Sam patted the arm of young Eloise Assa, an operations ensign newly assigned to the ship a few months ago. “You’re very brave, just so you know,” he said, his arm linked through hers. She shook her head but said nothing, her silence as much resignation as disagreement.
But the lounge host knew that once she was in the right hands, that things could get better for her. That was the part of his job that he hadn’t quite factored in when he first started: the ability for people to talk to a willing ear who was not in uniform or in their chain of command. Thus Sam had learned all sort of things about people that he never expected to, including things that concerned him. At first, he was just thinking that Eloise was having a rough transition, but today it became apparent that something that happened and she was struggling. So after a little bit of chatting he convinced her to go talk to the counselling staff. Except that she hadn’t wanted to go, so he suggested that he could go along with her if it would make it easier. She had said yes.
So here they were, stepping off the turbolift when the ship shook hard and a loud explosion could be heard as if it was close by. Eloise screamed as the two were knocked off their feet. If there was anywhere safer on a medical ship other than the two medical centres, it was going to be a psychiatry wing full of people of whom many were also MDs. But it was near the other end and they were mid-deck. He pushed himself to his knees, feeling an ache throughout the front of his body, and crawled over to Eloise who was curled up on the deck in a ball, shaking. “Hey, Eloise, it’s going to be okay.” She just whimpered. “GALEN, please summon someone from Psychiatry to Deck 7, Section 18.”
“Calling Psychiatry.”
In the office portion of the Psychiatry wing, the explosion had been felt as well, but was well away from the damage. =/\=Attention Psychiatry. Emergency response required, Deck 7, Section 18.=/\=

Mariah had been quietly charting her notes during the time she relished between sessions when she heard the not too far loud noise she couldn’t exactly place. The rumble under her feet was unmistakable, however, and it was enough for her to jump out of her chair, determined to figure out just what the hell was going on.
Before she reached her office door, someone from her team was already being summoned. Although many of the team, like herself, had medical training could be called upon to address more than psychiatric concerns, it didn’t bode well to be called upon to attend to an emergency on one’s own deck. Her heart accelerated another 20 beats per minute as she turned around and retrieved emergency medical kit. Stuffing a few extra items in her pockets just in case, she then remembered to acknowledge the hail with a tap of her chest. “Grayson, acknowledged.”
Taking a deep breath, she left the safety of her office began to make her way to section 18, all the while on the lookout for members of her team and others that could be in trouble, all the while praying that it wouldn’t be that bad.

Near the end of the corridor, a man was waiting, and depending on if Grayson had frequented the lounge lately, she might recognize their new bartender/host, Sam. “Hey doc, thank goodness!” he said, meeting her and leading her towards the turbolift where someone appeared to be huddled on the deck on their side, arms wrapped around their head. “It’s Eloise… Ensign Assa. We were on our way to have her talk to someone when the explosion happened and she panicked or something.”

=/\=Attention Decks 7, 8 and 9. Please be advised that non-essential power will be cut immediately to prevent further power surges. Take all precautions. That is for all of Decks 7, 8 and 9,=/\= GALEN’s voice said over the entire deck.

Mariah regretted ever since her promotion, she knew of the lounge more in theory than in practice. She didn’t know Sam all that well, but naturally she knew of him. Many people sought counsel from people in his line of work well before they ever reached out to her. In fact, that hewas bringing someone to talk to her was evidence she needed to make his acquaintance and collaborate regularly. First things first, though, she had to handle the current crisis. “I’ll see what I can do,” Mariah offered confidently, already opening her med kit. “Are you sure she didn’t strike her head or get hit by something?” Simultaneously, Grayson was already scanning Sam with her eyes to make sure he wasn’t hurt.

“No, even when the ship shook, we didn’t fall or anything.,” Sam said. He was visibly fine, and in fact was rather calm and focused. His gaze was fixed on
Emergency repair teams swarmed the area around the breach and other damage. Medical and Security were clearing the decks so they got to work diagnosing the major problems and securing bulk heads and removing debris.

Eloise was still curled tight in a ball, her hands folded over her head, gripping her hair. Sam kept a hand on her shoulder as he looked down the deck at the various crewmembers as the lighting dimmed to emergency lighting. “Do you know what happened?”
~Mischief Maker
Mariah took note of the announcement and quickly considered what it would mean. Lighting and things like replicators certainly were nonessential, but could nevertheless make tending to emotionally distraught people like Eloise more difficult. Of course, Grayson was still figuring out exactly what was wrong, but naturally, when she wanted a warm beverage and a blanket, that was a bridge too far.
Grayson shook her head. “I don’t know. I heard a loud explosion and was summoned to meet you both. Do you think you could help me get Eloise back to my office? I think we’d be safer there and at the very least, it would get her away from some of the chaos here.” Scans weren’t revealing anything useful.
“Agreed,” Sam said.
To Eloise, she offered, “Eloise, my name is Mariah. Sam and I are here to help you, but we think it may be better if you come with us back to my office. Do you think you could do that?”

The woman had nothing physically wrong but her distress was persistent. However, she gave a tiny nod even if she still stayed in her cocoon.

“It’s okay Eloise, I know it’s hard,” Sam said. “I’m going to pick you up now so we can get somewhere safer. We don’t want to be sitting in the corridor and not know what’s going on.” And with that he turned his body so she would be facing outwards and pulled her very gently, rolling her to him till she was in his arms. Then, mindful of his back, Sam pushed himself to his feet with a grunt from the lack of leverage, even though Eloise with a petite woman.
He gave a nod to Mariah and let her lead the way.

As they made the trip back to her office, Mariah was filled with mixed feelings. On the one hand, she felt an obligation to better understand what was happening and not remain in her office, but on the other, she knew she had one very distraught and women to attend to and her would be rescuer, and it would do no one any good if something happened to both of them. She had no idea if her office would continue to remain a safe place, but banking on the fact it had been safe a few moments ago, she pushed on.
As far as Grayson was concerned, they were both now in her care and she was going to do everything she could to keep them safe.
OOC: I wanted to provide the opportunity if something is supposed to happen along the way. Feel free to have them reach Mariah’s office in your next tag. I just didn’t want to presume.

OOC: It’s all good. :)

Sam carried Eloise with the nimble grace down the corridor, tracking his path by following Grayson carefully.
Thankfully, the single entrance to the controlled wing was far away from the breach and thus they were able to cross through the aseptic entrance into the reception centre and waiting area. Sam noted that the staff were all on high alert, which made sense given their particular patients. But he and Mariah went to the right into the counselling portion of the deck that also housed the COP’s office. “You’re doing great,” he said softly to Eloise, who seemed to have calmed down but was still curled up and unresponsive.
They reached Grayson’s office, which was thankfully central in this area and not towards the aft area that seemed to be the cause of the ship’s issues. As they entered her office, he gave Mariah a questioning look, uncertain where to put Eloise just now, though carrying her was not an issue.
