The cloaking exercises had gone well. As Dawson had determined, the Chernov would be “slightly” detectable while shooting within a cloaked position. It was still better than expected. With any luck, they wouldn’t need to use their shooting capabilities within Klingon space. The cloaking tech was modern Romulan, and the Klingons, as far as the Federation understood, did not have enough tech to being able to detect it.The plan was now to leave Federation space and move towards Klingon space. For Kastarak, it would be the second time he’d go into Klingon space with the Chernov. He did not look forward to it, but his mission was his mission, and he was a man true to his word. The briefing today took place just after the Constitution had left them, taking Lovejoy too. As such, Lovejoy would not be on this mission.
Kastarak made the final touches to the presentation that he would hold. It was a few minutes before the scheduled briefing time. He glanced quickly at the time. All was ready. Pots of tea and coffee and caraffes of water were on the table along with glasses and cups and saucers.
He straightened his uniform, stood up, and waited for his colleagues to come.
Kastarak, Lt Cdr
First Officer and Navigations OfficerPawl got the news that Miss Lovejoy would not be around to help on this mission, and he was a bit upset by this. But he kept calm and quiet as he did his rounds in engineering checking the computers and the bit of a skeleton crew there working calmly and casually. “Ladies and Gents I am off to a meeting. Since most systems are
now on automatic you are free to relax and play cards or just check the odd systems that are not automatic from time to time. Please.” Pawl asked sincerely and politely as he turned and left the main engineering area and headed towards the briefing room.A short time later Pawl arrived at the briefing room as the door part as he entered. “Hello there Need any help with anything before I take my seat?” PAwl offered as He poured a cup of hot tea as he added a sugar cube or two to his drink and used a spoon to stir it in as it tickled against the cup as he stirred. along with a glass of iced water just in case he needed it. and placed it by his chair. As he grabbed a pastry and donut from the adjacent tray and placed them on a small glass plate with the federation shield that was on the plate face and moved back to his seat and waited calmly just in case.

[[Chief_Engineer]] [[Uss_Chernov]]Symar entered a few minutes behind the Chief Engineer, ‘Commander, Pawl.’
-Lieutenant Symar: Chief Medical Officer-
“Doctor?” pawl said politely.
[[Lt_Jg ]] [[Pawl Batario]]
[[Chief_Engineer]] [[Uss_Chernov]]Chris came strolling in looking like he had the bearing of John Wayne. Cool, purposefully and smooth. He was confident and more so than he’s been in awhile. Making his way to the coffee first as usual and poured himself some. Smiling that if any terrorist wanted to catch him, all they’d have to do is put a fresh cup of coffee under a box being held up by a stick and yank it. Once he has his coffee he looked around. “Greetings everyone. Thank you Commander for the coffee and tea. As always you take great care of us. I’ll brief us later after everyone has arrived and after Commander Kastarak, Mr Dawson and Mr Batario speak. Meanwhile unless you have a question not about the mission, you may ask me anything.”. He did not take his seat but stood and enjoyed his coffee. Realizing this he motioned for everyone to take a seat again if the wanted. “Sorry. I’m not sitting down just yet, but you all may. I’ll be getting another cup of joe real soon and I might day Commander Kastarak. You are brewing coffee better and better each time I taste it. Well done.”. As he took another sip.
Captain Chris_Taggart
Captain USS_ChernovPawl noticed the arrival of the captain. All he could do is smile He never felt the Captain like this but it was a good feeling. “Good morning sir!”He said kindly to him and the others.
[[Lt_Jg ]] [[Pawl Batario]]
[[Chief_Engineer]] [[Uss_Chernov]]William followed in after the Captain, nose-deep in a PaDD report, he only had a handful of officers left on the ship in his department, enough to run the ship but the fewest of any of the department heads meaning he spent most of his time reviewing what his team had been up to until this point. He quietly took a seat.
CSO, 2O
Dawson came in just after will, also looking over PaDD reports. He had been going over simulations and strategies based on the data collected from the Constitution and Valharra’s shuttle. He’d begun putting drills together to train the Weapons crew so that the tactics would be not only second nature to them, but for himself. And Today was the day. They were heading out into Klingon space to potentially lock arms with some unknown alien entity. And perhaps, finally give him the answers he had been seeking almost his entire life.
He looked up from his PaDD and saw everyone already taking their seats. He slid into his own and smiled to everyone, “Morning everyone. Are we ready to start?”
Lt. Q Dawson, CWO
“Morning Mr Dawson” replying to the officer’s entrance. He was glad all were in a good mood it felt nice. Pawl was going to ask about Miss Lovejoy but decided to hold that thought for now. as he took a sip of his tea.
[[Lt_Jg ]] [[Pawl Batario]]
[[Chief_Engineer]] [[Uss_Chernov]]After Kastarak greeted all the arriving the officers, he signalled to the captain to sit, allowing all the others to sit too.
Kastarak then began.
“Good morning, colleagues. We will finally set out on our excursion and biding incursion into Klingon space once again. This time, we will stay cloaked as much as possible.”
Kastarak flicked the monitor. Similar images and maps as the first briefing five months ago when Kastarak had just been appointed first officer were shown. The last recorded place of the Husqvarna, as well as the pictures of that suspected cube of especial importance to the Federation… This was a highly important mission.
“With the untimely departure of Sara Lovejoy due to a medical leave absence, our crew is now at 139 people. It is not ideal. In the past weeks, we have adapted efficiently under these circumstances. I trust we will continue to do so. After this meeting, all of you shall speak to your subordinate officers and crew to inform them of the mission and all the important aspects of it. Remember the need to know principle. This is a matter of Federation security of the highest order. We have been especially authorised and ordered to go on this mission.”
“Our intelligence shows that at slower warp, we will be less detectable to potential scanners, as the subspace ripples from our warp will be much smaller that way. As such, as we cruise through Klingon space, we will not go as fast as we should like, but we will be able to accurately map Klingon space in a better way than we did ourselves. We have been restocked so we have enough supplies for the mission, even if it needs to be extended in time. That said, the mission remains dangerous. There is also the risk of exhaustion among our crew, as we are on a skeleton crew. Keeping our crew content and healthy – both physically and mentally – is important. Consider what resources you need during this time.”
Kastarak turned to the captain. “Sir – would you like to continue?”
Kastarak, Lt Cdr
First Officer and Navigations OfficerDawson pursed his lips at the mention of Lovejoy. He had hoped his conversation with her would have helped her find the motivation to work through her funk and carry on the mission. But it seemed it hadn’t, and now they were short. He pushed the feelings aside and focused on Kastarak’s briefing. He didn’t like the idea of moving so slowly through Klingon space, not wanting the anticipation to build up further than it already was, but he saw the utility of it and would manage. Some extra practice time at the gym would help relieve that excess energy. His hand fiddled absently with the KaBar blade he kept at his hip.
Lt. Q Dawson, CWO
“Very good Commander.” Chris said as he put down his coffee and stood up. “There is also one more very important quest we have to do. It was basically shoved on us in order to persuade the higher up to do this. But it is secondary to finding out what happened to the lost Starfleet crew.”
“There is supposedly new Intel to suggest that the Klingons are building a newer warship. One that is not only bigger and holds more firepower, but one that is also more agile and faster. We are to locate the docks, photograph them in every way possible but not destroy them. But if we can, maybe. But we will also try to get measurements and Intel if possible. Now I’ll turn over this briefing to Mr. Dawson. Hell give you all the details on the missing crew and the supposed history behind it. Mr. Dawson”. Chris said as he took his seat again and started sipping on his coffee.
Captain Chris_Taggart
Captain USS_ChernovWilliam raised an eyebrow at the Captain’s use of the word quest then again at his antiquated use of photographed’ for their secondary mission. Chris always did have a fascination with the old world.
CSO, 2O
Dawson took a moment to process the information Chris had given them and then stood to walk to the monitor. “Here is what we have on the Husqvarna. The ship was dispatched to investigate surveillance intel of a new kind of ship seen in Klingon space, the same type of cube ship that we were investigating on Equestria. The Husqvarna did not have the cloaking technology we have, and so had to take a longer, more roundabout route to their destination in order to avoid detection. Based on the reports, it seems that they managed to do so and made it to their objective coordinates, here.” At this Dawson indicated an area on the star charts. “Here is also where Starfleet lost contact with the Husqvarna and had first assumed her discovered and readied a prepared cover story about the Captain going rogue. The strange part was that the story was never needed, as the Klingon Empire never came forward with the Husqvarna’s discovery. After almost two decades and nothing from the Klingons or the Husqvarna crew, Starfleet had concluded that the ship was lost through some kind of natural destruction. That is, until our discovery of the Cube images and the story from Equestria. Starfleet now thinks that the Cube may have been involved with the Husqvarna’s disappearance and wants to know more.”
Dawson then switched towards his tactical briefing. “With the data on our cloaking capabilities, we are a step ahead of the Klingons in that we have the ability to fire when cloaked. While this will give away our immediate position, it allows us all the time in the world in order to make those attacks count. We can effectively disable any ship we come across before they even have a chance to raise shields. And by hitting them quickly and getting out fast, we should be able to regain that stealth rather easily. The goal would be to traverse Klingon space utterly undetected and avoid any combat at all, but I feel it’s good to have these strategies and tactics in place just in case we have to fight. Another advantage for us is that the Klingons have no idea that a Federation ship is capable of cloaking, and so they wouldn’t be suspecting it. We should be far enough from Romulan space that Klingons wouldn’t be looking for Romulan warships. This would allow us to get as close as we want to any target in order for surveillance.”
This allowed Dawson to then pivot towards the new aspect of the mission. “We should easily be able to gather any intelligence we want on this new Klingon ship. Might even give us the advantage we need to destroy it, and the facility, if necessary. Any questions?”
Lt. Q Dawson. CWO
Kastarak was impressed with Dawson’s presentation. It covered all questions that Kastarak had. But for the sake of the others in the room, Kastarak decided to ask a question, “What can you tell us about the Husqvarna?”
‘With the dwindling crew numbers,’ Symar began, ‘Do you think it would be beneficial to hold triage training for those outside of the medical department?’
-Lieutenant Symar: Chief Medical Officer-
“That sounds prudent, Dr Symar,” Kastarak said.
Kastarak, Lt Cdr
First Officer and Navigations OfficerDawson nodded at Kastarak’s question and pressed a few keys on the PaDD until the Husqvarna was on screen. “The Husqvarna was a Constellation class starship, Run by a bare minimum crew of just forty hands. It has four warp nacelles and two impulse reactors. The Husqvarna was chosen for this mission due to its small size, efficient speed, and ability to be manned by such a scant crew. This, of course, will also make it difficult to find, especially after being lost in space for over two decades.”
((OOC: Currently basing the Husqvarna after the Hathaway build as that ship is said to have been commissioned in 2285, which is closer to our time than the Stargazer commissioned in 2355. Just in case anyone wants to look up pictures or specific specs.))
Lt. Q Dawson, CWO
“Excuse me sir with the departure of the engineering officer Ms. Lovejoy. How is that going to affect engineering and other ship’s duties?” Pawl asked pondering as he fell silent. knowing it was a valid concern. “I know engineering is mostly on automatic and the few odd systems are managed by volunteers who are part of the engineering staff. Plus I was doing some helmsmen work too now?” as he looked between the captain and first officer and the others.
[[Lt_Jg ]] [[Pawl Batario]]
[[Chief_Engineer]] [[Uss_Chernov]]“I’d be more than happy to coordinate with you on teaching some of the medical staff basic Engineering skills?” Symar put in.
-Lieutenant Symar: Chief Medical Officer-
“of course doctor no problems with teaching you all a bit about emergency repairs and procedures. As I will Learn more in my first aid and other medical techniques.”Pawl said calmly. With little emotion in his voice.
[[Lt_Jg ]] [[Pawl Batario]]
[[Chief_Engineer]] [[Uss_Chernov]]
“Department synergy will definitely be a help going forward,” Symar said to the room.
-Lieutenant Symar: Chief Medical Officer-
