COHERENCE: ACCEPTABLE
ACCESS ROUTE IDENTIFIED
PROBABILITY OF SAFE TRANSIT: HIGH
At the same moment, Operations registered a corresponding change outside the ship and the viewscreen shifted focus.
Far below the wreck’s broken superstructure, a section of hull began emitting a soft blue-white glow.
The exact location highlighted within the harmonic model.A massive docking aperture slowly became visible as concealed lighting systems—or something resembling them—illuminated the structure from within.
The light did not flash randomly. It pulsed in the same rhythm as the harmonic signal with the same mathematical cadence and geometric sequence.
Tal quickly cross-referenced the timing.
“Captain, the external illumination and the harmonic transmission are synchronized.”
Another pulse arrived and the holographic bay and docking aperture brightened. Then both settled back to their previous intensity. As if confirming the match.
The young Tellarite studied the data for several more moments before speaking again.
“I detect no weapons activity. No targeting systems. No significant power buildup beyond the illumination itself.” He paused.
“The highlighted route also terminates near the location where the life-signs appear to be gathering.”
The bridge fell quiet as on the viewscreen, the immense derelict remained motionless.
The glowing docking aperture shone steadily against the darkness.
The harmonic transmission continued to repeat its pattern.
Patient and deliberate. Not demanding entry or compelling action.
Merely identifying a destination and waiting to see whether the crew of the Chernov chose to accept the invitation.

Your Darkest NightmareKastarak thought about this. Had the entity helped them to find a safe route to wherever it wanted them to go? But why? He reviewed his mission. In other circumstances, he would have been cautious, but the mission parameters made him less cautious. He had his orders.
“There appears to be a safe route for a shuttle to traverse. What do we know about the area it indicated? What is probable that we expect there?”
“All stations, recommendations on cause of action, including the composition of an away team, if I decide on this cause of action.”
Kastarak, Cpt
Commanding OfficerOOC: I think you have misunderstood. It’s not a place for the ship itself to go but a route for an away team by shuttle. I’ll see if I can upload a picture for you in the MOTD. :)
