In Sickbay, Kastarak was beamed down to the emergency biobed. He was alive but unresponsive on most accounts.

Nurse Sutalo was manning Sickbay, and immediately hailed for Dr Symar to attend. In Sutalo’s view, no one better on the ship would understand Vulcan physiology, especially head trauma, than the ship’s other Vulcan doctor.

While waiting for Symar, Sutalo performed the basic scans on the limp Kastarak. He also managed to stop Kastarak’s bleeding, though he had already lost a lot of blood. In fact, Kastarak lay in a green pool of his own copper-based blood.

Sutalo hoped this wasn’t the end…

Symar bolted through the Sickbay doors, equipment already in hand, ‘Report!’ He ordered Sutalo.

-Lieutenant Symar: Chief Medical Officer-

Chernov was running on a minimal crew. Only Symar was the attending physician. It was reasoned thus that even if Symar was incapacitated, there were two more able physicians on board, Kastarak and Taggart. Symar’s duty was heavy. Moreover, only two nurses were on board, head nurse Sutalo and nurse Zhang Jingjing. Nurse Zhang was a civilian nurse, and, thus, had certain freedoms other officers in Sickbay wouldn’t normally have. She didn’t have to respect the hierarchy as much as others, but at the same time, she was on the lowest rung.

Nurse Zhang ran into Sickbay, just a few seconds after Symar entered. Sutalo looked at his two colleagues coming in.

“Doctor Symar, Miss Zhang, patient is Kastarak, Vulcan male, aged 28, admitted in emergency due to head injury along the parietal ridge. Traumatic brain injury suspected, internal bleeding suspected. Scans show intra-axial lesions. Patient is unresponsive. Stable pulse, blood pressure is going down. Blood oxygen saturation is dangerously low. Your orders, Doctor?”

Before Symar could answer, the Sickbay doors opened up, and in came three new patients. An Andorian female with an injured antenna, supporting a human male who appeared to have a fracture in his left femur. There was also a human female with laboured breathing.

Zhang looked at Symar.

“Stabalise blood pressure and oxygen levels first, I will start working on dermal regeneration of the head injury once we know the XO isn’t going to flatline on us while we calm him down.”

-Lieutenant Symar: Chief Medical Officer-

“I’m on it,” said Nurses Sutalo, and headed back to Kastarak’s bed, and began his work. Kastarak wasn’t responding to Sutalo’s interventions, but at the very least he didn’t appear to get worse.

“Sir, should I check on the other patients, or do you need me attending to Dr Kastarak?” Nurse Zhang asked.

“Do what you can to assist the other patients Nurse Jingling,” Symar replied, trying to remain level headed, “If you need any assistance, I will be assisting Nurse Sutalo with getting our XO back on his feet.”

-Lieutenant Symar: Chief Medical Officer-

“Yes, sir,” Zhang replied, and headed out to check on the other patients.

Meanwhile, Sutalo was still struggling with Kastarak.

“I think he’s stabilized now, doctor, but he’s still unresponsive. But things are not getting worse. I’ve stopped the bleeding, cleaned him up a bit, and trying to do a neuro scan. But brain activity is really low.”

“I’m really worried, doctor,” Sutalo said, with exhaustion in his eyes.

He darted down the corridor heading to main medical are. A tap was heard as he almost hit the opening doors of medical. then stoped before finally entering the office. “Whats up doc.” he siad calmly as he could not trying to force to look at the biobeds.

Nurse Zhang saw how Batario went in, but didn’t have time to acknowledge him. She made a quick look at Pawl and saw that he seemed fine. He seemed to be heading to Kastarak’s bed.

Ensign Nurse Sutalo saw Pawl coming too, and understanding a bit more (though not much) about Pawl and Kastarak’s relationship, he said, “Mr Batario – you’re here to see Kastarak? He’s in bed number 3. Follow me. I’m seeing to him.”

Sutalo led the way.

William followed in just after Pawl and looked like a right mess. Most of his upper lip was covered in dried blood and he had stuffed his nose with cloth clearly torn off his uniform. His right hand was also covered in blood but had clearly been wiped on the front of his pants. He looked at the doctors treating Kastarak then at Pawl and raised an eyebrow at the Chief Engineer clearly curious why he was there but didn’t ask. Instead, he sat down in an available bed and winced hand going to his side but beyond that he gave no outward reaction.

When Grey entered, Nurse Zhang’s eyes widened. Grey looked in dire need of attention. She hurried to him, her tricorder in hand,

“Mr Grey, I’m scanning you for injuries, and to determine the level of injury. What can you tell me about your injuries, and your pain?”

William nodded at the nurse “Broken nose, I reset it on the bridge but likely poorly. I was in a turbolift when we were hit and my face hit the door, I must have been thrown harder than I thought, when the adrenalin started wearing off I started feeling a pain in my side” He indicated his right mid-torso “I can’t raise my arm that much and breathing is difficult” He spoke in his usual calm emotionless way but his voice was clearly strained.

The sensor showed that although his nose had been reset it would need better alignment to avoid setting incorrectly, there were also burst blood vessels that needed repair. He had several bruises on his right arm and side that were not that serious. He did have two bruised ribs and one was slightly fractured and his side was starting to swell from bruising.

CSO, 2O

Nurse Zhang looked at the scanner, and noted that nothing was an actual emergency. She would have liked to start with repairing the fractures and blood vessles and aligning the nose, but, as things were, a medical doctor would, under normal circumstances, make an appropriate diagnosis and prescribe the treatment. In this situation, she was unsure what to do.

“Doctor!” she shouted. In an effort not to scare Grey, she told him, “Don’t worry. You’re in no danger. Just some bruises. Your nose is misaligned, we’ll fix that. You have a fractured rib too. No vital organs seem to have been injured. You should be fine. Want something for the pain? I can give you a shot.”

Pawl slowly moved closer to the biobed but did his best to stay out of the way of the staff that were working on him. He almost turned and left sickbay but something told him not to. Pawl was not sure on what to do he did not want to both the doctor at this critical juncture of the medical treatment as he moved off towards the waiting room and took a seat as he thought to Kasarak. He did not know if he could hear him or not. ~Kastarak I am here in sickbay with you.~ Pawl did not probe his mind at this point.
All he did was attempt to talk to him. to reassure him all was going to be ok.

In some way, deep in Kastarak, he noticed Batario’s presence. Perhaps it was the telepathic link between them, maybe in some way, Pawl had reached Kastarak’s katra, which was deep down there.

The biobed screen showed some increased neural activity in Kastarak’s brain.

Pawl calmly thought to Kasarak that he did not know if it was helping or not If anything He would know he was there. ~Kastarak hear me I know you and are not one no longer but I do still care for you.~ He thought with a small tear forming in his eyes. He sat there quietly eyes closed He could feel the others in medical doing their things. He also sent present thoughts of a nice spring day with with fluffy clouds of his homeworld of betazed near Lake Batario. with flowers in bloom and a nice spring breeze blowing in the cattails swaying along the water banks along with lily pads bobbing along the shoreline of the lake.

In Kastarak’s mind, he was now by Lake Batario. He could feel the spring breeze on his cheek, the crisp humidity in the air – so unlike his native Vulcan. He wanted to reciprocate and take Batario to the Voroth Sea. An aunt had a cabin just by the cliffs, it had been in the family in generations. He’d introduce Pawl to her – out of all his relatives, she would under why Pawl was the one for him best. She had a human streak – or so her brother – Kastarak’s father – would say.

His mind kept oscillating between being by Lake Batario and the Voroth Sea. But wherever he was, Pawl was too. They had two homes – one on Vulcan, one on Betazed. In another image in his head, Kastarak was now only a boy – but so was Pawl, and they were playing on the streets of Betazed – how non-Vulcan, but Kastarak felt free. In the next moment, they were in a Vulcan school, exchanging secret looks while facing stern examinations.

One child would mock Pawl for being Betazoid, but the young boy Kastarak would defend Pawl…

Oh Pawl… he thought.

Kastarak’s dream was disturbed by the smell of blood and the loud sounds of people moving around in a stressed and anxious frenzy.

He opened his eyes and saw Pawl’s mild face.

He moved his jaw and tongue in an attempt to speak, but ended up coughing up some old blood. He took his finger and touched Pawl’s instead, as a way to communicate.

Chris came in followed by a bunch of doctors and nurses plus equipment from the USS Constitution. Chris looked around and saw Pawl and walked up softly to him. He hated to ruin the moment but he had to tell Pawl something. He saw a nurse and grabbed her arm. “Miss. Please tell Pawl over there once he’s done that in one hour from now a team of Engineers and equipment will arrive from the USS Constitution. But only when he’s done. Thank you.”

Nurse Zhang was relieved to get back up. She acknowledged the captain’s instructions with a soft “yes, sir”, and hurried to her next tasks.

Looking around for an empty biobed Chris found one and placed his arm down on it and laid down closing his eye. Years can’t running down his eye once he was able to let go. It want from the pain he was in, which was considerable, it was from almost being down by a bigot and that Starfleet has allowed him to flourish.

Captain Chris Taggart CO

“Captain?” It was Nurse Sutalo, about to assess the new patient, not seeing until now it was the captain himself. He saw the tears in the captain, nodded empathetically, and began scanning. “I’m just scanning you now, to assess the damages. We’re still on triage. I am sure you understand. Symar or one of the Constitution doctors will see to you once we know the extent of it all. How are you feeling?”

((Occ:PAwl is in the waiting room so he cant be touched? But he will feel your presence and come to as he felt more of kasaraks mind as he comes to))

Pawl felt the presence of Kasarak coming to as he also heard the cough from that direction. He calmly stood up and moved carefully over to him but kept out of the way of the others who were still working on all of the patients in sickbay. He kept quiet for the moment but was glad to see him awake and moving. He held his emotions in check but a single tear fell down his cheek in gratitude for the work of the medical teams that have provided all of them. He softly said “thank you” to all of them. as he fell quiet again as he stood there near the corner of the bay next to the bulkhead.
