Following the tour from the new XO’s sister, Brad prepared to (finally) officially report for duty.

Making his way to the door of the Captain’s office, he straightened his uniform, put a smile on his face and ran one hand through his hair while the other rang the chime.

Behind him a woman in command red arrived, a stack of padds in one hand and a mug of something steaming that smelled of fruit in the other. She looked Brad up and down from foot to head and raised her eyebrows. “Doctor Walker i presume?” She smiled.

Brad didn’t jump, but he did start as he spun around, before noticing the four pips on the woman’s neck.

“Yes, Captain?” he replied. “I didn’t know you weren’t in…”

A smile tugged the corners of her mouth. “The lack of answer to the chime should have been a good hint.” She said her tone teasing and the professional manner dropping ever slightly. “Head of diagnostics but cant even workout the purpose of a doorbell honestly.” She was grinning now.

“Hey!” Brad said, adopting an affronted expression. “It just sits there, no response to diagnose from.”

He smiled back. “It’s been a while, hasn’t it?”
