John turned in his chair “ sir I have a crazy idea. Did he know that on old earth they used buoys keep an eye on the currents of the ocean. If we start dropping bowbies ever so often we can triangulate a safe path with data once we tell them what to look for, and we can have a path triangulated for us. We can also tell the other ships here within the area studying this region we can tell the other vessels what to have Bowie’s look for. The more data we have the more we can map this area”

Kastarak listened carefully. It was an unorthodox idea, but it might just work. It was better than any other plans they had at this moment. Though the question came from the weapons officer, and not science or engineering. Kastarak needed to get the idea cleared with the relevant departments, as this would be within their areas of expertise.

“Thank you, Mr Forster. Mr Grey, coordinate with Mr Batario to give answer as to the feasibility of Mr Forster’s idea. I am curious what the simulations would tell.”

Again, Kastarak was cautious. Command was still new to him, and still not something that came instictive to him. Logic was what he had, and logic dictated caution above all at this point, though the mission was not in line with that ideology.

William started a simulation to see if any probe would be capable of remaining stationary within the ‘stream’ and, if so, what modifications would be necessary. He was sure that with enough time and resources, more permanent buoys would be possible, but without knowing the long term effects of trying to remain stationary.

The simulation showed that a powered bouy would be able to stay in the channels where set.

John was keeping an eye on the shield and structural integrity fields ready to adjust the power lvls when he needs to “ just giving possible ideas. Sorry if I was stepping on anyone’s toes”

Pawl finished off his duties in engineering as he made his way to the bridge to finish off his shift of engineering duties on the bridge. He signed off his terminal and moved calmly towards the lift. He tapped the call button as he waited for the lift to arrive. He looked over the padd he had with him. To check on the others doing their jobs, as he watched the items being signed off on and checked over by the assistant chief engineer. checked off there asignments. confirming they were done and checked over their work. Pawl smiled softly as he placed his padd in stand-by mode as the lift arrived and the doors opened to an empty car. As he stepped in, “bridge please.” The doors closed moments later as the lift took off to the new destination. Pawl stood quietly as the lift stopped several times to pick up odd crew members and drop them off before he got to the bridge. A moment later, the lift finally arrived at the bridge level. As he exited, he looked more tired than he attended tobe as he relived the engineering crew man that was handling the station while he was in engineering. “Go take a break, ensign.” Pawl said softly. The ensign stood and left the bridge acknoledged the order. quietly. Pawl took a seat a bit harder in the chair than intended. A soft sigh left his lips, feeling the tension leave him.

“That was a big sigh, Leftenant,” remarked a plummy, British voice from navigation position, as William spun around in his seat toward the Chief Engineer, a slight smile on his face.

Pawl calmly looked towards the Navigation station. “I guess it was? This was the first chance to sit in a good while.” Pawl said, looking tired. “I did not mean to cause any alarm.” Pawl said sincerely to all of them.

“Pawl!” Kastarak was surprised to see Batario here. “Mr Batario,” he corrected himself. “What brings you to Bridge?”

“Sir?” Pawl said with mild suprise. “With everything going well in engineering, I figured I would finish my shift here, sir!” Pawl was showing signs of being tired. “I can go back to engineering, sir? If you wish me to?” As he stopped what he was doing and focused on Captain Kastarak.

Kastarak noticed Batario’s apprehension, which was never Kastarak’s intention to cause. Of course, they had history. And this history kept interfering and infecting every piece of interaction between them. It was not conducive. Yet, he could not bring himself to regret it. Though a voice of logic within him wished he did regret it.

“Carry on, Mr Batario,” he said in his voice, neutral as ever. “If you have deemed yourself more useful up here, I trust your assessment. Please take your station.”

John was monitoring the power flow and he thinks that the fluctuations are coming in quicker than usual. He checks the navigational system to see if the vessel is getting closer to anything.

OOC: I do believe that the Buoys system was a stroke of genius. Because we were able to find tone our sensors to the waves for us to detect a somewhat path through them.

After the interaction with Pawl, Kastarak asked out loud to the Bridge:

“Are they buoys ready for deployment?”

After a minute to digest the information, he turned back to his monitors. “Thank you, sir!” Pawl said with a stifled yawn. As he continued on with repairs and fine-tuning the sensor, along with other systems, from where he sat.

Unsatisfied with the lack of answer to his question, he continued, “Deploy the buoys whenever ready.”

He decided to go to the ready room. “Mr Forster, you have the conn.” He said loudly, rising from his seat, and continuing in a quieter volume to his chief weapons officer officer, “I need to tend to logs and other sendings before we try sailing.”

Subspace phase readings fluctuated sharply between units, revealing layered bands of instability rather than a single uniform disturbance. One cluster of buoys reported comparatively low gravimetric shear and stable tachyon flow—anomalously calm against the surrounding noise. Chroniton traces spiked briefly along the edges of that region before dropping off, suggesting a boundary effect rather than active temporal displacement.

ENGINEERING
EPS and structural stress monitors updated in real time as Engineering cross-referenced the buoy data with ship tolerances. Several projected routes immediately flagged as unsafe, their harmonic profiles exceeding acceptable limits. One narrow corridor, however, remained within threshold—barely. Maintaining it would require precise power balancing and rapid adjustments to inertial damping if conditions shifted.

OPERATIONS
Ops consoles rapidly compiled the incoming data, triangulating buoy positions and loss rates. Two buoys at the outer edge of the formation abruptly dropped offline, their last readings marked by intense exotic particle spikes. Ops flagged those coordinates as exclusion zones and pushed updated navigation data to Helm, highlighting a provisional “green lane” forward—short, narrow, and time-sensitive.

SECURITY
Security sensors reported no evidence of artificial emissions or hostile activity, but the pattern of buoy failures triggered automated threat alerts. The region behaved aggressively but impersonally, reacting to presence rather than intent. Security protocols were adjusted accordingly, with alerts set to environmental hazards rather than tactical threats.

As the final data set resolved, the chaos ahead no longer looked random.
A path existed—unstable, temporary, and unforgiving—but real.

“Mr Archer – in the ready room, please.”

“Mr Forster – whenever ready, take the ship out.”

Kastarak then went back to the ready room.

John took the center chair “ help continue our current course through the path. Engineering, I like alternative power getting pumped into the shields structural integrity system. And how soon can we launch another wave of Bowie’s” he asked still keeping an eye on the shields structural integrity program he has running.
